Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is made on a year to year basis, readings and cases are chosen by the professors before the course starts. Being constantly updated, it usually is exactly what you require and would apply in the outside world. Improvements could be reducing the weightage of reading components, which currently is majority of the course outline. One exam usually at the end of the trimester (3 months) and sometimes a midterm in between depending on the course

Course Curriculum Overview:

The courses are divided into four courses every trimester. We have exams at the end of the trimester. The courses are well structured to help the student know every aspect of that area of law. The same also includes topics and discussions on recent issues that have arisen in that area of law. The class is pushed towards critical thinking of the law i.e. to think the 'why' question and not just the 'what' question. This way when we go out for internships, we are able to produce better results and work in a better manner as compared to others.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course for three reasons: read, write and speak. The first two I love and the last I wanted to improve. Law as a career gives you opportunity to learn these skills. The faculty student ratio is 1:60. Our batch of 180 is divided among three sections. It has trimester system, which means you'll have exam every three months.

Relatively low faculty student ratio. One teacher for every 80 student batch. Faculty are all quite qualified. However some of the subjects have become outdated in the teaching methods. Some subjects have fallen prey to mere rote learning. Midterm exams and endterm exams present in every 3-month trimester. Some subjects have very high failure rates, such as 66% failure

Course Curriculum Overview:

This university possess a different course curriculum when compared to other law schools in the country. It uses a trimester system where 4 courses are taken up in a span of 3 months. As we faced a zero year situation due to the pandemic, we were given 5 courses for our first Trimester. We had courses like Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Legal Methods and Torts. We possess faculty who are extremely insightful and are luminaries at their respective courses. We have a mix of young and experienced professors which help us in having fruitful discussions during the class.

The faculty is highly experienced and helpful. The curricular is innovative and up to date. A Socratic method is used to teach in the class along with the specially curated reading material so as to make the course curricular relevant to the changing times. The focus is on the practical application and the professional experience. Due to the system of electives students, we also have an opportunity to choose their subjects and faculty which is not possible in other law colleges.

NLSIU Bangalore: 2 Answered Questions

Is there any age limit for pursuing a BA LLB 5-year course in NLSIU, Bangalore?

Maya AgarwalStudied at NLSIU Bangalore (2019)

After doing some research online, I found out that there is no age limit in getting admission to this course.

There are two options to pursue the course:

  • BA LLB (5-year course)
  • LLB (3-year course)

For a three-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45 to 60%. For a five-year course, the minimum eligibility is 45% to 60% for the general category and 40 % for the reserved categories.

Candidates will be selected based on their merit. This will include the marks obtained in the CLAT exam.

Which is better, a BBA MBA from IIM Indore or a BA LLB from NLSIU?

Kirti AdarshBA LLB from NLSIU

This is entirely a matter of your choice or preference. Both these courses have a very different offering from each other in terms of learning. One is a double bachelor (BA LLB) and the other is a Bachelor's + Master’s degree (BBA-MBA). You can choose one or the other on the basis of your interest. If you are someone who wants to pursue a career in law and be a lawyer, you should pick the course from NLSIU, and if the Management and business side of things is where your interests lie, the clear choice is IIM Indore.

If placements are what concern you, IIM Indore is the winner as compared to NLSIU. IIM Indore’s Integrated Programme in Management has an average pay package of about 20 lakhs per annum which is way more than NLSIU’s median at 12 lakhs per annum for a BA LLB graduate. Along with this, IIM Indore also offers opportunities to be placed abroad, and those who get placed abroad can get a package up to 90 LPA, on the other hand, NLSIU doesn’t have much scope for placements abroad and the few that take place don’t garner more than a 20L PA package.
