Course Curriculum

6

  • Curriculum Difficulty: More theoretical than practical; assignments vary widely in challenge.
  • Highlights: Ok-ish teaching, good infrastructure, diverse community, not-so-useful labs.
  • Drawbacks: Some lack of practical relevance, tight scheduling.
  • Daily Schedule: Often busy with lectures, labs, and tutorials; timings vary widely.
  • Class Size: Massive—Not so supportive for learning and engagement.
  • Indian Students: Significant presence—estimated majority of CS cohort from Asia.

Admission Experience

  • I have applied to 11 universities, all of which have no form fee or application fees.
  • Confirmed admission:
    • University of Liverpool: Confirmed admission & Admitted
    • City, St George's, University of London: Confirmed admission
    • University of Kent: Confirmed admission
    • Queen Mary University of London: Confirmed admission
    • Durham University: Confirmed admission
    • University of Bath: Confirmed admission
    • University of Leicester: Confirmed admission
    • University of Nottingham: Confirmed admission
    • University of Leeds: Confirmed admission
  • Rejection:
    • The University of Sheffield: Rejected
    • The University of Manchester: Rejected
  • Regarding the rejection, I believe my profile was not up to standard, and that the university has a highly reputed computer science department. So I think it was very competitive.
  • Why I picked the University of Liverpool
    • Year-in-Industry Option: Offers valuable practical experience—a key decider for many.
    • Financial/Practical Benefits: More affordable accommodations and placements.
    • University Reputation: Russell Group status adds credibility in both academia and industry.
    • Easy Modules: Checked out the CS modules, which are far easier.
  • Eligibility criteria:
    • Academic: 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in CS or related field; 2:2 may be considered
    • English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (min 5.5 any band), or equivalent in other tests
  • Admission process:
    • Apply online: Submit the application via the portal with required documents
    • Processing: Receive acknowledgment & track your application
    • References: University may request referee input
    • Offer Decision communicated via email: accept or decline via tracker
    • Deposit & CAS (Intl students): Pay deposit, receive CAS for visa processing
  • Overall admission experience:
    • It is kind of a mixed experience for me, because we don't know much about how the UK system works.
    • I applied to the September 2022 Intake. There are no such factors that influenced me for that intake decision.
  • The overall admission process took 11 months from IELTS preparation to receiving a CAS letter.
  • I started in the month of October and got the Cas letter in the month of August.

Faculty

6

  • Faculty-to-student ratio: 100:1 (University level), which is Not so encouraging for personalised education and approachable faculty.
  • Teaching methodology & job prep: Mix of theory and practicals; But not so strong academic rigour; supportive labs & projects; job readiness not so good but supplemented by self-study helps.
  • Faculty involvement in job placement: Not at all
  • Notable faculty: Dr Sebastian Wild (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/sebastian-wild)Really good guy and got a nice way of teaching.
