Candidates with following qualification shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Program of the Institute: Possessing M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Sc. (Engg.) / M.Arch. / M.Pharm. / M.S.(Pharm.)(only from NIPERs)/ M.Sc.(Pharm) / M. Plan./ M.Sc./ MCA / MBA/M.A. or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/Institute with minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a ten point scale in the qualifying examination are eligible to apply for admission in the relevant departments. OR Possessing B.Tech./B.E./B.Sc. Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra offers Ph.D. in sixteen specializations.

For admission to the Ph.D. program, candidate must be a holder of Master’s degree in the same/related field of research with a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 in the qualifying degree examination.

While the candidates who wish to pursue Ph.D. after B.Tech. / B.E. / B.Sc. (Engg.)/ B.Pharm / B.Arch. or equivalent degree must be GATE qualified (80+) and have a minimum of 70% marks in the qualifying degree examination. Candidate with ten-year of experience with good research credentials are eligible for admission.

Selection of the candidates is in two phases. In the first phase, candidates will be shortlisted for the selection rounds based on academic profile and work experience, In the second phase, candidates will have to attend the General aptitude test and Personal Interview conducted by the institute. 

The test shall contain 50 questions from analytical ability, logical reasoning and English Language. And 50 questions from the related subject.
