Course Curriculum Overview

4

The faculty, overall reputation, and brand value of the college for the B.com department would be the major influences in choosing St.Xavier's, Kolkata. The semesters are short but cover a full 6-month semester syllabus, as a result, the learning is vigorous and the duration is short but the syllabus to study is huge. The professors though efficiently manage the syllabus, deep diving into the topics is not possible in class and left as a personal task, which at the college level is understandable. The final semester exams occur in December and April-May, and the course starts in July and Jan respectively, which can be a short time for preparation compared to the high-quality question paper with varied difficulty levels.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Students of the B.com department are required to do an internship in their final years of at least 4-6 weeks to get the final degree. Additionally through placement cell students are provided with various internship opportunities which they can apply for and give the necessary interview rounds to get selected.

Placement Experience

4.5

The college has its placement cell for internship opportunities and final placement. The final year students are required to register for the placement through the placement portal of our college paying a fee of 500/-, to get all the required updates regarding placement. Our college has companies (including the big 4) coming in with placement offers and the package ranges from 3.83 lakhs up to 15-20 lakhs p.a.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees charged is approximately 3 lakhs for a three-year undergraduate course for B.com Hons. In case of attendance not meeting the required criteria, a condonation fee of rupees 500 is charged, similarly for writing arrear paper a fee of 700 is charged extra. The campus has its placement cell, and a lot of good reputed companies come for campus recruitment. The packages starts from 3.5 lakhs per annum and can go up to 15-20 lakhs p.a.

Campus Life

3

The evening department and morning department do not have a campus life as all the events take place during the day time and hence the day department enjoys the campus events and in general all the events held by the societies and day departments. The main annual event - Xavotsav is attended by everyone. The college library has a lending facility of 14 days which can be renewed and extended for another 14 days once the deadline (14 days from the date of issue ) is reached. The college holds various sports events now and then where students can participate. The college also has an outreach program and holds various social activities. The college has various societies like the commerce society, etc. The students are required to fulfill 45 hours of academic ( earned by giving exams).45 hours of social ( carrying out social service activities) and 45 hours of non-academic credits (earned by attending webinars and seminars ) which are to be fulfilled to get the final degree.

Admission

My admission happened during the COVID period so our batch and the previous COVID batch did not undergo the general procedure which constitutes a written aptitude test and personal interview. The first list cutoff is 95% for the general category and 87% for the second list. Besides this Xaviers has various quotas such as sports quota, alumni quota, etc. which also can be availed if u fit the eligibility criteria.

Faculty

4.5

The teaching faculty members are highly qualified and one of the best faculty from whom one could prevail in education. The professors are approachable and helpful. The faculty-to-student ratio is however imbalanced as a result personal attention is hard to obtain, but if our doubts are presented before the professors then they are duly addressed.

The course curriculum is backdated and should be improvised as it doesn't give any exposure of present industry knowledge. The frequency of exams is that exams are held after 6 months on semester basis and are easy to pass and majority of the students pass this semester easily.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is obviously outdated and the knowledge we get through it, is bookish and does not apply to present industry methods. This way we are given no exposure to the real life industry knowledge. The exams are held on semester basis after every 6 months and are easy and manageable.
