Remarks
Jadavpur University admits based on WBJEE Score. This happens around the time of JEE Advanced usually. The level is in between jee mains and boards. Here, the negative marking is present in only some categories of question paper, this may seem less but there a negative marking of even 1 creates here is 100 ranks (if your rank is below 100), which can you from getting a seat in your desired branch. The fee is Rs 500. It has 2 papers, so the exam takes a whole day. The condition of exam centers should be improved, sometimes you may find fans absent, broken windows, a stinky environment, and stray dogs inside the campus. The exam scores are only valid for WB Colleges as expected. Some of these colleges also admit diploma students directly into 3rd year of the course through JELET exam scores. Domicile benefit plays a huge role here. If you are a WB resident you have a good advantage. Usually, students overlook this exam in lieu of JEE Mains and Adv and are often unaware of this exam & colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical Engg is the core of any practical engineering work you see and it's essential to build things. Everywhere I saw, I found its application. i beleive nothing is possible without Mechanical Engg, even the computers which people find so fascinating uses Thermal (Sub of Mech Engg.) to tackle heating at micro levels due to numerous transistors in an IC. Most of the faculty members here are very approachable, you can directly contact them through phone/email or come to their office to have your doubts answered. Many are profoundly excellent and have secured World ranking in the 2% scientists community. One such prof is Balaram Kundu sir. He is a globally recognized researcher, even then if you ask him questions like the area of a triangle you won't find him yelling at you for asking this silly question. He always wants qsns & answers with a smile very calmly. The faculty members are highly qualified with huge experience in their field, Here the exam results do take time, which is a con.
Internships Opportunities
Pidilite, Bajaj, PwC, Cairn, ITC. They offer projects like building a strategy to optimise the inventory, analyzing the failure of a component after getting to the working of the component, Buidling systems using thier AI framework, Performing data analysis, and recommending decisions based on those insights. They also offer PPO to those who perform exceptionally well in their internship tenure.
Placement Experience
After 3rd year you can apply for full time roles and you can apply to internships through others means in 2nd Year but officially companies come at the start of 3rd year to offer internship roles. The placement scenario is pretty good. The Min ROI you get is 100X. Some of the companies that visit include Google, Amazon, TCS, Deloitte, ZS, Maruti Suzuki, Cairn, Bajaj Auto, PwC, Airbus, Polestar, HSBC etc. Students do get triple offer here.So many laps like fluid , heat poer, applied mechanics etc. In mechanical you can expect 85-90% of batch getting placed (remember many go for higher studie, so whole batch does not sit for placement) The universities they go to include Pennstate, TUDelft and others as well. The PSUs also come on campus and recruit students. Highest package for mech you can expect around 20 LPA with avg package of 8-8.5LPA. I am currently working for my placements, wish me luck! :)
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost is something which you won't believe. Its 12.5K for 4 years of engineering. Unlike other colleges where you have to spend 20 lacs+ and learn from teachers who themselves are not qualitied, here you get to study from top researchers at almost no cost i would say. They have thier publications, books, papers, projects, collaborations with big orgs, and whatnot. Who better than them to help you through. The scholarship options are also available here on top of this small fee that is charged. Currently, the univ is facing a financial crunch, but the alumni will certainly not let that affect the univ largely here for sure, if it happens at all, it will always be cheaper and better than most colleges in India, where you spend huge sums of money getting nothing in return. The ROI here is 100X ATLEAST. The crowd here is something your mind finds difficult to adjust to initially, but over time you'll find great lifelong buddies here.
Campus Life
Clubs like ISHRAE, Science club, Photography club, debate society, drama, and motorsports. Social groups like campus24. The library here is the biggest you will not find this anywhere else. It has digital integration as well to make your search easy..along with reading rooms where you can study for hours without ANY disturbance. The late fine is also so negligible and not a very hard penalty. Though the behavior of the support staff can come as rude sometimes, I would say. Fests include Sanskriti, and Srijan (March & Aug).where singers and popular bands like Indian Ocean, and Anupam Roy perform. It has a lot of cultural activities along with pop concerts that you will enjoy and never ever forget. The sports diversification is also here with cricket, table tennis, carrom, badminton, etc. you can play at any time you want to on such a big ground. JU also has its other campus in salt lake where International cricketers come for practice before their actual international game. AC classrooms but not in Mech.
