What Students Say
Likes
- Great location. It is situated in Hoboken on the Hudson river bank. The college overlooks Manhattan. Great Access to NYC.
- Great Professors, helpful and approachable
- Lot of small events for graduate students. Many events offer free food as well. For the location it has decent recreational activities.
Dislikes
- Too many Indian graduate students as a result the diversity is low.
- Class timings are in the evening, hence sometimes you will have class till 9 in the night (There are some labs till 10pm).
- Not much college culture since it is a small tech school in an expensive location.
Course Curriculum
- The course is comparitively easy if you have relevant IT experience. It is a mix of theory and practice. It has good analytics subjects like ML and databases and also strategy and process courses.
- Positive aspect: it its project-based; you learn most by doing project-based work. Negative aspects is there is a lot of self-learning.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to 6 colleges:
- Stevens (Accepted, Attending)
- Rutgers—I got admitted but I got a better scholarship from Stevens, hence I decided to go with Stevens.
- University of Dallas at Texas (Admitted, the best-ranked program from all my admits. I decided not to go as I found it too expensive)
- University of Maryland College Park (Rejected , probably because of low CGPA)
- University Maryland , Baltimore (Rejected)
-
I choose Stevens because of 3 reasons.
1. I received a good scholarship
2. It was very close to New York City, hence, there is a good chance for networking.
3. I really like the curriculum of the MS IS program. It had a good mix of technology and business. - Although officially they don't ask for the GRE. I had a GRE score of 311. It enhances your application, especially if you have a lower GPA. Steven's considers your application holistically. Work experience, CGPA, and scores all come into play. You can highlight in in your SOP. I had 3 years of relevant work experience, plus the GRE got me the admission.
I also had an IELTS score of 8. Steven's accepted IELTS, TOEFL, and Duolingo. If you have a low English language score in your first semester, you will be required to take a 2-credit English course. This will be an additional 2 credits on top of your existing subjects. -
I applied for Fall intake. I had my application ready by January end. By March I recieved a decision by March. If you apply early they do get back to you early. They have rolling application review process. I choose fall as it was the biggest intake and the visa dates were better.
It took around 2 months. Steven's has a streamlined admission process. Requires 2 LOR, SOP and Transcipts. Once all documents are submitted which I did around July, I recieved a decision by August. Then I had enough time to schedule my Visa interview.
Class Schedule
- Usually classes are from 3:30 or 6. Generally, students take 1 or 2 classes a day. And a total of 3.4 classes a week.
- Some classes have 25 and some have close to 50 students. Average would be 35.
- 75% of my class is Indian students.
Faculty
- Good faculty-to-student ratio, since it is a small college. I faculty every 40 or 50 grad students.
- Teaching is mainly done through presentations. Faculty is great if you are a self-starter and show output in your work and projects.
- Not for part-time, but if you approach them, they might help you on tricks for full-time
- We have a great programme director. He makes sure he spends time with all his students.
Campus Life
- They only have 1 main campus.
- We have a library, a football field, tennis, bowling, swimming pool, gym, music rooms, theater and medical services which is not great.
- The majority of clubs and festivals are for undergrads. Grad students have professional clubs like consulting clubs, business intelligence clubs, and also cultural clubs like the Indian Students Association. They host various events, like Diwali celebrations, etc..
- Gyms and sports facilities: Everyone can book using the app.

This is the standard pay for all on campus jobs.IT is incredibly difficult to get one of these jobs. You need talk to professors and showcase yourself to get one of these jobs.
