Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am in 1st year and my degree is Electronics( VLSI Design & Technology). So I have not yet started learning subjects directly relevant to my stream. 1st year consists of learning subjects that are common to everyone, to build a good foundation. There are some subjects which have no relevance to daily life, and they don't require to be studied by Electronics engineering students. Subjects like engineering graphics, mechanics, civil and mechanical engineering are not topics that will be applied in daily life, and they don't prepare you to face the real world. On the other hand, C-programming which is only introduced in the 2nd semester is more useful for a 1st year student. In the 1st semester the timing of exams feels sudden, and we have to slowly adapt ourselves to it. Often, internal exams are not given a break, all exams of 5 or 6 subjects are conducted back to back. And when the semester end nears, all the assignments, 2nd internal and lab exams seem to happen at a stretch.

Placement Experience

4.5

Campus placements are very good. There is an excellent placement record at Model Engineering College. Companies like DE Shaw & Co, Ansys, IBM, Synopsis, hired students in the latest placement drive. Highest pay package was 52 CTC. The average pay package was 8.1 LPA. 141 students from CSE, 137 from ECE, 67 from EEE, 70 from EBE and ME got placement offers. 323 offers for male students, and 162 offers went to female students. Top companies such as Amazon, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Yahoo have come to be the best recruiters in previous placements drives.

Fees and Financial Aid

Ample scholarship are provided for students, and for more details the office is usually contacted. The exisiting tuition fee is 35,000 for merit seats, 65,000 for management seats and 1,00,000 for NRI seats. The new fee is 20,000 for merit, 35,000 per semester for management and 1,10,000 for NRI. Campus employment opportunities are vast as the one thing this college is known for- is its placement records. Placements drives are very well conducted, with mock interviews and sessions to give students a clear cut idea on what to do for ensuring placements. There are many opportunities for skill building.

Campus Life

3.5

Excel is the annual techno-managerial fest hosted by MEC. The arts and sports fest are also held, with the final year students being the backbone of it all. There are numerous clubs, both technical and non-technical, and after a weeks into semester 1, they start taking in students into many clubs. Most of the clubs have a core team comprising entirely of students, with guidance from faculty members. Its a good chance to test your interest in various fields, and join the clubs you want to. The tech fest of MEC, Excel is always wonderfully conducted with vast participation from MECians and non-MECians. Talking about facilites in classrooms, it could be improved a bit more. Each class is just provided with one projector, so teachers can use it for presentations while taking class. The infrastructure of the college also has huge potential for improvement, because campus area is very very small. There are many opportunites to socially interact with seniors, teachers and even alumni.

Admission

The admission process was not very time consuming and long. KEAM exam is the eligibilty required to get admission here. And 12th std physics and maths. Cutoff for CSE was the highest, till about rank 3500. Electronics with VLSI, being a new course, the cutoff was very low. There were almost 3 rounds of KEAM counselling where you can list the option for courses and the type of seat you want at desired colleges. All guidelines and instructions were listed in their portal. Once shortlisted for a course, then weeks later, had to visit college with necessary documents for the admission process. Even after that, there was later admissions into the course. Slowly, the timings of classes, transport facilities, uniform etc were provided by the college. Class started in september.

Faculty

4

My class consists of 63 students, and there is one faculty handling a subject. For certain subjects like basics of civil and mechanical engineering, there are 2 faculties handling civil and mechanical separately. Almost all faculty members are very qualified, and know what they're teaching. They are open to solving doubts, explaining concepts as many times as the students want. We have a class advisor who is kind of like a mentor to the whole class, we had brief weekly sessions with sir, in semester 1. So for any quieries, issues, or help, students can approach the staff advisor. Teachers are very appraochable, and you can approach them whenever you want. I think the college has a healthy faculty-to-student ratio.

Campus placements are highly volatile taking the stats from over the past three years there has been an up trend as well a down trend, I hope I will get placed through on campus interviews, the highest package of this year was for two graduates who got into IBM with 22 lakhs per aanum, there are few who didn't get into any of the companies while there were others who got int Amazon and other reputated companies, if I do not get into a reputed company through my college on campus placements the. I'll be aiming for higher educations most probably
