Course Curriculum Overview

4

St. Xavier's COllege is widely know for its B.com course across the country. The course is believed to be very relevant and comprehensive. I personally decided to choose the course since I plan on giving the CA examinations , and the subjects taught by this course align well with the exam syllabus. The course covers topics which are directly related to real life business applications and also aligns well with students who plan on taking other professional examinations simultaneously. The current course is aligned with NEP 2020, so it is well updated. The examinations are quite frequent, and test our deep understanding, not just rote learning. The end-of-semester exams are known to be fairly difficult - though again - helpful to students pursuing other professional courses.

Internships Opportunities

4

The placement cell has provided more than a 100 internship opputunities in this colleges. There are various internships or all courses available round the year. Students from every year have access to internship opportunities. These range from work in startups to corporate roles in well established companies.

Placement Experience

4

The college has a distinguished student placement cell which has successfully placed hundred of students in large, well-known companies. Students in the final year of their course who are interested in getting placed have to register themselves with the placement cell. The placement cell has brought over 70 companies to the campus. Over 550 students have been placed and more the 100 internships offered with the package ranging from 4 lakhs to 36 lakhs per annum.

Fees and Financial Aid

The B.Com (Hons) fee structure includes a Rs. 30000 admission fee which is same for all courses and a Rs. 5000 security deposit. The semester fee is Rs. 48,500 which includes tuition fees of Rs. 38,600, a developement fee of Rs. 5800, examination fess of Rs. 2000, library fees of Rs. 1200 and other fees coming to Rs. 900. For students from the sponsorship category, the semester fee is twice the amount paid by students of the general category. The college offers various scholarships for B. Com (Hons) students which include the Nihil Ultra Scholarship, Sampa Bose Memorial Scholarship, and Rupa Scholarship which offer 100% waiver on tuition fees. Sushil Kumar Poddar Memorial Scholarship offers full fee waiver except examination fees.

Campus Life

4

St. Xaviers college boasts a large number of clubs covering various extra curriculurs. Social events involve flagship event of every club and the annual cultural fest - Xavotsav which includes a wide range of events - from dance and music to literary competitions and sports events.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facilities are basic with strict rules. Students are provided with a bed, study table, chair, and cupboard. Most outstation students prefer to live in PGs due to the stringent hotsel rules, though hostels are the more affordable option.

Admission

I chose this college over other colleges due to its high reputation, especially regarding the B.Com course. The college also has a very prestigious range of alumni and good placement opportunities. It consistently ranks among the top colleges in our country, most recently gaining the 6th position on the NIRF scale. The college also has a well-reputed faculty and a record of good teaching. The college admission process was fairly simple. It was an online process - and included filling up a detailed admission form along with online submission of necessary documents. After that came the payment of the application fee. The selection lists containing the names of selected students came out a few weeks later, with a link for the payment of the admission fee for the first semester. Following that was the physical verification of documents, on completion of which the admission process was formally complete.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio varies from 1:70 to about 1:100. Faculty members however, are very approachable and take care to foster and maintain a good faculty student relationship. the faculty is very qualified and knowledgeable, with a high number of faculty members having a Phd. Classes are interactive and students are assigned professor mentors to help with any troubles they might be facing in the college. There are two exams conducted every semester. One is the mid-semester exam called the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA), and the other is the end semester exam. The CIA's are fairly standard with good conceptual questions. The end semester exams, however, tend to lead toward the more difficult side which cannot be solved through just rote learning.

Interview Experience

3

No, there was no group discussion, interview, or written test for my admission to the B.Com course. However, various courses such as many B.Sc courses and the BMS course have to take a written test to gain admission to the college.

Night Life

1

St. Xavier's college does not have a distinguished night life - since it is a traditionally jesuit structured day college. The evening courses include the co-ed B.Com course and the BMS course. The last class gets over at 8.05 p.m. after which campus gates are closed. The girl's hostel has a curfew of 5.30 on weekdays and 7.30 on weekends while the boys hostel curfew extens till 9 p.m.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is of course outdated. Teaching methods are old. No case studies, competitions or project of any sort is there in the curriculum. Although a project of 100 marks is there in the final sem, but I don't think that's enough. There is no practicality in the curriculum and usability in career. The syllabus really needs an uplifment.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is average , I chose this course because I wanted to do an honours degree and I'm from commerce background so my first pick was B.Com . They really put efforts to prepare students for well future , as I said earlier some teachers are genuinely very good helpful supporting and good at what they do . Something they need to approve is the 70% attendance criteria, I think they need to understand not every student is just persuing graduation they are doing some other courses or jobs etc so they can't maintain 70% attendance . The frequency of timing is average

Course Curriculum is Comprehensive, focused equally on Academics and Practical Exposure.. I chose because of that extra year of research I can choose to do in my final year (4th year) of graduation and I'll have an Hons. Degree at the end of 4th year of my college... Practical insights makes sure we are being trained to tackle practical world and academic knowledge ensures we are eligible to apply for further Education.. I will say more focus on Practical Exposure and a little extra focus on Sports May Take This Curriculum to a different level..

• The specific aspects of the curriculum are the subjects including in this course are related to the industry that will help students to build their career in this competitive world and I choose the course as I wanted to pursue a professional course after graduation. • The curriculum prepares us pretty well for real world applications as there are subjects like management that helps students to understand things very clearly and apply it in the real world. • The frequency and timing of exams is perfect and my perspective on the difficulty level is that the exams are not at all difficult.
