- UG Courses: Eligibility for admission requires Class 12 (10+2) completed with at least 50% aggregate from a recognized board keeping in mind that most of the UG programs admission will be based on merit in the qualifying examination.
- PG Courses: Eligibility is achieved with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution with a minimum of 50% marks. Like UG courses, most of the selection will be based on merit.
- Entrance-based Courses: Applicants for the MBA program must have taken the CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or YBNUET (university entrance exam) where applicable. BBA and PhD will require YBNUET or personal interview depending on the program taken.

YBN University Ranchi offers university funded scholarships that aim to fully recognize excellence in academic performance, extraordinary talent and to assist students who are in real need of some financial support. All of these scholarships are distinct from government schemes; all scholarship matters will be decided at the university level.

- Merit Scholarships: These are awarded to students based on their past academic performance on completion of a qualifying examination (such as 10+2 for UG and graduation for PG) not just the final grades. Those who achieve high percentile scores (for example, 95+% for UG and 90+% for PG) are entitled to tuition fee waivers that fall under tier 1, and students who are able to get just below these scores will have some entitlement to less significant tuition fee waivers in respective tiers. There are also scholarships for special merit namely for the toppers of central and state boards, etc.
- Entrance/Competitive Exam Scholarships: These are awarded to students who achieve top scores in competitive entrance tests which are given national status. For example, the following tests are offered: JEE (Mains), NEET, CUET, CAT, MAT, GATE, GPAT, or (university exam) YBNNEST. In addition, students going into MBA programs can receive scholarships based on experience in the workplace or performance on competitive entrance tests.
- Scholarships offered by Sports, Innovation, and Talent: These categories are provided for achievements attained through exemplary performances in sports (state/national/international level), cultural activities, innovation, startups or technology promotion, social service into the community, or bravery, and will not be limited to only the tuition fee waivers explained above.
- Financial Aid: Students are also considered who are in a financially indisposed position, orphans, persons with disability, and dependents of defense and central armed police forces, as it is normal in these cases to waive tuition fees between 25-50%.
