Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course coz I wanted to research in Physics. The curriculum is really good giving you a brilliant exposure to all the subjects. The teachers for the non interesting subjects needs to be more energetic so that the class doesn't fall asleep. Exams are quite frequent nd easy to moderarte level papers.
Internships Opportunities
Many colleges like IIScs, IITs, other IISERs, even paid foreign internships are offered to students of IISER K. One may get internships in TIFR, NIUS, CERN, Saha Institue of Nuclear Physics etc. The internships and placements are too good according to me.
Placement Experience
There's a placement cell in IISER K which is active and the median package ranges about 6lpa. Students here don't usually come for placements so that's not our first priority. You can do internships and projects which can be paid.
Fees and Financial Aid
The respective charges for 1st semester are: i) Admission fees(Registration fees, alumni, medical examination and insurance) = 3700 ii) Semester fees = 46155 (Tuition fees for general: Rs44,455 and 0 for SC/ST/PD Lab fees : 500) iii) Hostel Fees(Seat rent, Electricity and drinking water supply) = 8550 iv) Caution Deposit = 3000 v) Thesis and convocation fee = 1000 This all counts to Rs 62,405 for first sem. As per their shared data the approx fees for one semester is Rs56,205. which adds up to 10 sems with medical charges and equals the total fees for five years i.e Rs 5,75,750. I'll be getting the INSPIRE scholarship and others might get other scholarships. The topper for first two sems are awarded with C.N.Rao award along with some cash prizes.
Campus Life
The campus is full of greenery... Extremely good. There are plenty of books and journals available in library with e - books also including foreign as well as Indian authors. There are nearly 27 or 28 clubs in IISER K. All of them are quite active and the juniors also get equal oppurtinities in participating in all events and sports.
Hostel Facilities
In the room one will get his/her own study table, an almirah, a bed, a light and a fan. Plug- points are available still extension cords are suggested. Meal is extremely good for both veg and non veg. In the Menu you'll get a large no of options. A special dish and the other normal meals. You can have your own choice. All of registration for hostels and all are done at the time of admission.
Admission
I haven't applied for any other college. I targeted IISc which didn't come under my rank in IAT. Hence I opted for IISER K being close to it. The only channel for IISER currently is the IAT channel. All the JEE Adv, KVPY channels have been closed.
Faculty
i) Faculty to student ratio is quite good like about 1:7. ii) Being a 1st year student I still haven't interacted with many profs but I liked Debabrata Sir of chem and Maths prof Somnath Basu. iii) I personally don't like Earth Science hence I didn't like Gaurav Shukla Sir. iv) There are many exams including class tests, quizes, midsems and endsems. Still now the papers I faced are quite easy some are about class 12 level questions. Marking scheme is just as it is.
