Faculty

I must say, the facilities are the top, they are the best the country has to offer, they have a huge experience of their teaching, they are very approachable to us, it's a very informal interaction between professors and students, which makes it easy for us to interact, the best teacher which I liked was antar bandopadhyay, he might seem a bit dramatic sometimes, but that drama makes the class interesting, but overall all the teachers are very good In terms of teaching, the difficulty of the exam is good, you have to study rigorously to pass the exams

Placement Experience

There is 100% placement in ISI INSTITUTE. With the highest placement of 34 lpa , avg placement is 26 lpa, median placement is 24 lpa The companies that visit are jp Morgan, goldman Sachs, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, Walmart, morgan Stanley, HDFC Bank, icici bank, kotak, amazon, all state, and capital one. infoedge , nomura and many more my plan is to do BSDs and also master's degree of this course from this institute and look for better placements in the top companies, but we also plan to focus on startups

Our grand annual fest XAVOTSAV is well-known in all over India, as it should be but apart from that their are several societies/ clubs run by student bodies which a re worth joining and contributing for. Be it dancing, singing, art, debate or marketing there's always a society u can count for in Xavier's. A student who wants to upskill their inerpersonal skills, level up their out reach know their seniors from different batches, gain experience and prepare themselves for the real world, joining a few of the societies is a must. It would be a benifit to raise the compulsary non-academic credits at the end of the course. Besides this there is also a ncesssity for completing some 35 hours social work in order to gain the social credits. Sports is an integral part of our college with annual sports events comprising of football, basketball, volleyball, relay , board games, e-sports. There are a number of halls namely Xavier Hall, Jubille Hall, and our grand Depelchin Auditorium.

Course Curriculum Overview

The propspects of this degree is ever-growing. One might get to choose from wider aspects and can switch their higher studies after completing graduation in Statistics. Data Science, pure math, Economics are a few of them. But mostly students tend to aim for IITs and ISI but not to mention their are a variety of options to choose from. The curriculum from semester 1 to semester 6( now semester 8) has been designed for the ulterior benefit of the student going in-depth into the deeper concepts of statistical analysis finely knitted with inferential analysis and linear models as 2 of its mostly used ideas. The frequency of the exams prepares a student well for the final semesters given he/she studies well throughout the year.

Course Curriculum Overview

There are lot of real world usage of the particular course, data interpretation, data analysis and a lot more, the course prepares the student practically for the real world experience, the teaching methods however should not focus on subjective methods rather on practical skill development of the students while teaching the subject. The frequency of exams is 2 exams per year and while one exam has a gap of 3-4 months to complete the syllabus, the difficult level of exams is quite tough.

Faculty

Faculty and student relationship for the Science department is overall good, except few professors. However, that can be balanced out by, overall cooperative nature. The exam difficulty level is very tough, there are overall 6 semester examinations in the course of 3 years, and it's very difficult to clear the exams, because the paper set each time is very tough. The paper-checking procedures is not very student friendly too, there is no provision for grace marks.

It's 25550 for the first year and it might increase for sure this year even after reservation certificate I'm not getting any kind of fee returns. Examination fee is different. It's range from 2000-3000 depends upon the subjects you choose .

Course Curriculum Overview

Well the course is statistics that is related with data and I wanna be data analyst so that's why I chose it. It really helps to prepare for real world cause this is a practical course and you'll learn lot of practical thing would help you for sure.i don't think there's a need for improvement.

The college has a pretty active political affiliation to RSS. Apart from that the college has one of the most renowned drama society badging a position at iit kanpur, music society, dance society. Along with co curriculur societies, academic and field related societies such as sankhyki, the statistical society, placement cell and other field related societies are pretty active. Certificate from these societies are beneficial for further internship and placement opportunities. It also has one of the oldest university libraries with wide range of academic books

Faculty

University of Delhi itself is known to have one of the best Statistics department after ISI, but the faculty here is very supportive and are a part of the main examination department, that is, they are involved in the question paper drafting of the university. College itself isn't known for the grandest campus, but the Statistics department and the students are studious and serious. Personal attention is provided to each student as the ratio between teacher and student is 1:32

The faculty members are extremely cooperative. They are highly educated. The teacher to student ratio on an average throughout all departments is 1:25. One can interact with the professors anytime during the college hours and we are even allowed to text or call them should the need arise. Overall, if the number of faculty members is increased a little bit, then the academics would easily get a 10/10 score.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is made to benefit the students. Stress is relayed on theoretical aspects and the subject matter, rather than technocrat-ish superficial learning. One can get a good grasp on the subject by the time they complete their graduation, and hence, can adapt to any form of work in their career.

