Life @ IITK

The curriculum is comprehensive and research driven, which influenced my choice. It builds strong technical foundations, useful for academia but less for industry. Exams are tough but fair. More practical exposure and updated teaching methods are needed for real-world prep.

IITK offers excellent intern opportunities through its career development cell. Top recuiter includes: 1) Google, Microsoft, Samsung - Roles: Software developer, Data analyst. 2) Tata steel- Core engineering roles 3) JP morgan- Finance and quant roles. 4) Zomato, swiggy, flipkart - Product management interns. Stipends range from 20000-150000 per month, depending on the company and profile. A mecahnical student at Tata Steel worked on process improvement, resulting in an actual plant level implementation.

Placements at IIT Kanpur are excellent, especially in core engineering, software, analytics, and finance sectors . Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester(B.Tech). Top recuiters include Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Texas Instruments , startups and PSUs like IOCL and ISRO also visit. Highest package was around 1.5Cr/annum, while avg package for mechanical is 18Lpa. Over 84% of eligible students get placed . After my degree , I plan to pursue higher studies .

The yearly fee structure at IIT Kanpur for the General category(B.Tech) was approx. 2.3-2.5lakhs per year during my batch, including tuition fees, hostel charges, and other fees like registration, development, and medical. A one time Caution deposit(10000rs) is refendable. The fee has gradually rise over the years. For SC,ST students tuition fees are fully waived.

Campus life at IITK is dynamic and diverse, offering a perfect balance of academics and social engagement. Following fests takes place in our clg: 1) Antaragini(Cultural fest) 2) Udgosh (Sports fest) 3) Techkriti (Tecanical fest) PK Kelkar library is very beautiful and has a lot of useful books available. Classrooms are equipped with Projecters,smart boards, and high speed internet. IITK offers excellent sports facilities including games like cricket, football, hockey , volleyball and many more. A lot of clubs are there like robotics, programming, design, dance, drama , music and many more. Interested students can join any of them.

Students get tripple sharing rooms in their first year to interact with other students. Onwards they get single room. Room have beds, chairs, table, fan , cupboards. Every hostel has its fixed menu for each month. Food quality is average but hygenic. Hostel allocation is part of admission process. Hostel cost is approx 18-19k per semester. NO, I have not rented a room, I got hostel.

I chose IIT Kanpur over othe rcooleges because of its academic reputation, research opportunities and strong alumini network. I was also able to get seats in other IITs but I preferred IIT Kanpur due to its legacy . I didn't face rejections, but did not opt for some colleges even after qualifying due to lower research output, weaker placement stats. Admission process for B.Tech at IITK is through JEE Advanced exam, after qualifying JEE Mains. You also neend to satisfy cutoff for branches. Admissions are handled by JoSAA Counselling.

Faculty to student ratio is quiet high in iits. But there are TAs(PG,Phd students) for doubt solving. Teacher also solve doubts after class is over. We have 1 midsem and 1 endsem per course and some quizzes in each semester.

Nightlife at IITK is another wonderfull experience. Students can roam in campus anywhere and do nightouts and feel relax. Hostel and campus gates are open 24/7. PK Kelkar library remains open till midnight and during exam season, it remains open 24/7. Gym closes by 9 PM. Hall Canteens stay open till 2 AM. People hangout spots are CCD(Cafe Coffee Day) and OAT(Open Air Theater) inside campus. Outside campus you can visit JK Temple and Iskon temple.
