Life at IIT Kanpur

We get the flexibility to choose Open Electives and Department electives so that we can study the courses we're interested in. We're taught Humanities and Social Sciences so that we learn about the world beyond the books. I don't feel like they need any changes because every professor has own way of teaching or structuring the course. We get to experience a variety of teaching methods. We have a quiz almost every week. I'd rate the average difficulty level 7/10 because it again depends on the professor

Samsung, google, BCG, etc. Stipend is usually more than 50,000/month. I do not have much details as I am more oriented towards research. Our college provides a research internship called SURGE where students from all over India enroll for the internship.

The average package this year was 26.27 LPA. Students can register around the 7th semester and can apply only once. Highest package was 4 cr/lpa. The placement percentage is around 80%. But many students plan for masters and I too plan for masters from a foreign university.

The tuition fee is 27k for SC/ST and poor students who have an income lower than 6 lpa. The overall fees for every semester is nearly 1.5 lakhs; this includes hostel and mess. We keep getting mails for scholarships. Students having a CPI over 8 can apply for them. You can have a lot of PORs (positions of responsibility). There are different clubs and societies. You can be in the fest organizing team or be a part of institute counselling services.

The availability of books is excellent. Classrooms are equipped with smartboards and ACs. You can get involved into a variety of sports and the campus has facilities for all of them. Prayas in an initiative to teach the underprivileged children in and around the campus. It gives the students an idea of the real world.

Facilities - bed, tubelight, bulb, cupboard, study table, drinking water, common restrooms. Meal quality - 8/10 Registration is done by the help of student guide and it does not take more than a few hours. Hall 6

The seats were allocated according to JEE advance rank and our priority list made during the counselling. All of the information is shared by email once you qualify the exam. Also, a student guide is alloted to us who helps us during the admission process. There is a reservation on the basis of caste and gender. It is easier for students belonging to lower caste and girls to get admission into the college The entrance exam is one of the hardest exams of India. The process is very easy and can be done online.

Faculty-to-student ratio depends on the branch. In our branch we have 50 students and our classes are very interactive. The faculties are well educated and most of them have done PhD from foreign universities. Some teachers are extremely frank and understand the needs of the students. They really help out the students.

No GD or interview was done. We get the admission on the basis of JEE ranks. I prepared for them from an online coaching called unacademy. My father also helped me to study physics, chemistry and maths.