In my college, there are around 35 to 40 societies. Every department has its own society and there are other societies in photography, filmmaking, dancing, singing, finance-related, English and Hindi debating society, the data science society, enactus, 180DC, etc. You can gain very crucial skills from these societies which makes you job-ready for the corporate world. Sports and extracurricular activities are also great. Very successful players such as Rishabh Pant have studied at this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

My course is BSc Statistics hons., so it's a difficult course and the exams are really difficult. Therefore, Teachers warn students that they can't pass the exam without paying attention to their studies. In fact, those students who score above 90% in CBSE exams find it very challenging to score decent marks. The course curriculum is really good.

To be honest the faculty of every department are very much experienced and they are humble too. Like they are always ready to solve your doubts. Also, if you feel shy to ask in the classroom then you can also ask for help after the class they will always help you.

Internships Opportunities

In St. Xavier's College Ranchi there is no internship available on campus. You have to find it on your own. However internship is compulsory for every student in order to pass the final year. There are placements in BBA, Bcom Accounts, BJMC

I have chosen statistics (honours) as my graduationor bachelor degree for which I had to pay 50 thousand per year. I think it is little expensive for middle class family. And scholarship are to OBC,SC AND ST but being a general student I also have some concern regarding this. We are not also rich so if we get some scholarship then it would be beneficial for us.

Ques. What is the future of B.Math and B.Stat students in ISI, Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Praniti Das on 28 Sept 21

Ans. ISI Kolkata does not provide a B.Math program. The majority of B.Stat students return for M.Stat while some people join CMI, TIFR, IIM, and other such organizations.  M.Stat employees earn an average of 16–17 LPA, and many of them attend prestigious US graduate institutions. There are no fees for the entire program, and a stipend is provided. So, if you're looking for a career here, your future is bright.Read more

Ques. Is it safe to join a B.Stat at ISI Kolkata (I'm a non-Bengali student)?

● Top Answer By Natasha Kaur on 22 Sept 21

Ans. Kolkata is one of India's safest cities. This city attracts visitors from all over India and the world. That's why it's known as the "City of Joy." Bengalis are extremely friendly.  ISI Kolkata is known to have the most sought-after institute in Statistical expertise. It has one of the best faculty members in India. Out of which, 30 professors were published in Standford University. Moreover, you have got a seat in B.Stat which is considered one of the toughest examinations for Mathematics in Asia. You should base your judgement on the basis of a stereotype as letting go of this opportunity will be a wrong decision. Almost 50% of the batch consists of Non-Bengalis here at ISI Kolkata. There is no need to worry as the institute also has a rigid anti-ragging policy.Read more

Ques. Which university will be best for statistics University of Allahabad or University of Lucknow?

● Top Answer By Reshmi Sen, on 08 Nov 21

Ans. Both University of Allahabad and University of Lucknow are good in their own ways. They also consist of their fair share of flaws. Here’s mentioning some facts about both these colleges I got to know online: The faculty of both colleges are really good. They are highly experienced and extremely cooperative.  Subjects like statistics, geology, zoology, astronomy are considered good by students at University of Lucknow. Both have a strong alumni network. Many consider Allahabad University better than Lucknow University due to its central status. But after considering everything, you need to keep one thing in mind that the institution is not the major factor for your success. It is your dedication and hard work that will help you reach your goal.Read more

Ques. What is the cutoff for a B Stat at Asutosh College Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Senjuti Roy on 25 Oct 21

Ans. The required prerequisite for doing a B.Stat at Asutose College is 50% in the 12th standard. Having Statistics/Mathematics in your 10+2 is mandatory. Students who have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination and have also passed the English test with full marks of not less than 100 are eligible to apply. If you have a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or the cessation of a recognized regular Course of Study after passing the previous qualifying test, then you are not eligible to apply. Ques. Is Asutosh college good for statistics honours?

