What Students Say
Likes
- Always quick at responding to students query and try to resolve it as soon as possible.
- Clean and big campus.
- You get shuttle services in Hoboken at any time.
Dislikes
- Administrative Delays: Processes like course registration, financial aid disbursement, and transcript requests often take longer than expected, causing unnecessary stress.
- Limited Class Availability: Some high-demand courses, particularly in data science and analytics, fill up quickly, making it difficult to secure a spot without early registration.
- Parking Challenges: On-campus parking is limited and often overcrowded, making commuting a time-consuming and frustrating experience.
Course Curriculum
- So 2024 fall batch of information systems had about 70 students.
- If you understand and take interest you will not find it difficult to understand the course curriculum.
- Even the faculty provides enough resources to understand the concepts and provide quiz or assignment questions related to it so you understand and grasp the topics. It is mix of theoretical and practical for all the major topics.
Admission Experience
- Universities Applied to:
- University of California (waitlisted)
- University of Arizona (accepted)
- University of Georgia (accepted)
- Stevens institute of technology ( accepted)
- University of Illinois ( rejected)
- Pace university (rejected)
- Drexel University (rejected)
- In my opinion I think I got rejection either due to my low GRE score or else because I submitted my application late so the seats might be already full.
- I chose Stevens over other universities because they provide the course of information systems which is combination of business analytics and data analytics without any coding which was like the top thing I was looking while choosing the course and university. So it was apt to choose Stevens over other universities.
- For Stevens they have a referral code so you don’t need to pay any fees for applying to Stevens. You need to fill all your information in application and with that you require a good SOP and IELTS or any other English language proficiency certificate if you have given GRE exam it is also an additional requirement you can get a scholarship based on a good score.
- Overall, my application process was easy and smooth experience but if you get stuck somewhere you can reach out admission office through email and they reply as soon as they can to help you.
- I applied for Fall intake because the most amount of courses are available during fall intake.
- It took almost 60 to 75 days with admissions process I applied in mid of February month then I got acceptance letter by start of march, then by start of April I accepted the university and paid 500$ for confirmation purpose then after submitting bank statement and other required documents then after financial verification I got my i-20 letter by mid May.
Class Schedule
- Mostly there are minimum of 9 credits required in each semester which means 3 courses to be taken from which you need at least two courses in person, so minimum in a day you can take one class or maximum two classes.
- As each class time is of 2 and half hours. During fall most classes were from 3:30 to 9 and if you have lab then 1 hour lab after or before your class.
- They have divided the course strength of 20-25 students per class.
- As per Indian students it depends on course to course like for few course you can spot a lot of Indian students, in few course you will find combination of all the students across the world and in few classes you will hardly spot any Indians.
Faculty
- Faculty would always keep the class interactive they would discuss all the topics in depth.
- They have presentations as well as quizzes or else they make us indulge in live discussion with other students.
- Yes professors help you with the part time job if you build that kind of relationship with them till the end of course or later onwards other than that university also helps you connect with industry people for getting a job!
- The professor I admire the most is Professor Dennis Glacken who was our professor for the class of process and innovation, he always made the class interactive and would involve students in group activities to understand the topic in every class and give his honest opinion on our work and always helped the students understand the concepts. And his jolly nature was something which made me choose him as a professor for even another course in next semester!
Campus Life
- Stevens has only one campus located at Hoboken New Jersey.
- All kinds of facilities is available at Stevens and it also is open campus so it’s kind of mixed with the city it has parks, huge library and even all the buildings in the campus have separate library each, they have a gym, multiple sports court for different games all the medical services provided in the school, there is a police car as well as other emergency services always available for any major problems or incidents.
- There are multiple clubs or events organized for students since the beginning of there sessions you can enroll in the events which interest you through Stevens duck link app few of the events are free and for few they charge bare minimum.
- You can explore New Jersey and New York learn different sports and new activities or about the festivals by indulging in this kind of activities.
Part Time Jobs
- There are a lot of Indian students who secure a job as TA or GA in our university
- I have no idea about the pay range so I won’t give this information which can be false.
- Students can secure volunteer positions, catering or else event management committee can be few other job roles for students. Again I have no idea about the hourly wage.
- Maximum of 20hrs a week is allowed per week.
- It might be difficult to secure a job in the very first semester but from second semester you can definitely secure a job!
- It is recommended to get a part time job in your university campus only as it is legal. But if you want to get a illegal job outside the campus you can ask in your nearby Indian grocery stores or restaurants or ask any senior to assist you but frankly it is a bit risky and is not recommended by me but yes if you are interested you can do it but I would also like to suggest get a job after properly setting down so if you have any issues with your course curriculum then you can focus on that.
Placement
- For Stevens business school it’s on number 5th position in rank and most of the students end up securing a job after there graduation, for the past record 96-98% of my senior got a job after completing there graduation from Stevens.
- They also have industry cape-stone program for making you industry ready, they invite alumni’s from different companies who share there experience also there is COPA who help you build your resume and cover letter according to your qualifications job profile and position for which you want to apply.
- Companies like Deloitte, IBM, Google, Meta, etc are few companies where our seniors got placed!
Accommodation
- As I mentioned previously Stevens do not provide accommodation for graduate students but they do provide dorms for undergraduate students, so you need to find the accommodation on your own.
- I found accommodation from whatsapp groups, but few other options from you can get leads are from facebook or connecting to the seniors or other students from other universities living in that particular location and find an accommodation, my monthly rent is 580$ for a sharing room,
- In New Jersey you will find few houses way too old or having rats or insects so be careful while selecting the accommodation.
- For a good accommodation you pay at least 500$ for a sharing room and at least 700-800$ for a private room.
- Students prefer to live in Jersey City, jersey heights or journal square.
- From my place university is 40mins of walking distance but you get the bus after 5mins of walking distance and free university shuttles from 20mins of walking distance.
Exams
- IELTS, GRE, SOP, LOR and CV are the documents I submitted at Stevens for my application.
- Other than that they accept other English language proficiency certificate if you have.
- There are no other major requirements of documentation other than above documents and your transcript.
- No there was no interview conducted as part of my application process.
Fees
- Total fees for two semester is 65,174 $ where tuition fees is 44,494$, medical and books expense 3,200$.
- It might be different for different courses and also to keep in mind that Stevens do not provide dorm services for graduate students so you need to find a place on your own and living expenses can be 1500$ per month minimum and maximum can be up-to individual’s lifestyle and expenses.
- The university follows semester wise fees structure.
Scholarship
- Yes you can receive up-to 16000$ scholarship which can be divided in 3 or 4 semester.
- Yes a lot of students receive scholarships from Stevens.
- Sorry I don’t have idea about how many students receive scholarships each year or what is the amount but I guess it is between 11000$ to 16000$.
- Though you can mail the registrar or meet them in person for any queries regarding the scholarship.
