University of Liverpool Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants meet Liverpool’s entry bar with a recognised bachelor’s degree, an English test score, and attested transcripts. Full document checklists and waiver detail sit in the Admissions silo.

University of Liverpool Postgraduate Requirements

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 6.0/10 for programmes requiring a UK 2:1 (MBA, Marketing, Management); 50% or CGPA 5.5/10 for programmes accepting a UK 2:2 (Computer Science, Finance).
  • English (IELTS): 6.5 overall with no component below 5.5 for most masters; 6.5 overall with 6.0 minimum for research-heavy MScs; 7.0 overall with 6.5 minimum for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Investigative or Forensic Psychology.
  • Other tests: TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English, Trinity College London and Duolingo English Test are accepted; TOEFL Home Edition is explicitly excluded. Verify component minimums at the official English tests page.
  • MBA add-on: Minimum 3 years professional or managerial work experience; GMAT encouraged but not mandatory.

University of Liverpool Undergraduate Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 with 75% to 85% for standard programmes; Class 12 with 85%+ for Law, Medicine and Veterinary Science.
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 minimum for standard UG; IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 minimum for competitive programmes; IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 minimum for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science.
  • Application route: UCAS with personal statement and one academic reference.

Key insight: The university accepts 75% in Class 12 English (CBSE) or 80% (State Boards) in place of IELTS for many postgraduate courses requiring the equivalent of IELTS 6.5. The waiver does not extend to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, or Psychology programmes.

University of Liverpool Acceptance Rate 2027

The University of Liverpool does not publish an official overall acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place it at 40% (estimated) for international applicants, with tighter competition on Medicine, Veterinary Science, LLB Law, Data Science and the Liverpool MBA. Applicants matching subject qualifications with the target masters typically clear the academic bar on first review.

Most rejections trace to incomplete applications, English-test shortfalls, or a mismatched degree background rather than raw grade cut-offs. Strong bachelor’s grades of 60% or above and matching subject qualifications typically clear the academic bar.

Reality check: A 40% overall figure hides significant programme-level variance. Data Science and Business Analytics run tighter due to application volume, while niche MScs in Archaeology or Physical Sciences admit almost every qualifying applicant. Match your undergraduate discipline to the target masters for the best odds.

University of Liverpool Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The single-site campus sits at the eastern edge of Liverpool city centre, within a 15-minute walk of the shopping quarter, waterfront and student halls.

  • Location and transport: Walking distance to Liverpool ONE retail district, Lime Street rail station, and the Albert Dock waterfront. Two Liverpool John Lennon Airport bus routes (86A and 500) stop within campus radius.
  • Housing: University Halls guaranteed for first-year international students who confirm by 30 June. Private house-shares in Kensington and Wavertree run £90 to £130 per week.
  • Notable facility: The Sydney Jones Library holds one of Britain’s largest engineering collections, with 24-hour study spaces during exam terms.
  • Indian community: Active Liverpool Guild Indian Society running Diwali, Holi, and Republic Day events. South-Asian grocery stores line Smithdown Road, with several Indian restaurants close to campus.

What Indian students say: The city feels smaller and cheaper than London or Manchester, so Indian students often finish the year with rent savings that fund a Schengen trip. The main pain point is the January weather when daylight ends by 4pm.

On subject tables, Liverpool ranks in the QS top 50 for Veterinary Science and Anatomy and Physiology (QS 2026), #28 for Management and #32 for Business Administration (ARWU 2025), and #85 for Medical and Health (THE 2026). Collegedunia Study Abroad rates it #20 among UK universities, #58 for Healthcare and Medicine, #105 for Engineering, and #110 for Law. It also placed #88 globally on the THE Impact Rankings 2025 for sustainability contribution.

Key insight: Liverpool’s 51-place QS climb from #190 (2023) to #139 (2027) is one of the fastest in the Russell Group over the same window. This improves Graduate Route visa signalling with UK employers and strengthens loan-scheme eligibility for Indian applicants at SBI, HDFC Credila, and Avanse.

