What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is very green and clean. You wouldn't feel the kolkata heat much because the campus lies along the bank of river Ganges.
- Hostel is spacious. Although being 4 sharing in first and second year the room is quite spacious and another perk is that you would make friends easily. Hostel life at IIEST is crazy fun.
- The community is nice. Everyone is friendly and you will make good friends and the environment is good and not toxic.
Dislikes
- Because of the greenery mosquitos and other insects will also be roommates to you.
- Because of so much friendship in the hostel you may find small stuff (like scissors, tape, glue stick, pen etc.) missing from your table. (Someone takes them without informing you and forgets to return)
- Seniors may be annoying at first but become cazz as the time passes and you spend more time with them.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mainly I got into this branch because this was the best I could get with my JEE mains rank. After coming here i was exposed to many things such as the importance of skill development. I only think that the 1st year of the engineering course in India should be changed. Like why would a computer science guy require drawing??? After a semester starts there is mid semester and exams after 1.75 months approximately and end semester exams after 1.75 months from mid sem exam.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are easy to get because of the alumni network. The alumni association is very strong since it's working since 1856. You can also get in touch with the alumni through the professors. You will enjoy doing projects at IIEST
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester students become eligible for campus placements. There are companies making offers to every department. The average placement percentage is 80% per department. The highest package is 51LPA and the average package is 11LPA. After getting a degree you will have an opportunity to go abroad (Say MS in US) because of the vast alumni network.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is tuition fees of 68k per semester for gen/obc students having annual family income greater than 5,00,000. If the annual family income is in between 1L to 5L then a two-third fee waiver is awarded. If the annual family income is less than 1L then full fee waiver is awarded. If the student belongs to SC/ST category then full fee waiver is awarded regardless of the annual family income. After the tuition fee comes the hostel fees which is the same for every student who opts for it. Hostel fees is 4000 rupees per semester. There is mess fees of 29000 per semester (1500 is caution money which will be refunded) That's it.
Campus Life
The campus life at IIEST is astounding. The annual cultural fest Rebecca is an event which you cannot miss if you are a student at IIEST. Rebecca is held at the end of the even semesters (around March-april)
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is nice. After getting allotted in a hostel you can get to choose a JMCR (joint mess comittee representative) and mess and sports managers. These people would see the bill of the mess every month and ensure that the hostellers get satisfactory food. The meals are good and the non veg is good.
Admission
You can get into IIEST through JOSAA and CSAB counselling from you JEE mains rank. You can also get into IIEST through DASA. There is state reservation for West Bengal students. The college has good laboratories so if you want to be in the research field while having a placement in backup then IIEST is a good option.
Faculty
Faculty is nice. You would find many helpful professors here. Mostly they are all alumni. There our many professors who would help you in your personal as well as academic problems too. I admired my basic electrical engineering ma'am in my second semester because of her intellect. She was friendly to us and listened to all our problems and understand us. However, there were some professors who would scold you for everything and not even teach properly in the first year. Mainly physics professors. They rush with the syllabus and don't provide enough relevant material for the semester examinations. There is 30 marks mid semester exam, 50 marks end semester exam, 20 marks teacher's (internal) assessment per semester. The exams are easy if you have studied nicely and listened to the classes. CGPA is absolute so there would be no competition among friends.
Night Life
Nightlife in campus is not so good. There are no night canteens yet. Late night activities only include playing table tennis in your hostel or playing badminton in the hostel badminton court. There is a gym in the campus which does not have equipments up to the mark. The gym is non AC and the timings for boys and girls are different.
