Remarks

The eligibility to get admission in Thapar is you need to clear Jee mains. Admission is taken through jee mains as well as class 12 PCM marks. I found the application form on their website. The applicate dates started in January. The application fee was 1500. As far as reservation benefits are concerned 50 per cent of seats are reserved for Punjab state and the rest for others. Apart from these, there is also reservation for Sc, st candidates.50 per cent admission is taken on basis of jee mains and 50 per cent from boards. I had taken admission as a general quota. I want all admission should be taken through jee mains.

Course Curriculum Overview

I had chosen this course because the placement of the COE branch is the best. The faculty-to-student ratio is 30:1 .Many of the faculties here have completed their masters from IIT as well as phd.The teaching method is very good here. There are two exams in one semester. One is mid-term and another is end-term.

Internships Opportunities

The internship opportunities for the students start from the third year onwards. The companies visited are Microsoft, Jp morgan, Deshaw, Arcesium and many more. The job role offered by the companies is software development engineer.

Placement Experience

From semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Companies start to come from the end of semester 6. All the big mnc's that come in IITs also come here. Names are Microsoft, DEshaw, Arcesiym, Cisco, VMware, Samsung and many more. The highest package is 43 lac as of now. The average package is 8 lac for all branches and 14 lac for CSE. 90 per cent of the students get placed from here. After getting the degree I will be working for top mnc.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is 218900 per sem. The hostel fees are excluded. There are many scholarships offered to students. In fact, there are scholarships worth of 100 per cent fee waiver. There is one scholarship named merit cum means for students whose economic background or family is weak. Right now I am in my third year. Many top-notch companies have come here for internships.

Campus Life

Saturnalia is one of the best fests of Thapar. It takes place in the month of September. There is a huge library present inside the campus and students can issue books from there. The class are fully equipped with air conditioning and projectors. The lecture theatres are the best. As far as sports are concerned. All types of sports are present here. There are many different types of grounds for different sports. In fact, there is a swimming pool here. There are many clubs and societies present t inside the college.

Hostel Facilities

Thapar has one of the best hostels. Currently, i am in Hostel O which is newly made. The hostels are fully Air conditioned. One room consists of a balcony, beds, a study table, and many more. The mess is handled by Sodexo and the food quality is top-notch. Nothing to worry about food is best. The registration process of a hostel is like we receive google forms in which we have to select hostels and according to our grades, we get hostels.

Hostel Fee: INR 56500 per year

Likes

The infrastructure is great with state of the art labs and equipment
The library is really nice place to study
Lots of hangout spots in and around campus

Dislikes

Less opportunities for core branches as less core companies visit campus
75 percent attendance policy for classes
Very high fees compared to other colleges

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Likes

There are 1 AC Lecture complex()LT with almost a seating capacity of 100-120 students, with smart screens and projector.
NITJ has well maintained 4 Girls hostel and 4-5 boys hostels with proper cleanliness and hostel staff.
They are 7 cafeterias in the Campus, including 3 Nescafe outlets,1 dominos and 3 regular canteens that serve food late night.

Dislikes

Wifi and connection issues in the hostels
Slow response to emails and late approval to applications
The ICE department faculty is quite strict. Tough grading system and administration.

Placement Experience:

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Likes

The environment of the college is so nice, helpful staff, AC labs for CS deptt.
Canteen and water facilities and park in both deptts
Skilled professional educators and tutors

Dislikes

Distance of travelling coz for me its too much far
Nothing as of now everything was good enough

Placement Experience:

- Limited campus opportunities were available, and most students become eligible from the final year. - The average package was around 2-5 LPA. - after my degree my plan is to improve my employability my strengthening my technical skill in my domain

Big campus and beautiful garden and environment
Aqi was soo good because plants and tree was so much

Mess food was bad but it doesn't taste that bad
If we Complaint about anything college mostly ignore it

From 7th sem students become eligible for campus placements and tata or Infosys companies visited and about 60 to 70 percent students were placed and my plans after getting the degree is to opt for higher studies doing mtech from iit

I like the most about the college the placement criteria and the way built your confidence
Also the hostel is very good and provide food 4 times

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

I like the machines that's why I choose the mechanical branch in engineering line. Noida , Gurgoan , Chandigarh , Bengluru and many other areas for improvements in the course curriculum and teaching methods.

Good infrastructure, campus and faculty. Have to improve placements and industrial visits.

Likes

The campus is very green and clean. Infrastructure is good and one can feel fresh air here in campus
The faculty is excellent, almost all of the professors and assistant professors have a degree from renowned institutes. So they know their subject and field very well.
Hostels are good and affordable. Although the hostels itself are old, services are good and you get a nice room for the price/rent

Dislikes

The crowd isn't good. Always demotivated to do anything productive regarding studies. Some people are just here for time-pass
Very less site and outdoor visits. For practical experience, they should conduct industrial visits, but that happens rarely
Placements are really Dry and there is decline in company visits for placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

The sports and the various facilities that they provide for relaxing
The Library that remains open till 10-11 at night for those who wish to study till late
Great mentors and very helpful teachers who are always willing to help

The hectic schedule and curriculum that the students have to follow.
The lack of certain facilities that would help the students improve thoer personalities
Too much strictness and restrictions with everything that someone wishes to do

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