● Top Answer By Saunak Guha on 19 Oct 21

Ans. I have a few friends from the Statistics department. Based on the things I heard from them, I will say the department is quite great. Professors are well-qualified, strict and they never miss any scheduled class. Attendance is taken seriously in the department. You won’t be able to slack off. You also have to study seriously for the tests. Because if you fail in sectionals, you won’t be able to sit for finals. Read more

Ques. Which branch is better, IIT Kanpur statistics and data science (B.Sc) or IIT Dhanbad CSE?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 12 Oct 23

Ans. Both the courses are good.  However, with the advancement of technologies like AI and ML, and one’s increasing dependency upon them, Data Science has become a field with immense potential.  Data Science has a lot of future scope, and its demand will only increase with time. This field requires a good understanding of Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (Especially Python Language).  BSc. in Data Science is an even better option than CSE at present. Moreover, college-wise, IIT Kanpur is way ahead of IIT Dhanbad.  Therefore I would recommend you choose BSc. Statistics and Data Science at IIT Kanpur over CSE at IIT Dhanbad. Read more

Ques. How is SVKM's NMIMS Science department, specifically a B.Sc in applied statistics and analytics?

● Top Answer By Shivangi Khatana on 18 Jun 21

Ans. One of my friends is currently doing her Bachelor's in Science, specifically in Applied Science and Statistics from NMIMS- Kharghar campus. She has given me some input which I will be sharing with you. Frankly, everything so far has been excellent for her. She appreciates the syllabus and all that's taught. The syllabus covers all that one needs to know about Data Science and its basics. My friend is about to get into the 3rd semester after this Corona wave is over. The basics that were covered in first year were: Mathematics - Calculus Statistics - Descriptive Probability and Distribution Economics - Micro and Macro For coding, she had: " C " language, DBMS, " R ", SPSS, SCILAB and Python (from the second year of syllabus) Actuarial Science and additional projects were added by the time she had reached her second year. You are seen as more experienced when you begin studying Actuarial Science. It is sufficient to cover all your basics that concern Data Science. Along with a brilliant syllabus arrives a pretty hectic schedule. There are regular exams wherein you will only get a week for preparation. Not only this but there are presentations, assignments and projects to cover and submit before the deadline. It is going to be a thrilling experience as all the knowledge and information will help you understand how to perform well under any circumstances with perfection.Read more

Ques. What are some reasons to not choose B.Stat at ISI Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Soutrik Banerjee on 22 Aug 22

Ans. Life at ISI Kolkata isn’t similar to that of other typical colleges, where you can bunk classes, mug up concepts right before the examination, and score passing grades. It maintains a high standard of academics. The curriculum and course work is extremely grueling. Many students find it difficult to even score passing marks in some courses. ISI doesn’t give any option to retake a course. Many students take admission at ISI for the free-of-cost world-class education, it offers. This is not a good motivation for choosing the institute. Choose ISI Kolkata B.Stat, only if you are interested in the course. Read more

Ques. Is it wise to prepare for the ISI Kolkata B.Stat entrance exam instead of IIT?

● Top Answer By Shrayanshi Roy on 15 Sept 21

Ans. Taking a course at IIT is just as difficult and demanding as pursuing a B.Stat course at ISI. They are whatever you choose to do with your life, whether you like mathematics/statistics enough to spend three years learning statistics (and a little math) and statistics solely at ISI, or you believe you are skilled in another subject that has a good course at one of the numerous IITs. It depends totally on where you want to be. Furthermore, even if you prepare for college X, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. As a result, keeping colleges Y and Z in mind as a backup is always a good idea. Only you can decide which option is preferable for you and what you want. Read more
