IIT KGP in a sophmores eye

I am interested in exploring business and all, so the course i chose is Industril and systems engineering which mainly focuses on optimizing industrial problems.. My curriculum aligns with my interest. In my opinion the new updated curriculum is better. The exam methods currently is okay but i think professors should also consider improving the gradings for those who deserve

The campus offers internship at the beggining of pre final year.. the students can also go for off campus internship whenever they want. We can do projects under professors of any department as per our wish.

The students can apply for internship via Career Development Centre in the beginning of their pre final Year. they can go for off campus intern whenever they want. Most of the goo companies would come and mostly for software finance consulting etc. The placements start in the second last semester as far as i know. The competition for placement is getting really high these days

The fee structure for students admitted through JEE Advanced varies by category and family income. For General,EWS,OBC-NCL students with family income above 5 lakh rupees per annum, the tution fe is 1 lakh per semester, along with other compulsory charges like registratiom,examination,internet,gymkhana,laboratory, hostel rent, electrucity/water , hall establishment, hostel overheaf,hall budget, and mess charges. In the 1st year, one time fees such as caution deposits, alumni subscription, etc fees are also paid bringing the total first year cost around 3.77 lakh. From the second year onwards, without one time charges the annual cost is about 2.6 lakh. For UR/EWS/OBC_NCL students with income between 1lakh and 5 lakh, the tution fee is reduced to 33.33k per semester. And for income below 1 lakh the tution fee is zero. Merit cum scholorships are availble which gives tution fee waiver along with 12k per annum for income below 6 lakh

There are two fest one tech fest and one cultural fest. In tech fest many competitions related to tech would be there. The Librabry here is one of the biggest librabry in asia. it has books in many domain. we can take book from library as well. the sports in the campus in really nice. there are many clubs in the campus almost in all fields interested people can join

The hostels are average. the quality of the food is much better in the other hostels compared to the freshers hostel. some of them are located very far from the academic complexes. here all students are in hostel itself

The course that i took now was my prefed one itself.. this course mostly deals with optimising the business problems which is something that i really love. As i was almost sure that i could get into this college i did not apply for any other colleges that i could get with my rank. The admission was based on the JEE Advanced Rank. Most of the admission process was done through online and only verification during physical reporting

The no of faculties are decent.. but the number of faculties in BS programmes are relatively lower compared to iit madras. My departmental professors are mostly nice. Most of them are approachable. In first year the courses would be mostly common and some of those classes wont be that good. There are 2 exams in a semester one in med and another at the end and there will be 2 tests also. The exams are of high standard. Some may go very hard and some ay go easy as well

The nightlife culture is high in the campus. the gym etc is decent. there are many hostels in the campus and in most of them there are gyms canteens vending machines etc available. there is no timing for hostel we can get in or leave whenever we want