University of Liverpool Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

The Liverpool Careers and Employability Service supports every masters graduate for up to two years post-degree. The service works alongside the two-year UK Graduate Route visa, which opens unrestricted work rights across the UK for Indian graduates after course completion.

  • Median MSc starting salary: £26,000 to £32,000 (₹33.67 Lakh to ₹41.44 Lakh); market median for UK Russell Group masters roles.
  • Employment rate: 88% of Liverpool graduates in employment or further study within 15 months of graduation, as per HESA Graduate Outcomes.
  • Sectors recruiting Indian graduates: Financial services, IT and data consulting, healthcare, pharmaceutical research, and academic research; representative employers include Barclays, Deloitte, Jaguar Land Rover, GSK, and Unilever.
  • Careers support: Dedicated international team, on-campus recruitment fairs each October, mock interviews, CV workshops, and mentoring from over 12,000 Liverpool alumni based in India.
  • Post-study work: UK Graduate Route visa allows two years of unrestricted work after masters completion, extending to three years for PhD graduates.

Insider note: Indian masters graduates targeting UK-based roles report the highest conversion in the Manchester and London commuter belts. Applying to graduate schemes at Barclays, Deloitte, and Jaguar Land Rover before December of the study year is the standard timeline.

University of Liverpool vs Peer Universities

The peer set below covers Russell Group members Indian students commonly shortlist against Liverpool, benchmarked on QS 2027 ranking, average PG fee load, and student positioning.

UniversityQS World 2027Collegedunia Study AbroadAvg Annual PG Fee (GBP / ₹ Lakh)Differentiator
University of Liverpool#139#96 global, #20 UK£26,500 to £35,500 / 34.32 to 45.97 LakhAutomatic India-linked scholarships; fastest QS climb in Russell Group
University of Sheffield#105 (estimated)NA£28,000 to £33,000 / 36.26 to 42.74 Lakh (market median)Stronger overall QS; larger engineering intake
University of Nottingham#97 (estimated)NA£27,500 to £33,000 / 35.61 to 42.74 Lakh (market median)Malaysia and China branch campuses for exchange
University of Leeds#82 (estimated)NA£30,000 to £34,000 / 38.85 to 44.03 Lakh (market median)Larger business school; stronger media and design programmes

Key insight: Liverpool’s total masters investment runs 10% to 15% below peer Russell Group cities like Leeds and Manchester, mostly through cheaper accommodation. Liverpool is also the only member of this peer set with an automatic India-linked tuition discount at offer stage.

Liverpool’s stand-out story is the pace of ranking improvement — moving from QS #190 (2023) to #139 (2027) outpaces every peer above. For Indian applicants budgeting on total cost, its fee band and Liverpool living costs both run below equivalents in London, Manchester, or Leeds.

The University of Liverpool suits Indian students chasing Russell Group prestige with a total masters budget around £47,500 (₹61.51 Lakh) including living costs. Median MSc starting salary of £29,000 (₹37.55 Lakh) recovers most of the investment inside four years, and Indian offer-holders receive automatic tuition discounts layered with the two-year Graduate Route post-study visa.

It is not the right pick for applicants set on the very top QS tier or an elite MBA name, where Manchester or Warwick sit higher on both at proportionally higher fees. Applicants weighing rank against fee compression should shortlist the University of Sheffield as the closest Russell Group alternative in the north of England.

University of Liverpool FAQs

Ques. What is the University of Liverpool’s QS ranking for 2027?

Ans. The University of Liverpool ranks #139 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, up from #147 in 2026 and #165 in 2025. It sits at #22 among UK universities and #20 among Russell Group members. On Collegedunia Study Abroad, it ranks #96 globally and #20 in the UK. The 51-place climb across five QS editions is one of the fastest trajectories in the Russell Group over the same window.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Liverpool University?

