ISI Kolkata: Admission 2026, Fees, Courses, Cutoff, Ranking, Placement

The section-wise weightage for final PGDBA shortlisting is not revealed by these colleges. They analyze all these aspects and a candidate’s interview when putting out the final offer. The interview helps them assess what a candidate brings to the table. Even if they start announcing the section-wise weightages some day, that should not affect your test preparation. Your work experience and past academic record are unchangeable factors, but your entrance test score is in your hands. 

Study for the entrance exam with utmost sincerity, and stop worrying about other aspects of your profile that you can not change.

Both ISI Kolkata and ISI Delhi are excellent institutes offering the MS in Quantitative Economics program. It’s difficult to compare the two as they have similar admission criteria, placement, and even scholarship opportunities.

However, if I had been in your place, I would have chosen ISI Kolkata as it has more courses, professors, and students. The students get to interact with students in non-MSQE courses.

While all three institutes are prestigious institutes, my sister chose ISI Kolkata for a number of reasons. Here are a few reasons

• ISI Kolkata is the best institute when it comes to Maths and it is ranked #1401+ in QS World University Rankings 2024. Its flagship course is B.Stat. 
• In this modern era, Statistics is highly demanded and ISI opens opportunities in the same. 
• The placement scenario of ISI Kolkata is at par with the top IITS. The average package recorded is INR 25.50 LPA while the highest stood at INR 89 LPA.  
• The institute offers a full scholarship and currently, a number of ISI pass-outs are undergoing PhD programs in top foreign universities.
• ISI has no tuition fees except hostel fees. In fact, students get an annual scholarship of Rs. 36,000/-.
• The small batch size improved the student-teacher ratio as a result all students got individual attention.
• The accommodation facilities are great and students are allotted single occupancy rooms. 

ISI Kolkata is a great option as it offers opportunities in both, jobs and higher education.

I can never stop suggesting people join ISI Kolkata by any means. It’s a magical place for math lovers and has given birth to many world-renowned Mathematicians. Even the offered SERC at IISc cannot be compared to ISI. 

Whenever you are choosing a college or even a branch, the best way to determine the best option is to check the faculty profiles. People who choose colleges solely on the basis of placements realize the true scenario to be way different than expected and end up regretting their decision. So, don’t aim for becoming successful only, rather become talented and skilled enough that success seeks you on its own. Stop focusing on placements, focus on other major things, and good placements will be well on your way!

If you are considering pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Statistics (BStat) or Mathematics, it's important to know that Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) offers these programs at their Kolkata and Bangalore campuses. Here's what you need to know about each campus:

ISI Kolkata Campus:

• Students who complete the BStat program can go on to pursue higher studies in Statistics or pursue a career in fields such as data science, actuarial science, finance, and more.

ISI Bangalore Centre:

• ISI Bangalore is a relatively newer campus of the institute, established in 2015.
• The Bangalore Centre primarily focuses on research in Mathematics and related fields and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Mathematics.
• The center has a strong faculty of mathematicians who are actively involved in research and offer high-quality teaching.
• The undergraduate program in Mathematics at ISI Bangalore is designed to provide a strong foundation in the subject and prepares students for higher studies or a career in academia or industry.

In summary, if you are specifically looking for the BStat program, ISI Kolkata is the only campus that offers it. However, if you are interested in Mathematics, the Bangalore Centre of ISI is an excellent choice, with a strong faculty and a focus on research.

When choosing between a computer science or statistics perspective for ML, it's important to consider your goals. Statisticians have high standards for theoretical guarantees and usually publish in journals. It may take 5-6 years after initial conception for a method to be accepted and used. On the other hand, computer science and ML move quickly with conferences as the primary venues. Methods and code quickly spread, and people start using them.

In general, computer science is considered a better choice for ML than statistics departments. If you're considering the ISI Machine Intelligence Unit, note that it's mostly made up of statisticians who research fuzzy logic and publish in stats or application-specific journals. Their papers don't usually appear in flagship ML venues like NIPS, ICML, or KDD.

When deciding between a CS or statistics Ph.D., also consider your employment options after graduation. The majority of people in top Indian labs like MSR, Google, and XRCI are CS PhDs, if not 100%. Statistics PhDs, on the other hand, typically work in actuarial firms or investment banks, which have different work objectives.
