Remarks
Great college, great history and truly world-class faculty.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum in those times were aligned to the market requirements of those times. This was an era of pre-computerization and computers were gradually making an appearance in the university, especially for the science streams. For Arts faculty it was more on books and archives, the old fashioned way. However, there was provision for industry interaction, mainly for advertising agencies, public relations companies and corporates that wanted to hire English literature post graduates.
Placement Experience
Mostly advertising and public relations companies used to visit the campus for hiring. Apart from this there was a vibrant internship programme that helped students get summer jobs ar decent companies. Also, many MNCs came for filling up Administrative positions.
College Events
There was a very famous Annual Festival that lasted for 3 days. Over and above these there were plays and carnivals at regular intervals. Quiz programs, dance competitions and debates were very common. Inter college competitions were also held twice a year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee was highly subsidized. We paid Rs 3000/- per year. There was no concept of donations or additional fees. Every payment was transparent and admissions were done purely on the basis of merit. For the underprivileged there were provisions for admissions at lesser grades.
Fees and Financial Aid
I did not apply or avail any education loan. The reason being my father's sponsorship for my studies.
Campus Life
It was a great experience. Something to be cherished for a lifetime. The gender and ethnic diversity was amazing. I could connect to diverse cultures as students from different parts of the country came to the campus for studying. It was truly a cultural melting pot that propelled all round excellence.
Hostel Facilities
I had opted for the University hostel. Each PG student had a single room if he qualified for hostel accommodation. Only the merit listers made it to the hostel. The rentals were highly subsidized and the monthly rent was RS 300/- The food bill per month hovered around Rs 500.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network spans the world. You can find a Kirori mal College guy anywhere in the world. The network helps stay in contact and organizes socials every now and then.
Admission
The course was in line with my ambition to be a writer. The factors responsible for choosing this institution were: High pedigree brand name, good quality of teachers and proximity to my residence in Delhi. The location was near the Delhi University Arts Faculty and had easy access to both the college and university libraries.
Faculty
We had 16 mandatory papers with 16 different lecturers teaching these subjects. The average age of these lecturers was 35 and they had sound experience in teaching their respective subjects. Most had presented research papers in their area of expertise. Some of them had industry experience in journalism and corporate functions in leading MNCs.
