- The vast library, it is the largest library in Asia spanning over 5 Floors and a myriad of books.
- The lively campus life. Love the events like Saturnalia and Thapar food festival.
- The variety of sports offered and the number of societies in the college.
Dislikes
- Compulsory 75% attendance. It is annoying to be always worrying about your attendance when there is just so much on campus to do
- The fees. The fees is exorbitant, it's just way too much.
Course Curriculum Overview
I want to work in cosmetic formulation hence biotechnology was the natural choice. Subjects like biochemistry and microbiology interested me in choosing this course. I think it prepares us really well for real-world applications and further academic pursuits as it has a balance of theoretical and hands-on activities. Some subjects like c programming should be there for more than one semester as they require deeper exploration. There are two major exams in one semester. A mid-semester exam and and end-semester exam. Other than that we have sessionals before our MSTs and ESTs and Lab evaluations before ESTs for the subjects that have lab requirements like applied chemistry, physics, biochemistry etc.
Internships Opportunities
I am a first year student so I haven't interned anywhere hence have no idea about this but from what I have heard a lot of top companies like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft etc offer internships here. The stipends vary company to company.
Placement Experience
1.Eligibility: Final year students of all branches are eligible for campus placements. 2. Google (3), Microsoft (10), Amazon, Apple (1) Goldman Sachs (10) etc. 3. Highest package was around 44 LPA and the average package was around 8 LPA. 4. You have to have a CGPA of more than 6 to participate in placements for most companies 5. Apply for an MTECH programme in biotechnology.
Fees and Financial Aid
1. The institution reserves the rights to increase the fees whenever they want. 2. 25 lacs (could be more depending on your choice of hostel) 3. Scholarships are merit based and are given to students with 8.5 cgpa or above. The higher your cgpa the higher the scholarship. 4. I have not undertaken any employment as of yet due to being a first year student. A stipend is given only to PhD students.
Campus Life
1. Genaissance(Feb), URJA (Jan - Feb), Virsa, Izhaar (February) Annual Athletic Meet (March) Frosh Week (August) Thapar Food Festival (September) MUDRA Eve (October), ELIXIR, SATURNALIA (November) 2.Classrooms are well-equipped with multimedia projectors and high-speed internet, supporting interactive learning. Labs cater to various disciplines, offering students hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology. 3. The sports available are basketball, swimming, tennis, football, athletics track etc. They also offer NCC Air Wing Membership. 4. There are a number of societies run by students in the University like Toastmasters, GDSC, MLSC-TIET, MUDRA, EDC, CSS, AISEC, ECON Club, Thapar Movie Club etc.
Hostel Facilities
1. You're given a bed, desk, chair and cupboard. 2. Meal quality is quite great. You get everything in the menu from rajma chawal to chole bhature. The meals offered are vegetarian only with exception of eggs offered in breakfast. 3. You're sent a form for registration after your admission is confirmed.
Admission
Eligibility of the Course - For Biotechnology you need a minimum 70% PCB/PCM in the 12th or you can also apply through your NEET score which is required to be around 200-250. To find the application form, application fees, and application dates - All the information you'll need will be available on the very first page of the website itself on the bulletin board. The frequency and timing of exams along with your perspective on their difficulty level - No exams are conducted by the college. Admissions are done solely on the basis of JEE Rank/PCM/B board %. Areas for improvement in the admission process - No such areas for improvement.
