Likes
- First thing I liked is obviously the campus, it is beautiful enough to give you natural dopamine and it is big enough for a whole night walk
- The second thing is the academic infrastructure, classrooms, library and Labs all have AC and beautifully maintained.
- The security guard, they are most liked facility in IIT Kanpur, the way they give their best for the our security, the way they give their best, you will be felt very special
Dislikes
- Electricity bills, when you will get monthly mess+electricity bill, sometimes it cross ₹1000 per month per person in a hostal. Avg ₹700/month/person
- Water shortage in hostels, 'sometimes' you need to walk(Max. 250m) to different block to bring water
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is very much in order therefore you wouldn't find anything irrelevant. Since BSBE is all about engineering in biology, many times we connect the course topic to our real life things, wheather it is about food or any organ function and its health. When it comes to examinations, difficulty level varies from courses to courses(easy, moderate and hard all varieties). In case of exam timings, at the worst case, your one exam will end at 8pm night and the next start at 8am morning.
Internships Opportunities
SDE (Software) - Amazon, Google, Optiver, Zomato etc.( DSA, Web Dev projects) Product Management - Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart etc.(Good 3rd year POR, Core team members) Consultant - Accenture, McKenzie, BCG, TATA(good 3rd year POR + excellent academics and great achievements + case studies) BSBE core - sometimes Dr. Reddy (Research projects and good in academics)
Fees and Financial Aid
Semester based Mess + electricity rs 10k Tution fee = rs 1 lakh (6L family income) Rs 1L (1L < family income < 6L) Full waiver (rs 0) <1L family income Hostel + mess workers + others = rs 20k One can observe a high mess bill when changing his/her hostel. There are scholarships available from the administration side, such as MCM and similar, that will provide you with full remaining fees + pocket money to your bank if your family income is <6L and you don't have an F grade in the last two consecutive semesters. For UG students, to my knowledge, I don't think there is any job role that gives a stipend award in the college (but SURGE IITK - you can google it).
Campus Life
Everything's great here. I have been involved in many clubs, group, festivals including prakriti that works to spread environment, climate change awareness and Fine arts club you one can explore news types of arts and then Antaragni & Techkriti that are cultural and technical fests respectively. Administration always support you in all this. These stuff teach something new in one's life but maintaining balance between academics and extra curricular is crucial.
Admission
First, one need to clear JEE main cutoff (88 %ile general) , (67%ile OBC), (63%ile GNL Ews) to appear for JEE advanced. Because I got reservation benifit for OBC, 2.6k OBC AIR rank. All the admission process before comming to IIT is done on JoSSA website(including application form, first sem fees etc.) What I didn't like is that for first semester fee, you need to pay JoSSA and then Jossa will transfer to college... It was a bit confusing it the start but then become normal.
Faculty
All the BSBE professors are friendly hence they are very much approachable, also they have very deep knowledge in their field of research. If someone is very 'padhaku' type student then they'll find interest in it but others may feel boaring sometimes. Most of the professors give you good grading and few can disappoint you too.
