Course Curriculum Overview

4

Curriculum of the mechanical engineering branch is very much dated and feels irrelevant to make the students industry ready . The lab facilities are very poor in comparison to other colleges and in depth knowledge would not be acquired via labs. Lab assistants are not well aware of the instruments present in the laboratory. The frequency of exams happens twice in a semester with a final sem (written and lab ) exam

Placement Experience

4

Students get eligible for placements during their final year and can apply for internships from their 2nd year onwards . The lowest package offered was 6L p.a. abd the highest package was 12 L p.a. from mechanical and 52 L p.a. from CS Companies which cane for placements were Sobha constructions ,L&T , Adobe Ansys , Redbus etc for Mechanical

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees comes about to 30000 for merit seat (15000 per semester ) For management seat , it is 70000 per year ( 35000 per semester The admission fees comes to about ?2000 Lab fees , development fees and everything else is included in the fees mentioned above There are 3 types of fees structures : First , for merit seat , then for management seat and then finally for NRI seat All these fees increases in order depending on which seat you are getting in from . There are special fees and seat reservations for Economically lower class students Fee waiver scheme is also available for 1 student per batch . This free study scheme is given to the top student at the time of admission . Each class has a student with fee waiver scheme

Campus Life

4

The annual tech fest held in our college is named Excel MEC and is a grand event which goes over 2-3 days which includes a grand night of concert and excel ends with it . Then there is college day , ethnic day , sports and cultural days and celebrations like Onam and christmas . There are enough and more clubs in the college which fit the taste of each and every individual which makes the students proactive in the college and be social in his/her college life . Sports and cultural activities provide KTU points which is essential (100 points for 4 years ) in the college course Every clubs and groups are student run so there is complete freedom in every group . The books available in library are primarily academic focused

Hostel Facilities

4

The Mens hostel is old and poorly maintained in terms of paint and rooms , but mess and and parking facility in the mens hostel is way better than the ladies hostel , which is newer Both have wifi facilities , but only men's hostel has gym facilities The mess is exceptional for men's hostel but Ladies hostel mess is of poor quality Hostel is way more affordable in comparison to renting a room /pg The mens hostel rent is about 5000 including mess facilities and 7000 for women including mess facilities

Admission

The reason I chose this college over other options were due to the prime location in which it is present and due to the city it is present in . MEC is renowned for the placement opportunities available in this college and is placed in the top 3 colleges in Kerala in terms of placemenets . The admission is based on the student's KEAM rank and this rank decides whether you get the Merit seat or management seat . For others you also have an NRI seat . One other college i applied to was GEC Thrissur and i chose this over GECT was due to placements and location .

Faculty

3

We have a student to faculty ratio of 1:12 in the batch . The faculties are friendly , approachable and provide support to the students . Semester exams are quite tough and we have 2 internal exams and lab exams .

The campus placements are decent. getting placed in a big company is more about having the technical and soft skills to pass the interviews. the placement training helps us develop soft skills but the technical skills must be developed ourselves.

Students in 7th and 8th semester are eligible to sit for campus placements. Companies like Oracle, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Bajaj, Caterpillar and PSU's like BEL,HPCL and BPCL come to the college usually the coding companies offer aroung 35-40 LPA CTC and the core PSU companies offer around 17-18 LPA. Highest Package is 51 LPA and an Average Package of 12 LPA. Nearly 85% students from Circuit and CS branch get placed and around 60% in core branches who sit for placements, My plans after getting the degree is to join MBA to learn how business world works and how the money flows
