Should I take up IIT Kanpur Biological Sciences and Bioengineering and then try for a branch change?

Most students join IITs with the mindset of changing their branch to a more preferred one after the first year. But in reality, once you come here you will realize that branch hardly matters here. This is because most students, especially those with no specific area of interest, which seems to be your case too, tend to go for non-core jobs for which the branch does not matter. What matters is your CPI and your overall profile and achievements. Those adamant about changing their branch can avail of the facility easily. The branch change depends on 2 factors, your CGPA and the availability of seats in the branch you want to get changed into. For Civil, Material Science, Aerospace, and Physics, you need a CGPA of around 6.5–7.5 For Economics, Mathematics Scientific Computing, Chemical, and Mechanical you need a CGPA of around 7.5–8.5 For Mechanical or Electrical, you need an 8.6+ CGPA For CS, you will need nothing less than a 10 CGPA in both the semesters Honestly, it’s almost impossible to get a branch change into top branches like Mech, Electrical, or CSE. The chances are rare but worth trying. Most companies consider students from all the departments for placements. So, IIT Kanpur is a good option whether you want a branch change or not.

The course at IIT Kanpur offers a comprehensive learning experience with diverse teaching methods and strong faculty support. Semester based Mess + electricity rs 10k Tution fee = rs 1 lakh (6L family income) Rs 1L (1L < family income < 6L) Full waiver (rs 0) <1L family income Hostel + mess workers + others = rs 20k One can observe a high mess bill when changing his/her hostel. There are scholarships available from the administration side, such as MCM and similar, that will provide you with full remaining fees + pocket money to your bank if your family income is <6L and you don't have an F grade in the last two consecutive semesters. For UG students, to my knowledge, I don't think there is any job role that gives a stipend award in the college (but SURGE IITK - you can google it).

Life at IIT Kanpur

The tuition fee is 27k for SC/ST and poor students who have an income lower than 6 lpa. The overall fees for every semester is nearly 1.5 lakhs; this includes hostel and mess. We keep getting mails for scholarships. Students having a CPI over 8 can apply for them. You can have a lot of PORs (positions of responsibility). There are different clubs and societies. You can be in the fest organizing team or be a part of institute counselling services.

IIT KANPUR, THE TOUGHEST IIT

The tution fee for one year is 200000. And the registration fee will be around 34000. And mess and electricity bill will be 3500 approximately for a month. The students who belong to SC ST, low income families no need to pay tution fee. Remaining all they have to pay. There is no increase in the tution fee since many years. There are many scholarships available for students like Kotak Kenya, Foundation for excellence, NSP, SBF, FBM , relaince etc., I don't think there are campus employments for UG students . No stipend is awarded for UG students.

The college fees is very nominal and affordable by everyone further it has a scholarship option for obc, st, sc students and the tuition fees is reduced to 1/3rd or half or even zero based on the annual family income.

For a lower middle class fees is little bit on higher side like 2lakh per year only tution fees and top of that around 1lakh per year for you all expences including hostel, mess and other necessities. But There are ample scholarships available which you can avail. MCM is merit cum means scholarship currently which I'm availing . For this your parental income should be less than 5lakh and your CPI should be greater than 6.5. Then you get waiver of 100percent on tution fees and get 11k per year as a pocket money.

My College IITK

Academic pressure is more as compared to other IITs.

Fee is paid semester wise in IITs. For even sem it is 150000[excluding mess charges and electricity bill], For oddsem the fee is ?11600[excluding mess charges and electricity bill]. All SC/ST students and students will annual income less than 100000 get tuition fee waiver of 100000. All students enrolled in BS courses get inspire scholarship whereas those in Btech get MCM. Our college provides decent on-campus placements with an average package of 2000000.

The fee structure of iit kanpur have various component including tution fee , hostel fee , mess estabilshment charge , exam fee etc. So the total fee cost around in iit kanpur is approx 116000 per semester. here have various scholarship program for the different category student. the name of the scholarship program is mainly MCM (merit cum means) , inspire scholarship , and also some organization offer the scholarship under the iit kanpur so if student work hard then don't worry for the fee structure. In iit kanpur placement is good in every year in the recent year one student got the highest placement among all iit 4cr+ .around 400+ company offer the job around 1400 plus offers so approxmately alot of student placed during the placement season through campus placement.

The fee policy at IIT Kanpur is as simple as the fee policy in any other Government Institution in India. Students with SC/ST will be getting a full academic fee waiver and other students get fee waivers based on parental income. Students with no waiver have to pay around 130000 per semester. I didn't get any scholarships or financial assistance as I am in my first year and do not belong to the criteria to avail of benefits.
