NLSIU Hostels: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 29 Reviews

The college provides separate hostels for boys and girls, featuring facilities like newspapers, magazines, and laundry services. There are 5 boys' hostels (3 triple-sharing, 2 double-sharing) and 4 girls' hostels (mostly double-sharing with some triple-sharing). Due to increased student intake, the college has partnered with a PG located 4 km away to accommodate overflow, which poses travel challenges.

Two messes cater separately to boys and girls, offering a varied menu, although the food quality is inconsistent. Hostel facilities include a bed, mattress, table, chair, common induction, and fridge. The yearly hostel fee is approximately 36k. The infrastructure is modern with 24/7 electricity and hot water. Accommodations are allocated based on need, and the hostel and mess charges are affordable.

Hostel Facilities:

In hostel rooms you are provided with a bed, a cot, table and chair and cupboard and you share your room with two others basically every room is a triple occupancy. The quality and hygiene of the food here is maintained very nicely though the taste of the food is a different thing entirely it might not be to many peoples liking. When your filling the admission forms and completing that process your already allotted a hostel during that point of time for every undergraduate students it's compulsory to live on campus. Hostels are a little expensive but they have very well maintained rooms. The University is in Nagarbhavi region of Bangalore you will be able to find several PG and rented rooms around as there are several other University adjacent to National Law School and the area comes under the city itself.

Hostel facilities are great. Newly built buildings, 24/7 electricity, hot water etc. Registration for hostel happens inside the campus once admissions are over. The hostels are very affordable, paying around 36k for a year.

Hostel Facilities:

There are 5 boys' hostels, three of which are triple sharing and 2 are double sharing. There are 4 girls' hostels, mostly double-sharing and some triple sharing. The college also has to tie up with a PG outside to accommodate students from new incoming batches due to a larger intake of students but a shortage of residential buildings. This is one of the drawbacks of the residential life. Students have to travel back and forth to the PG located around 4km from the campus every day. There are 2 messes, one for the girls and one for the boys. The quality of the food is okay but not so great. On some days, the food is decent but on some days, the menu has combinations of food that nobody likes. Feedback is taken every now and then for the menu and is revised to an extent. Improvements could be made to the infrastructure of hostels and more spaces for residential life. In the hostels, we have a bed, mattress, table, and chair provided. We also have a common induction and fridge for residents of each hostel.

The basic facilities such as the Wi-Fi and sports are available in the college, but they are not up to the mark or maintained efficiently. The best infrastructure resource on the campus is the library which houses all the books that may be required in the legal and the social science research. The canteen food is of the average quality. Other affordable meal options are also available. Most importantly the campus infrastructure is managed by the students themselves.

NLSIU: 3 Answered Questions

Are the rooms at NLSIU and NALSAR good?

Alok TripathiB.A LLB from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2024)

The rooms at NLSIU hostel are more or less okay. It is a government-backed institute and we cannot compare it with NALSAR.

The rooms at NLSIU can accommodate three students. They are not very spacious and you might find it difficult to share the rooms. There is no need for AC as the weather in Hyderabad is comfortable. There are coolers for the hotter months.

In the case of NALSAR, you will be sharing your room with another student for the first three years. From the 4th year onwards, you will have your own room. The rooms are not that spacious. With the construction of new hostel buildings, the problem of overcrowding is being dealt with.

Is it compulsory to stay in a hostel at NALSAR and NLSIU?

Sakshi Gupta
Rakesh TodiStudied at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, graduated in 2020

For the students of the first year who are studying in NLSIU, it is compulsory for them to stay in hostels. However, the option of going home on weekends will always be open for them. Just fill up a permission form and you are good to go. Someone I know used to be a student of NLSIU and she and her batchmates used to visit their families this way.

If you live in Bangalore, you can travel from your house to the institute without asking for permission.

After you have completed your first year you will be able to live off-campus. Knowing the busy traffic of Bangalore, it may get difficult to travel to and from the campus.

This is not allowed in NALSAR, though. You will have to spend the entirety of your course in the hostels.

Divya BatraStudied at National Law School of India University, Bangalore

If you are staying in a hostel in NLSIU Bangalore then you should take the things that are required by you daily as a part of your utilities. You should either buy them from a nearby market or bring them from your home.

Following are a few list of items that you must carry with you:

  • Carry a set of clothes containing a mix of formal and informal ones.
  • You should have a laptop with a multi-plug point.
  • Some clean bedsheets, pillow covers, single-window curtains, and towels are also required.
  • Basic set of cutlery that includes a plate, knife, spoon, bowls, etc.
  • Table lamp and kettle are extra utilities but they are quite useful
  • Mosquito Net

Thus, we can conclude that you must get the basic utilities along with you once you are going to stay in a hostel.
