Remarks
College is really close to railway station (2.2 km from Bidhannagar Junction), Low cost of fees, Good academics, Spacious, Green, Quiet environment ideal for studying. Only bad thing(according to my opinion) is the teachers are really strict. We can't bunk classes. We enter the college 10. 15 AM and leave at 4. 15PM. Sometimes this can be frustrating.
Course Curriculum Overview
To be fair I opted for a theoretical Subject and this is not an engineering college. But research is an integral part of my subject and Yes the course I am persuing here is research oriented. We get to work with preliminary research work ( usually organic synthesis, workup )since it is a post graduation college we don't have many advanced research apparatus. But we work on research oriented projects, review advanced seminars etc. We had visitors from some industrial companies and career orientation and they were really helpful.
Placement Experience
Our College is not a technical college. Students do not come here to get placed. We are taught theoretical Subjects ( Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics etc). Yes, sometimes some industrial companies do visit with job offers and teachers obviously grooms students but our main focus is learning the subject so we can apply them later in research or other career.
College Events
We have a annual festival. Usually all of the college students attend it. And we celebrate all the cultural events. We held Science Congress (Northern Region) 2018, Environmental Awareness Seminar with Pollution Control Board of West Bengal, We celebrate Annual Sports Day and so many other festivals.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since this is a government college, fee is pretty lower than any other Colleges in the vicinity. My PG. Course Costs less than 20000. The college takes up students based on merits only. No extra fee is charged for securing a seat. Mode of payment is online. Generally we have to take the challan from office and pay to the nearest bank.
Fees and Financial Aid
I got an scholarship Offered by State Government. SVMCM. I had to fill up a form and submit the documents to my college for verification. My college was helpful about it and got my scholarship with assistance from my college office. In total I got 60000. For this Eligibility criteria was Graduation Degree with more than 50% and later on passing all the subject to avail the sum.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is definitely equal. We don't have any dorm parties (I am not aware of any) We had several workshops regarding different subjects. Students from different race, economic background, religion or political status come here and co habits peacefully. We are strict against any ragging/misbehaves. We have anti ragging committee. Students Union is also actively helpful. Students are nice to each other and learn here and resides in harmony.
Hostel Facilities
We don't have hostel facility associated with college. The college is situated in a sub urban with easy access and available transportation. So residing at the campus is not necessary. Students generally resides at P. G or mess in the vicinity.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes they are helpful. We were given some of their names and some came to college in different occasions. Some of them are really famous. They gave us some tips about career opportunities and advices. Some of them have really impressed me, I do want to join research field because their work fascinated me.
Admission
I opted out chemistry because I already graduated in the subject from my hometown college. Since I moved to kolkata, I chose this college because the Chemistry Department here is one of the best in Kolkata region. We have many sincere reputated faculties. They nurture our concept and enhance our skills in our field. Also Since the college is Governed By State Government, Fees are comperatively lower than other Colleges which is a big opportunity for a student like me coming froma economically weak background.
Faculty
We have one of the best department (Chemistry) in Kolkata. Our Department Head is 63years old and he is pride of our department. He had his post doctoral studies in UK and attended several seminars abroad. Age range of our faculty varies from 60+ to 30+. We have 15 permanent teachers. 14 of them have docorate degrees. Most of them still contribute to research and we get to learn a lot from them. Also other departments have many teachers but I am not aware of other departments' details. We had some advanced seminars (eg. recently on Cryo Electronic Microscopy, we got certificate) generally on theoretical and research oriented topics. I am not sure if they are industry level or not.
