Remarks
One can complete Bachelor of Engineering here just for Rs. 10,000. This allows students from all kinds of background come together and study and study without a burden of loans. Another positive thing remains the inclusive culture.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is pretty inclusive. Students get enough freedom to explore. Exam structure is 1 or 2 class tests and a semester exam every 6 months. Syllabus can be updated which I came to know is being done.
Placement Experience
Placements in FET are great. My batch had highest offered salary as 42 LPA. This year that is 65 Lpa so far. Average salary offered in EE, ME, Instrumentation is around 8-10 lpa, that in ETCE is around 10-12 lpa, that in IT is around 15 lpa, in CSE that is 20 lpa.
College Events
There are 3 faculties. Namely Faculty of Engg and Technology, Science Faculty and Arts Faculty. All three have their annual cultural fest called Sanskriti. FET has own freshers' welcome event called U-Turn, all the departments have their own freshers welcome events. FET's tech fest is there, named SRIJAN. JU EE has their own tech fest called Convolution. Well there are numerous more cultural events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Very feasible fee structure. It's around 2450 Rs per year for bachelor of engineering courses, except IT. As IT was started as a self financed course. Though that too may come down as students are agitating.
Fees and Financial Aid
Different scholarships are available for underprivileged students. Loans are usually not needed because the fees and hostel rents are so low. And even if needed, scholarships cover those. Overall, doing engineering in 10k Rs means it's already a scholarship.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are allavailable and students participate in those freely, without any fear of missing out academics. Labs are old but some old labs are fascinating. Sports is very much encouraged.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is very strong and the effort is very conscious. The strong alumni contact is through different fests and movements. Here fests are mostly sponsored by the alumni, not the corporate. They are very helpful at times.
Admission
WBJEE top rankers get admission in JU. My rank was 395 in WBJEE 2014. Students appearing in the exam is usually around 1.5 lacs. As of now the best lot i.e. ranks below 150 get into JU CSE. For EE the required rank these days is around 500-600.
Faculty
Faculty is mostly good and research oriented. The best part is that the faculty is very student friendly and considerate. They are less concerned about marks and more concerned about the development of a student as a human.
