INSIGHTS OF BIT MESRA

Placement Experience:

From 7th sem onwards students are able to face placements. Comapnies such as ZS, Deloite AB in bev microsoft visa comes here and normally takes 1-3 students. The highest package may vary from 40-50 lakhs and average is 4-5 lakhs. Internships opportunities are quite low here. In chemical enginnering only till now out of 120 students 20-30 got placed including out of campus palcements. I am hoping to do mba after pursuing the degree as there is less comapny visit for core branches.

A Good College!!!

Placement Experience:

The fourth-year students are eligible for campus placements with a good CGPA (8+ is safe, 7+ is also allowed). The placement companies include big names like Google, Microsoft, Visa, etc. The average package from ECE goes around 13 LPA, with a median of around 11 LPA. Around 70% of the registered students get placed. As for me, I am yet to decide my future endeavours.

Placement Experience:

At the end of 6th semester student get internship offers and become eligible for placement. Around 150 companies visit every year and 400 to 500 offers are made it also depends on year but you can find recent datas on College website. It has a very strong aluminium network as this is an older college around 70 years old. Many companies like Amazon,Flipkart ,Microsoft ,deloit ,Accenture,L&T ,Tata steel,TCS ,coal India,TVS, mahindra, tata motors visit here. Once you obtain degree from this college there is a very high chance that you will get placed around 10 lpa if you are a good student. However unfortunately you don't get placed you can also try off campus else you need to prepare for other government competitive exams. Around 70-80% get placee every year. How ever this number is high in case of core branches like mechanical chemical production and industrial because this college is located in Ranchi Jharkhand where tech companies visit less and core companies visit more. CS is considered best branch but the number of students is also high in these branches.

You’ll receive ample placement opportunities at BIT Mesra, given that you understand electronics well. You may consider joining Robolution, which will give you an edge over the others. Qualcomm visits the ECE department with good offers. A few years back, it appointed 4-5 ECE students for a package of 15 LPA. If you are willing to put in the extra effort and learn coding, you may get into good IT companies. Some of them being- Microsoft, Amazon and IBM.

Academically, the ECE department of BIT Mesra isn’t the most ideal choice. This is because the department faculty is strict, and the curriculum is tough. If you couldn’t get CSE at BIT Mesra, you can try for IT instead of ECE. The ECE branch requires a lot of effort and time, which can be overwhelming.

I can only talk about the CS/IT department of BIT Mesra.

The M.Tech curriculum is pretty good, but teaching quality is lacking. The department faculty seems uninterested in teaching. This may be due to lack of resources and a poor administration, which annoys them as much as it does the students. Almost zero importance is given to coding for PG students. The college seriously lacks a research culture, but if you are adamant on pursuing research, you may find good guidance nonetheless.

The location of BIT Mesra is unfavorable for placements. Despite this, the department performs really well during placement season. Big shot firms like Microsoft and Goldman Sachs recruit M.Tech students from the department. The highest package for M.Techs is around 40 LPA. Getting placed is totally your responsibility. The college’s work is simply to invite top companies for campus placements, which in this case, it does.

As far as the CS/IT department of BIT Mesra is concerned, it offers decent academics and good placements. Moreover, it's not necessary that things are any better at other institutions.

But for major firms, only the top 5 students of each branch from every extension campus are allowed to apply. If your resume and grades are good, you’ll get ample opportunities of getting placed from the main campus.

Moreover, you’ll have a BIT Mesra degree, so you can also look for off campus offers. To sit for top firms during the main campus placements, you must score 9 CGPA and above, make good projects, and apply for good internships. By doing so, you’ll open up your chances of getting good job offers.

What is the scope in chemical engineering at BIT, Mesra in terms of placement and package?

Though BIT Mesra is a highly renowned engineering college, I would advise against joining any other branch at it except for CS/IT. The other branches are not very good placement-wise, especially when BIT Mesra is such a renowned college.

Core companies do visit the Chemical department for placements, recruiting a decent number of students each year. Apart from them, few Analytics firms and IT companies also recruit from the department. These IT companies include Infosys and Cognizant. Some of the department students clear exams like CAT or GATE, and as a result, go for higher studies/PSUs.

In 2022, from B.Tech Chemical Engineering (excluding Plastic and Polymer), 34 out of 45 students were successfully placed from the campus (43 were eligible for placements). The lowest CTC was 4 LPA, the average CTC was 8.44 LPA, the median CTC was 8.10 LPA, and the highest CTC was 12.84 LPA during these placements.

Thus, BIT Mesra is not a very good choice for Chemical Engineering in terms of placements.

He told me that the training and placement cell at BIT Mesra works hard throughout the year to make sure that students are offered top placements from the campus. Despite its remote location, BIT Mesra brings in top IT companies for campus placements. Almost all the top IT companies, barring a few, visit the BIT Mesra campus for placements.

Twitter and LinkedIn started hiring from Indian campuses quite recently, in 2013. Initially, these two hired students from top institutions like IIT Bombay, which boasts of having the best CSE undergraduates in the country. Other than that, most hirings were done through off-campus processes.

At present, however, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, and LinkedIn are some of the top brands that visit the BIT Mesra campus for placements. My brother is a student at the Jaipur extension campus of BIT Mesra. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of the Jaipur extension campus in particular, and all the extension campuses in general-

Disadvantages-

The infrastructure is poor and not at par with the BIT Mesra main campus.
The Jaipur campus offers limited courses and so, networking opportunities are limited.
The Jaipur campus offers no hostel facility. However, you will be provided a list of PGs and Flats available near the campus as a form of assistance.

Advantages -

You will get the BIT Mesra tag on your degree. This tag will help you for placements and higher studies. The faculty at the Jaipur campus is highly qualified.
For placements, you can visit the BIT Mesra main campus and compete head-on with the main campus students. The Jaipur campus’s small batch allows for easier and better placements. Companies like Samsung R&D, SAP Labs, Amdocs, Verizon, etc. and also startups, offer good packages during placements. Core companies visit the campus every year for recruitments.
The coding culture at BIT Jaipur is good and the students actively participate in ACM-ICPC and GSOC.
BIT Jaipur students are doing really well in GATE and CAT. Many students from this institution receive offers for an MS from reputed foreign universities like Cornell, University of California San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, etc.
The BIT Mesra Jaipur branch is located in Malviya Nagar. It is a safe area with plenty of industries for good internship opportunities.
