How do the placements really compare between DTU B.Tech Environmental Engineering and Jadavpur University Information Technology?

In my view, Jadavpur University’s Information Technology offers a better return on investment compared to DTU’s B.Tech in Environmental Engineering. DTU does have a strong placement record with over 300 companies visiting and high packages, but many students from Jadavpur also secure good placements, especially in tech roles without the same financial burden. Scholarships are available at both institutions, but Jadavpur’s relatively lower fees combined with decent placement opportunities make it a more attractive option for students focused on value for money. If you’re keen on core engineering and can afford the higher fees, DTU is great; but if you want a solid education without breaking the bank, Jadavpur University is the way to go.

• Ranking: According to NIRF rankings, JU is in a much better position than DTU.
• Economy: In terms of economy, there is no comparison. However, DTU also offers a very good return on investment.
• Location: Location-wise, DTU has a slight edge over JU, although JU is also situated in the heart of a metropolitan city.
• Infrastructure: Both colleges have well-maintained infrastructure, but if I had to choose one, I’d go for DTU.
• Placement: DTU's placements can't really compare with JU's. To be honest, I’d say JU's placements (in a few departments) are on par with IIT Kgp's placements.
• Huge lush green pollution-free campus: Yes! This is definitely something to love—a huge lush green pollution-free campus.
• Opportunities: Both colleges will provide multiple opportunities if you are a deserving student. However, the success rate in competitive exams like GATE, CAT, and XAT is slightly higher from Jadavpur University. Even the 2nd ranker in ESE (CE) in 2019 was from Jadavpur University.

That said, we should take all rankings with a pinch of salt. However, it's also true that public perception can be misleading. DTU, NSIT, and BITS Pilani enjoy better branding and recognition among the general public. JU, despite being equally good, doesn't get as much hype at the national level.

I strongly advise against taking a drop. Jadavpur University is an excellent institution, and the placements for CSE and IT are often quite comparable. However, this doesn't imply that IT graduates lack opportunities like their CSE counterparts.

So, take this advice: choose IT at Jadavpur University, and you will not regret your decision!
