Jadavpur University - [JU], Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication
Reviewed on Nov 19, 2021(Enrolled 2018)

Remarks

The admission process was quite simple. We had to appear for an entrance test that was of 100 marks which consisted of MCQ questions as well as essay-type questions. If you are planning to appear for the entrance examination, you need to have a strong grasp of the subject, current affairs, and general knowledge. All the questions were based on these three categories. You need to have at least 50% in your graduation to sit for the entrance exam. You can find the application form on the college website www.jaduniv.edu.in and learn about the application fees and application dates from the online website as well. Other than that, you can join the public and private groups of Jadavpur University on Facebook and get updated information regarding the application, entrance test, and others from the group feed.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I love to study journalism and mass communication and I grew interested in the subject from Class 11. When I was in Class 11, I hardly had any idea regarding the subject and was quite unsure before opting for this subject as an elective. But later, I found it quite interesting, thanks to my teacher who kept supporting me always. It was only because of her support that I topped in the subject, got a first-class in college, and was ranked among the top 6 in university. Coming to the faculty, the faculty is quite advanced and they have in-depth knowledge about the subject. Besides, they are cooperative and will help you throughout your course. In the course of 2 years, we had to attend 4 internal examinations and 4-semester examinations, which were timed in June and December. The duration between the internal examinations and semester examinations was around 2 weeks. If you follow the curriculum thoroughly, passing these examinations will not be a difficult task for you.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

I did not come across many companies offering internship opportunities. Most of the companies that came to our college, hired students for full-time roles. Especially for the Arts students. But you might get internship opportunities in the Science stream. Science stream placement is quite advanced than the Arts stream.

Placement Experience

3

The placement for the art section is quite poor especially for the Journalism and Mass Communication department. Since this curriculum has been established recently, proper placement arrangements are still in progress. Although many companies visited like Star Bangla, SVF, and IBM, they mainly aimed at selecting students from other art streams. None of us got placement during the course.

Fees and Financial Aid

For the two-year course, we had to pay 6lakhs. The university also provides scholarships and financial assistance to students in need. Some of my classmates attended their second year of college for free.

Campus Life

5

Sanskriti, generally held in March is the main feast of the campus. However, different departments keep hosting different fests throughout the year at OAT. The Sanskriti fest is something that you should not miss if you plan to study here. The light, music, and dance will keep you thrilled throughout the day. All sorts of books and journals are available in the National Library. However, the department also has its own library where you can issue the book that you want after 5 pm. The classroom is basic. There are long benches and seats, lights, fans, a projector screen, a blackboard, a desk, and a table for the teacher. Football, cricket, and basketball are frequently played in the campus playground situated near Gate 1.

Course Curriculum Overview:

h The course curriculum was on the key factory the influenced by decision to join this program it of her strong foundation core subject will also including activity emerging are which elegant with my career interest to curriculum was mandatory compassion balancing theory with practice through labs and mini projects however its relevance to Delaware adapts and could be improved so subject hold outs dated on leak industry integration technique methods were mostly lecture based and belief in protein more quasi and oxygen projectivity is learning outcomes Around 10 to 15 percent of students typically struggle to clear an odd two subjects especially in the second year The making scheme followed in 50s to 50 split between internal and external assignments which helps balance performance over all the curriculum leads Solid Academy foundation but need modernization to better prefer students for enabling industry demand and higher study

Placements depends on your skills Usually there is a compulsory internship at the end of 3rd year If you didnt get it via college you should do it from outside but its compulsory And at the end of 4th year you get placement. Placemeng isnt 100% . If you have the skill you will get placed thats the criteria.many people say you are in IIT your life is sorted .but that aint the reality

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The university is MAKAUT so the curriculum is up to the mark. I liked Programming so I chose B.TECH in CSE. The curriculum is very basic in terms of practical world problem though they are building blocks, but you need to do the extra bit of work to qualify for the real world scenarios. I think more mandatory projects integrated with current set of skills would be a cherry on top. Exams are very frequent like every 3-4 months there is a semester exam and they are moderately difficult.
