To take admission into Kalyani Government Engineering College one has to give WBJEE entrance examination and on the basis of your rank, you get admission there. My WBJEE general merit rank was 4407 and I got into the Information Technology branch. The cutoff rank varies each year but has gone lower in the last few years. The competitive environment is present there which will be a boon to excel in your career and overall development, rest it's up to you to take the admissions
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose IT as I knew this sector is booming and there's will be financial freedom in this sector. The faculty-student ratio does not matter but as a matter of fact, I tell you it is about 1:15. The teachers are qualified but neither one will get much input from teachers nor you yourself are going to give once you come here but yes you will learn a lot from your batchmates and seniors. The exam is easy to pass, studying seriously just 1 night before exams will do but do study a little more if you want better grades.
Internships Opportunities
Try for internships offcampus because not much opportunity will be there with internships but last year and this year amazon came for internship offer but will pick 4-5 candidates so for majority look for offcampus.
Placement Experience
The pre-placement season starts from the 6th and official placements start from the 7th sem. usually, 8-10 companies come for on-campus placement with the majority of the mass recruiters and a few good offers. The highest on-campus offer lies between 7-8 LPA and the highest off-campus offer goes 30 LPA and above. The average is about 5 LPA. In CS/IT/ECE branch 80-90 percent of people get placed but in other branches majority go for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is a nominal fees of Rs 12000 per semester for IT branch and it is fixed. There is a scholarship program for full and half fee waivior if your family income is less. If one is a little bit serious about her/his career one will bag a job opportunity by the end of her/his B.Tech
Campus Life
If you reside in a hostel your college life is going to be awesome, getting into IITs and NITS matters but is not all, so be patient, here you will learn a lot.KGEC has an annual techno-management and cultural fest "ESPEKTRO" which is like the days we wait for the entire year. One can borrow books from the library, and there's a lot of co-curricular activity waiting for you here, there are several clubs but one cannot easily manage many clubs at once so choose wisely.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel has basic facilities and expects much from here, the junior hostel does have good food as they don't know how to deal with staff and make them cook better but as you get into 2nd year onwards you will have good food.
