Stevens Institute of Technology Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Stevens Institute of Technology sets a common academic and English-test floor for Indian applicants that scales up for finance and quantitative tracks.

Postgraduate Requirements at Stevens Institute of Technology

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale, equivalent to 65% to 70% or CGPA 6.5/10 in Indian marking
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 for direct entry (IELTS 6.0 admitted with first-term ELC bridge), TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale), or Duolingo 115
  • Credential verification: WES or similar course-by-course evaluation for Indian bachelor’s transcripts
  • GRE/GMAT: Optional for most master’s tracks; MS Financial Engineering strongly recommends a competitive GRE quantitative score

Undergraduate Requirements at Stevens Institute of Technology

  • Academic: Class 12 with 75% or above, including Mathematics and Science
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale), or Duolingo 105
  • SAT/ACT: Test-optional for Fall 2027

Key insight: The IELTS 6.0 conditional pathway with a first-term English Language Center course is a real second chance for Indian applicants who miss the 6.5 mark by 0.5 band and would otherwise be rejected.

Stevens Institute of Technology Acceptance Rate 2027

Stevens Institute of Technology reports a headline acceptance rate of 43% (estimated) across undergraduate admissions, placing it in the moderately selective band for private US research universities. Graduate admissions are decentralised by school and department, and select tracks such as MS Financial Engineering apply a tougher quantitative bar.

For Indian applicants, the practical selectivity for MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and MS Financial Engineering is meaningfully sharper than the headline UG number, driven by GPA benchmarks and demonstrated coursework in mathematics and programming. Undergraduate admissions are more forgiving when Class 12 marks and STEM subjects are strong.

Reality check: A CGPA above 7.5/10 in a BTech or a strong bachelor’s in mathematics, statistics, or engineering materially improves your odds for the top-demand MS tracks even though the university-wide rate looks approachable.

  • Location and transport: Hoboken PATH station is 10 minutes on foot from campus, connecting to Manhattan and Newark for internships and finance placements

Stevens Institute of Technology Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Stevens Institute of Technology reports strong early-career outcomes for both undergraduate and graduate cohorts, with the Class of 2025 achieving a headline outcome rate above 90% within six months.

  • Outcomes rate: 93.4% of graduates secured employment or graduate school within 6 months (Class of 2025)
  • Average undergraduate starting salary: USD 86,900 (INR 83.2 lakh)
  • Average graduate starting salary: USD 89,437 (INR 85.7 lakh)
  • Employers of alumni: Google, Microsoft, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Lockheed Martin have hired Stevens graduates historically
  • Post-study work: Standard 12-month OPT for all graduates plus 24-month STEM OPT extension for eligible engineering, computing, and quantitative finance tracks, totalling 36 months of work authorisation
  • Career support: Career Center runs resume workshops, mock interviews, and semester-long recruiting events with Wall Street and tech employers

Insider note: Indian MS graduates in finance and analytics benefit disproportionately from the PATH-train commute to New York, where on-campus interviews with hedge funds and banks are logistically easier than for peers in landlocked US cities. For broader options, browse MBA universities in USA.

Stevens Institute of Technology vs Peer Universities

The most useful peers for Indian applicants weighing Stevens are other STEM-heavy private and public research universities in the New York metropolitan area and the North-East US corridor.

UniversityQS World 2027Collegedunia Study AbroadAvg PG Fee (2 years)Differentiator
Stevens Institute of Technology#675#534USD 91,972 (INR 88.1 lakh)STEM-designated MS with Hudson riverfront campus and Wall Street proximity

New York UniversityNANANA (verify at official page)Manhattan private research university, wider humanities and business coverage
Rutgers University New BrunswickNANANA (verify at official page)Large public research university in New Jersey with broader programme mix

Stevens stands out on ROI and STEM density: the US News #9 Best Return on Investment position and the uniform full-STEM classification across MS tracks give a stronger post-study work runway than most peers at the same fee band.

Stevens Institute of Technology suits Indian applicants who want a STEM master’s with New York recruiting reach at a private-university fee that stays under the USD 100,000 total mark. The USD 91,972 two-year investment against a USD 89,437 median graduate salary produces a payback window that most Indian families can plan against, and the 36-month STEM work runway is the single most decisive Indian-specific advantage.

Stevens is not the fit for applicants who need a top-100 QS brand for public-sector Indian scholarships or a large humanities and social-science menu. Applicants targeting broader coursework at a comparable price point should shortlist New Jersey Institute of Technology as a public-tuition alternative before deciding.

Stevens Institute of Technology FAQs

Ques. Are all Stevens Institute of Technology master’s programmes STEM-designated for OPT?

Ans. Yes, all engineering, computing, data, analytics, and quantitative finance master’s tracks at Stevens Institute of Technology are STEM-designated, which unlocks the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12-month F-1 OPT window. That gives graduates up to 36 months of US work authorisation. The MBA and pure business tracks may not qualify; confirm the CIP code on your I-20 before enrolment.

Ques. Do Indian applicants need GRE or GMAT for Stevens MS admission?

Ans. GRE and GMAT are optional for most Stevens master’s programmes, including MS Computer Science and MS Data Science. MS Financial Engineering and select PhD tracks strongly recommend a competitive GRE quantitative score, and a strong GRE also helps Indian applicants secure Provost Master’s Scholarship consideration. Applicants without test scores need to compensate with a strong bachelor’s GPA and relevant work or research experience.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Stevens?

Ans. F-1 visa holders at Stevens Institute of Technology can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours during breaks. Off-campus work through Curricular Practical Training becomes available typically after two semesters of enrolment. Graduate teaching or research assistantship positions offer both stipend income and partial tuition coverage and are the most common paid pathway for Indian MS students.

