Eligibility Criteria

A Pass in 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of: (i) Forty ve per cent (45%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/ EWS categories; and (ii) Forty per cent (40%) of marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

2. Candidates who may be appearing for their qualifying examination in March/ April 2025 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2025 examination. Their admission shall remain provisional until the submission of the certicate and the marksheet, indicating that the candidate has met the stipulated eligibility criteria, on or before September 30, 2025.

3. There is no upper age limit for the UG Programme.

4. NLSIU reintroduced Admissions for International Students from the Academic Year 2024-25 by way of supernumerary seats in the UG Programme. Foreign Nationals who have completed at least 10 years of education outside India shall be eligible for such supernumerary seats. A separate examination called the ‘NLSAT-International’ is conducted for these supernumerary seats. The NLSAT-International is conducted for all on-campus degree programmes at NLSIU. NLSIU: An Insider View

Fees and Financial Aid:

The course fees for my first year were 4,13,500 rupees. It includes mess charges of 67,500, one-time admission fees of 12,000, tuition and facilities fees of 2,19,000, hostel charges of 45,000, and a refundable deposit of 20,000. In the following years, I'll be paying 3,93,000 rupees. I have not availed any reservation or financial aid, however, the university financial aid committee offers grants on a need basis, the grant varies based on needs. Everyone pays the same fees, and there is no compensation for students from different categories.

I really liked the structure of courses throughout the five years. They are also rigorous with constant connections to study material, projects and critical end term exams. The professors are highly trained with well-equipped knowledge of the law.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed. The students are given the course outline at the beginning of the course. The faculty for most of the subjects is quite good. Apart from that, there are several courses regularly offered by an expert in the field. This helps us imbibe practical knowledge apart from theoretical one.

Is there any age limit for pursuing a BA LLB 5-year course in NLSIU, Bangalore?

After doing some research online, I found out that there is no age limit in getting admission to this course.

There are two options to pursue the course:

BA LLB (5-year course)
LLB (3-year course)

For a three-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45 to 60%. For a five-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45% to 60% for the general category and 40 % for the reserved categories.

Candidates will be selected based on their merit. This will include the marks obtained in the CLAT exam.

Which is better, a BBA MBA from IIM Indore or a BA LLB from NLSIU?

This is entirely a matter of your choice or preference. Both these courses have a very different offering from each other in terms of learning. One is a double bachelor (BA LLB) and the other is a Bachelor's + Master’s degree (BBA-MBA). You can choose one or the other on the basis of your interest. If you are someone who wants to pursue a career in law and be a lawyer, you should pick the course from NLSIU, and if the Management and business side of things is where your interests lie, the clear choice is IIM Indore.

If placements are what concern you, IIM Indore is the winner as compared to NLSIU. IIM Indore’s Integrated Programme in Management has an average pay package of about 20 lakhs per annum which is way more than NLSIU’s median at 12 lakhs per annum for a BA LLB graduate. Along with this, IIM Indore also offers opportunities to be placed abroad, and those who get placed abroad can get a package up to 90 LPA, on the other hand, NLSIU doesn’t have much scope for placements abroad and the few that take place don’t garner more than a 20L PA package.
