First, it's important to note that my knowledge is primarily about Delhi Technological University (DTU). Admissions at DTU are through JEE Mains, while Jadavpur University (JU) admits students via WBJEE. DTU reserves 85% of its seats for Delhi students, and a similar scenario likely exists at JU.

Here are some points about Mechanical Engineering at DTU:

  • Mechanical engineering at DTU was once regarded as the best course in all of Asia during its first 30 years. However, after the establishment of IITs and some NITs, that reputation isn't as strong today.
  • The labs and classrooms are impressive. You won't be disappointed here. All labs are well-maintained and equipped, and classrooms come with air-conditioning.
  • The faculty is well-educated, and you can verify their specializations and degrees on the Delhi Technological University website. However, in the mechanical engineering department, students often skip classes after the first two years, so attendance isn't a major concern.
  • From a placement perspective, the current placement session has been successful for many students, with some securing two or even three job offers. If you keep your aggregate up, opportunities are plentiful!

DTU's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a strong ROI with higher placement packages, often reaching up to 1.8 crores, compared to Jadavpur University's Information Technology, which has a high package around 1 crore. While DTU has a larger number of companies visiting for placements and a more diverse curriculum aligned with industry needs, Jadavpur provides a solid foundation with good internship opportunities but fewer high-paying companies. Scholarships are limited at both institutions, making cost a factor; however, the higher average salaries and better placement rates at DTU suggest it's the smarter financial choice for those aiming for lucrative careers. If you’re focused on maximizing your earning potential, DTU is the way to go; but if you prefer a strong tech foundation in a reputed college, Jadavpur is still a good option.

If you're from West Bengal and want to stay close to home, go for Jadavpur University. You'll receive a more well-rounded education there. The faculty in Mechanical Engineering has a mix of good and bad professors, but overall, the experience is solid.

If you're looking to get away from home, choose DTU. It offers an amazing college experience! You'll love the hostel life and the freedom that comes with it. However, be proactive if you want to dive into research. There are great tech teams here working on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, etc., but it all depends on your initiative.

Placements are definitely better at DTU due to its proximity to the national capital.

I strongly advise against taking a drop. Jadavpur University is an excellent institution, and the placements for CSE and IT are often quite comparable across the board. However, this doesn’t mean that IT graduates lack the opportunities that CSE graduates have.

So, take this advice: choose IT at Jadavpur University, and you won’t regret your decision!

I've researched both DTU B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering and Jadavpur University Information Technology, and honestly, each has its strengths. DTU has a stronger placement record with companies like Google and Microsoft offering high packages, and their curriculum deeply aligns with industry needs, which is a plus for practical learning. Jadavpur, on the other hand, has a more relaxed campus life with a vibrant culture and decent faculty, but the placement opportunities seem less aggressive. If you're highly driven and want top-tier placement chances, I'd lean towards DTU, while Jadavpur is great if you're looking for a balanced experience with a solid community feel.