Ans. Yes. Indian students on a UK Student Visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during scheduled vacations. Common part-time roles among Indian masters students include library assistant, catering, retail, and campus administration, paying £10 to £15 per hour. On-campus jobs are advertised through the university’s Careers and Employability portal, and off-campus roles are open across the city centre.

Ques. How does the IELTS waiver work for Liverpool University postgraduate applicants?

Ans. The university accepts 75% in Class 12 English (CBSE board) or 80% (State Boards) in place of IELTS for most postgraduate courses requiring the equivalent of IELTS 6.5. The waiver does not apply to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, or Investigative and Forensic Psychology programmes. Applicants submit their Class 12 marksheet at offer stage, and the English Language Centre runs pre-sessional courses for offer-holders who fall short.

Ques. Is GRE or GMAT required for masters at the University of Liverpool?

Ans. No. GRE is not required for any MSc programme, including Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, and Engineering. GMAT is not mandatory for the Liverpool MBA either, though the Management School encourages a competitive score for shortlisted candidates. Standardised tests are considered supporting evidence rather than a gating requirement. A strong bachelor’s classification and relevant work experience carry more weight in MBA admission decisions.

Ques. How much is the tuition fee deposit at Liverpool University?

Ans. International offer-holders on masters courses at Liverpool University pay a £2,000 (₹2.59 Lakh) tuition fee deposit to confirm their place. The deposit is deducted from the total tuition fees on enrolment. For September 2026 intake, the deposit deadline is 4 September 2026. Deposits are refundable only in narrow visa-rejection scenarios documented on the official tuition fee deposit page.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for the University of Liverpool?

Ans. SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Avanse, and Auxilo list the University of Liverpool as an approved institution for study-abroad loans. Loan quantum typically covers full tuition plus living costs up to ₹1 Crore with collateral, or up to ₹40 Lakh without collateral. Interest rates for 2026 range from 9.5% to 12% depending on collateral and co-applicant profile. Russell Group status is a key eligibility criterion for premium loan rates.

Ques. Can Indian students bring dependants to Liverpool University for masters?

Ans. Since January 2024, the UK Student Route only allows dependants on research-level programmes such as PhD, MPhil, and MRes. Taught masters students at Liverpool cannot bring spouses or children as dependants under current rules. Research applicants must show additional maintenance funds of £680 per month per dependant for up to nine months. The financial proof must sit in an approved account for 28 consecutive days.

Ques. What documents does the University of Liverpool require from Indian offer-holders?

Ans. Indian offer-holders submit Class 10 and 12 marksheets, provisional and final bachelor’s transcripts, degree certificate, passport bio-page, IELTS score report or English equivalency proof, CV, statement of purpose, two references, and a work-experience letter for MBA applicants. The university does not require WES-verified transcripts for Indian degrees. All uploads go through the online Postgraduate Applicant Portal after initial submission.

  • The campus was within walking distance of my accommodation. They had a sports facility, various clubs, a swing pool, and a gym. The library was great. They have a system that helps students borrow books from a series of libraries across the country.
  • They helped get both hard copies and soft copies, and this helped me a lot during my Master's Dissertation.

Fees

  • My tuition was GBP 20100

  • We have a lot of committees that we could join as per our interests. And there are multiple in-class activities and seminars every week to have a hands-on knowledge and experience of your course to jump into your first job after your master's.

Fees

  • It was approximately £25000 after deducting the scholarship.

  • Only one campus but different departments: management, engineering, medical and so on.
  • There is an on-campus gym, swimming pool, basketball court, rock climbing, and indoor badminton and tennis courts.
  • The campus has two very big and well-equipped libraries with numerous rooms spaces and desks to book and study. From the human body to astronomy, You can find books on every subject there. Very secure access as well.
  • Events keep taking place throughout the entire year; be it career-related or bingo nights, everything is available. Along with bhangra classes, bake clubs, taylor swift clubs, F1 clubs and many more, there are 40+ clubs for students with varied interests that can be joined for free.