Ques. What application fee does Stevens charge Indian applicants?

Ans. Stevens Institute of Technology charges USD 75 (INR 7,182) for undergraduate applications, USD 60 (INR 5,746) for standard master’s applications, and USD 70 (INR 6,703) for MBA applications. The fee is non-refundable and paid at submission through the Stevens online applicant portal. Fee waivers are rare for international applicants; participation in Stevens virtual events sometimes triggers a limited-time waiver code.

Ques. Which Indian banks recognise Stevens for education loan approval?

Ans. Stevens Institute of Technology is on the pre-approved international university list for major Indian lenders including State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and non-banking financial companies such as Prodigy Finance, Avanse, and Auxilo. Standard loans cover full tuition plus living expenses up to INR 1.5 crore. Loans against property or fixed deposits typically clear the fastest for STEM master’s tracks.

Ques. How does Stevens verify Indian bachelor’s transcripts?

Ans. Stevens accepts course-by-course credential evaluation reports from World Education Services and other NACES-member agencies for Indian bachelor’s degrees. Indian transcripts should be sent directly from the awarding university to WES, and the WES report should be sent electronically to Stevens graduate admissions. Allow six to eight weeks for WES processing; starting the evaluation before submitting the Stevens application is strongly recommended for Indian applicants.

Ques. Are dependents allowed on the F-1 visa for Stevens students?

Ans. Yes, spouses and unmarried children under 21 can accompany Indian F-1 students at Stevens on the F-2 dependent visa. Financial proof needs to cover an additional USD 6,000 to 8,000 per dependent per year for the initial I-20. F-2 dependents cannot work but can study part-time, and F-2 children can enrol in US K-12 schools. Bank statements or education loan sanction letters covering the dependent amount are acceptable proof.

Ques. Does Stevens offer conditional admission for lower English test scores?

Ans. Yes, Indian applicants with IELTS 6.0 for master’s programmes may receive conditional admission requiring a first-semester English Language Center course at Stevens. The ELC course is credit-bearing but does not replace core programme credits, adding one semester and roughly USD 6,500 in tuition. Applicants below IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 70 need to complete a standalone English pathway before applying for full admission.

  • The infrastructure is good with a beautiful view of the New York skyline and the Hudson River.
  • Only one main campus.
  • Very few extracurricular activities for graduate students.
  • Research facilities are very good, but not focused on actual real-time projects.
  • Sports facilities: Tennis courts, swimming pool, bowling alley
  • FinTech labs are very good, so I would suggest you at least take one of the FinTech courses to get really good exposure since the faculty in FinTech are highly qualified.

Fees

  • $22000 per semester
  • $18000 for 9-12 credits per sem if exceeding 12 credits per sem, then $2000 per credit
  • $2300 Insurance
  • $2000- other fees

  • Stevens has a single main campus located in Hoboken, New jersey, with a beautiful view of the New York City skyline. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities like a large library, gym, sports fields, student center, and on-campus health services.
  • There are many student-run clubs covering tech, culture, entrepreneurship, and the arts.

  • There is one main campus (it's a pretty small college). We have a library, 2 gyms, a swimming pool, a soccer/lacrosse field and 3 basketball courts along with other sport facilities. There are a lot of clubs that you can join and each of the clubs looks to host 2-3 events per year so there are definitely things to attend if you know where to look.

  • All kinds of facilities is available at Stevens and it also is open campus so it’s kind of mixed with the city it has parks, huge library and even all the buildings in the campus have separate library each, they have a gym, multiple sports court for different games all the medical services provided in the school, there is a police car as well as other emergency services always available for any major problems or incidents.
  • There are multiple clubs or events organized for students since the beginning of there sessions you can enroll in the events which interest you through Stevens duck link app few of the events are free and for few they charge bare minimum.
  • You can explore New Jersey and New York learn different sports and new activities or about the festivals by indulging in this kind of activities.

Fees

  • Total fees for two semester is 65,174 $ where tuition fees is 44,494$, medical and books expense 3,200$.
  • It might be different for different courses and also to keep in mind that Stevens do not provide dorm services for graduate students so you need to find a place on your own and living expenses can be 1500$ per month minimum and maximum can be up-to individual’s lifestyle and expenses.
  • The university follows semester wise fees structure.

  • They only have 1 main campus.
  • We have a library, a football field, tennis, bowling, swimming pool, gym, music rooms, theater and medical services which is not great.
  • The majority of clubs and festivals are for undergrads. Grad students have professional clubs like consulting clubs, business intelligence clubs, and also cultural clubs like the Indian Students Association. They host various events, like Diwali celebrations, etc..
  • Gyms and sports facilities: Everyone can book using the app.

Fees

  • Annual Tuition fees is $44,494. Living expenses is aorund $800-$1000 depending on the individual. Fees is charged per semster. There is also an option to split the fees into 3 parts using Nelnet for additional fee of $20. Using this a semsester fee can be broken down in to 3 parts.
  • Major living expense in rent. Rent in this area starts from 500 dollars for shared rooms to $1000 for private rooms. Food and groceries can be done in under $150. Transportation is not a problem as Steven's offer shuttle services and since its a small area rest is walkable.
Student's also use bikes and e-scooters to commute around. They will cost around $300 which is a one time payment for your entire course.

Overview

I submitted SOP and LOR . Mentioned about my passion towards computer science and my overall goal to accomplish my future targets. I did not have any rounds and was directly selected for a dean's excellence scholarship for my profile. The main reason to choose this university is for its easily customizable courses. I would simply recommend my university to everyone who is willing to study any computer based courses . It's really great here and i love everything about my university.
