Fees and Financial Aid:

The course fees for my first year were 4,13,500 rupees. It includes mess charges of 67,500, one-time admission fees of 12,000, tuition and facilities fees of 2,19,000, hostel charges of 45,000, and a refundable deposit of 20,000. In the following years, I'll be paying 3,93,000 rupees. I have not availed any reservation or financial aid, however, the university financial aid committee offers grants on a need basis, the grant varies based on needs. Everyone pays the same fees, and there is no compensation for students from different categories.

The tuition fees for the batch of 2025 amount to around 1.92 lakh while the rest go towards the hostel and mess facilities. Other than this, the lunch in the hostel mess is charged separately @4500 per trimester. The college provides financial aid to the students and also helps them to get the national scholarships. The total fees I had to pay for the first year was 3,07,000 (including admission fees). Apart from this, each year the fee is hiked by about 5000. There's a scholarship available, totally based on means. And the campus placements are good. If you are able to survive 5 years, you're sure to get a job.

This university possess a different course curriculum when compared to other law schools in the country. It uses a trimester system where 4 courses are taken up in a span of 3 months. As we faced a zero year situation due to the pandemic, we were given 5 courses for our first Trimester. We had courses like Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Legal Methods and Torts. We possess faculty who are extremely insightful and are luminaries at their respective courses. We have a mix of young and experienced professors which help us in having fruitful discussions during the class.

NLSIU: 2 Answered Questions

Is there any age limit for pursuing a BA LLB 5-year course in NLSIU, Bangalore?

Maya AgarwalStudied at NLSIU Bangalore (2019)

After doing some research online, I found out that there is no age limit in getting admission to this course.

There are two options to pursue the course:

  • BA LLB (5-year course)
  • LLB (3-year course)

For a three-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45 to 60%. For a five-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45% to 60% for the general category and 40 % for the reserved categories.

Candidates will be selected based on their merit. This will include the marks obtained in the CLAT exam.

Which is better, a BBA MBA from IIM Indore or a BA LLB from NLSIU?

Kirti AdarshBA LLB from NLSIU

This is entirely a matter of your choice or preference. Both these courses have a very different offering from each other in terms of learning. One is a double bachelor (BA LLB) and the other is a Bachelor's + Master’s degree (BBA-MBA). You can choose one or the other on the basis of your interest. If you are someone who wants to pursue a career in law and be a lawyer, you should pick the course from NLSIU, and if the Management and business side of things is where your interests lie, the clear choice is IIM Indore.

If placements are what concern you, IIM Indore is the winner as compared to NLSIU. IIM Indore’s Integrated Programme in Management has an average pay package of about 20 lakhs per annum which is way more than NLSIU’s median at 12 lakhs per annum for a BA LLB graduate. Along with this, IIM Indore also offers opportunities to be placed abroad, and those who get placed abroad can get a package up to 90 LPA, on the other hand, NLSIU doesn’t have much scope for placements abroad and the few that take place don’t garner more than a 20L PA package.