Fees

  • My annual tuition was £23,000. We had to pay 60:40 in two instalments. One before the end of October and the next in the middle of February.
  • I got 2000£+2500£=4500£ scholarship so i had to pay £18500 in total.
  • No other charges towards university. But yeah, you would have to pay for the graduation gown.
  • There are a variety of options for student accommodations. Budget-friendly and a little luxury ones as well.
  • But roughly, let's say for a student, along with the rent, you might end up paying £700. £500 rent + £200 groceries.
  • Now this is a very variable figure, as it depends on person to person. Liverpool is a very walkable city and accommodations are in close vicinity to the uni.
  • Bus costs £3 per journey if someone needs it and there are buses to the campus. Need be, one can always take an uber.

  • There is only one campus but soon they will be opening another campus in India (Bangalore) in 2026.
  • The university has all the major facilities, from 2 modern libraries to sports facilities and medical services and GP serives available and many student societies you can be part of. Different festivals are celebrated. Diwali and Holi are huge events as well. You can join cultural events as well and given enough exposure, depending on your interest,

Fees

  • In 2021 university fee was 24,000 GBP
  • I decided to stay in private accommodation, as that was cheaper, so it was around 5000 GBP annually. 105 GBP per week was my rent; food and other expenses depend on your lifestyle. Many expenses apart from rent were 200-300 GBP .
  • Buses are usually 2 GBp for every ride but almost everywhere you get student discounts. Make sure to carry your student ID everywhere. restaurants buses shops you get 10-15% student discounts.

Campus Life

  • The college is more than 100 acres and is situated in the center of Liverpool city. If you would like to let your dean know about your local festival that you celebrate, they will be more than happy to help you celebrate it on campus. The university has all sorts of sports and activities. All you have to do is sign up for it. There are also hundreds of societies.

Fees

  • The fee is quite high. My course fees have gone up significantly since I finished uni. I had multiple scholarships so mine was significantly low. There were also students who came on full scholarship so that is also a possibility.
  • However, a master's course would cost roughly 30-35k pounds for a year. The fee is charged at one go. You also have an option to pay it in instalments. The monthly expenses vary depending on where you rent and buy but I would say between 350 and 600 pounds for a single person, including everything.

  • Libraries , sports , well-being , guilds, biking , cafes, bars, and pools.
  • Students can get involved in lot of activities through guild, like plant pot painting, well being acrobatic activities, sports activities, volunteering, gardening.
  • There are options to take one-day trips through Guild.
  • Now there is going to be a new campus in Bangalore and the main one is in Liverpool.

Fees

  • It depends on each course; for me it was £21,000, where I got a £5,000 scholarship for academic excellence. I stayed out of the campus and rented a 1 BHK for £800 per month, excluding bills. Fees can be paid in two instalments. I lived with my family and rented a 1 BHK and my monthly expenses came to around £2500; provided my partner works full time , this is manageable.
  • But for students it should be much less than this, as they can find rooms for less than £150 per week and everything is accessible from the university campus.

  • There is one main campus called guild and the buildings are surrounded by the city.
  • There are 2 libraries; 1 museum; a sports hall; a swimming pool; and a study space for students, which can be booked online.
  • There are many clubs in the university, like Hindu society, Musical band, Sports team, etc.
  • There are many events planned through societies every week, every month and can attend everything by registering, for example each and every festival is celebrated in Indian society

Fees

  • Fees for MSc International Business were £23000 in the year 2022, but I paid 18500 because of my scholarship.
  • Accommodation was £8500 per year.
  • Fees could be paid either in full or semester-wise.
  • An estimated monthly expense would be £1000 per month, including rent, travelling and food. This is the Basic expenses and you need more if you are spending it for luxury.
