The Master of Science (MSc) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Liverpool is a 12-month full-time conversion program offered by the Department of Computer Science. Ideal for graduates from non-computer science backgrounds, it provides foundational training in mathematics, statistics, programming, data mining, and AI technologies like machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. The curriculum features five core modules covering essential math (linear algebra, probability), programming, AI fundamentals, and research methods; four optional modules (e.g., big data, web programming, bio-inspired algorithms); and a major individual dissertation with expert supervision, often using real-world datasets. Assessments include exams, coursework, and projects, with hands-on lab sessions in state-of-the-art facilities. Pending BCS accreditation, the program emphasizes practical skills for the data-driven economy, preparing students for roles in tech, healthcare, and finance.

Tips and Tricks for Indian Applicants

  • Profile Boost for Non-CS: If your degree is unrelated (e.g., commerce), include self-taught projects (e.g., Python on Kaggle) in your personal statement—highlight math affinity to align with the conversion focus.
  • Deadline Strategy: Target March 2026 submission for Sept intake to lock in housing/placements; use the quick apply if you're a Liverpool alum. Track via Postgraduate Application Tracker for faster updates.
  • Visa Shortcut: For Tier 4, leverage loan letters from Credila/SBI as funds proof (£1,334/month x9 + fees)—accepted without 28-day seasoning. Book VFS in Delhi by July 2026; reference the program's BCS pending status for strong intent.
  • Scholarship Play: Qualify for Achievement (£5k) with 60%+ scores; in your app, link to India's AI boom (e.g., "Data ethics in Aadhaar"). Stack with GREAT for £15k+ total—apply concurrently.
  • Cost Control: Grab on-campus halls (£500-£700/month) via portal ballot; use Indian Students' Society for meal shares. Remit fees via Wise for 1% savings on INR conversion.
  • Prep Hack: Review free pre-reading on linear algebra via university resources; join LinkedIn "Liverpool CS Indians" for mock interviews on AI ethics Qs.

  • My accommodations were by one of my friends who was living there so he was a huge help. And there are tonnes of properties or rooms to rent from Facebook; there are a lot of groups made just for these things. Around £400 was my monthly rent. And the facilities included bills.
  • While finding my own property or accommodation, the challenge I faced the most was viewing them. It takes a lot of effort to view the properties and we need to check each and everything if it is aligning with our needs because changing accommodation can be a hassle every time. Sometimes the owners would also not negotiate the rent amount so you need to be really careful about how to do that.
  • When looking for accommodation, look out for a place that is near to the train station because you might want to travel frequently for your part-time job or for your campus. It is often recommended that you form a group first from your university assembly. Students are looking for accommodation and then I believe you all will find better accommodation together.
