Course Curriculum Overview

4

This college provides one of most comprehensive course on civil engineering all over India, and is second oldest college of India also. The heritage of teaching civil engineering in this college made me choose this college over other colleges. The curriculum of the course is a little old and till now it hits to the basics of the engineering fundamentals, this is good as well as bad for the students because as an engineering student, one have to evolve continuously in using latest technologies. Including new technologies in labs, new techniques of doin the work and new machinery should be brought here to come into action, where this college is still lacking till date. Exams are timely held strictly according to the academic calendar provided by the college in the starting of every academic year, difficulty of exams depends upon the subject and the professor.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internships are only provided to 3rd year student only and as i am currently in 2nd year there was no internship provided through the college, as a second year student we are given NOC only but we have to manage everything in the internships on our personal basis. And regarding stiepand it varies from college to college and ranges between 10k to 1.5lakhs.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students from 7th semester onwards are elegible for campus placements. Some of the companies that visits for placements are Google, microsoft, amazon, pwc, TI, accenture, PPEL, etc. A total of 920 recruiters were there which offered 753 offers to the students and out of them around 75-78% were placed. The highest placement package was offered by microsoft for 51 lpa as PPO to 14 students and the role was IDC. The average package is around 7.5 lpa. I am planning to appear in GATE exam and go for masters in IITs after completion of my degree where i will be persuing my further studies in transportation engineering.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fee increase is not very much it is very minimal and is affordable, a student coming from middle as well as lower middle class gets wavier in tuition fee according to his/her respective family income. The complete cost of education is around 7.7 lakhs, this will include your tuition fee, hostel, mess fee, other charges which are compulsory. Scholarships like GAABESU, DAAD, Swami Vivekanand scholarship programs are there to help students apart from fee wavier. The college provides internships to the 3rd year students only and after undergoing through it they will be pained by the respective companies accordingly. companies like google, Microsoft, TCS, TI, amazon, cognizant, pwc, ppel come here every year for placements and internships every year and provide 3rd and 4th year students with ample opportunities.

Campus Life

4

The annual cultural fest REBECA which is largest in the Kolkata region and appears in the month of April. Different singers, celebrities and other performers come from the regions like Kolkata and Mumbai. Ramanujan central library is a 2 storied library in my college and it has books consisting from different domains of engineering's and others related to science and technology. You will get almost each and every book of your need in this library. There are separate building of each and every departments and almost classroom of every department consists of AC, Projectors and well maintained bench and desks for the students. There is proper facilities for each and every sports including indoor and outdoor facilities like basketball, volleyball court and 2 well maintained grounds lords and oval. Being Civil is one of the prominent website managed, maintained and updated by alumni and some of the students of the college. It has study material for civil engineering for all 8 semesters

Hostel Facilities

3

A first year student has to share room with 3 other students it means is is of capacity of 4, apart from this a table, a small almirah (too small to keep your belongings properly) is provided. Generally a room looks messy and too much contained. There is a student body which operates the mess and decide the menu on the daily basis. Generally food is decent here but according to the amount you are paying for it, it is not up to the mark. Still you can't do anything in this matter as there is no control of student to the depth and the food suppliers. Registration for hostel is done on the basis of distance of college from your home and the it is affordable enough for a middle class student.

Admission

Candidate qualifying JEE Mains followed by JOSAA and CSAB counselling are eligible to join the course. One appeared and has qualified this exam has go through counselling process and on the basis of his/her respective all India and category ranks they will be provided their most deserving branch according to their filled preferences. One can find the application form on the Jee Mains website that is conducted by NTA every year, this exam is a national level exam for entrance in engineering colleges. Reservation is there on seats in the colleges and in the cutoffs according to center's policy to students of different category and PWD students. After counselling the next thing is done is physical reporting to the allotted colleges, in IIEST fee payment during admission is done using cards and there is no portal for online payment at the ease of home, and this need to be improved in admission process.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty to student ratio is very good here, nearly there is 1 faculty for every 6 students which seems to be good. Having a proper ratio of faculty to students increases the efficiency of teaching and learning. This reduces pressure on both the faculty and the students deu to which they can perform on their best potentials. It increases and eases the interaction of student with the professors. All the faculty here are highly qualified, experienced and trained well in their respective fields, most of them have positive attitude towards teaching and educating students. When it comes to mentorship and guidance to student one need to approach them because generally carrearguidance and mentorship is not given during class hours. Some of the professors are approachable and the interaction with them is also fruitful for the students, also there some professors who are not approachable at all and they do not care at all.

Interview Experience

4

Admission is only based on rank through jee mains only, there is not any kind of interview and GD kind of thing you have to go through. After going through JOSAA and CSAB counselling you have to just appear or go for physical reporting to the institute , pay your fee for admission as well as hostel allotment fee and from then onwards you are good to go. You will be called to the college during orientation and startion of the classes.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin
