Remarks

The management is very efficient and helpful. Though after the expansion in number of seats, there is some problem faced by students in the first semester, the administration tries it's best to make the experience pleasant for everyone.

Entrance Preview

DSE Entrance Exam. Rank 24. I opted for DSE because I always dreamt of studying Economics and DSE is the best place for it

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum is quite challenging and seems daunting at first. There's a famous quip in DSE that surviving DSE is much tougher than getting into it, which itself has become immensely competitive recently. But despite this, the experience is very enriching and satisfying, studying from the best faculty and with the brightest students. If one loves economics and has a penchant for logic, then DSE is the place to be.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the Department of Economics has a very active Placement Cell which works tirelessly to ensure that students are well placed in both internships and final placement. The average stipend is around 50000 per month for a period of 2 months.

Placement Experience

5

As mentioned above, the placement cell is really active and ensures highly coveted placement for almost 100% of the students. The rigorous curriculum makes DSE students much sought after in the job market. The average package is around 13 lakhs and the placement record is almost 100%

College Events

3.5

Every Thursday, the Department organises a seminar where reputed economists and academicians deliver lectures and discuss with students and faculty their research areas. This keeps the students abreast with the latest cutting edge research taking place in various fields of Economics. There is the prestigious Winter School in December which provides a unique opportunity to students to present their papers and also interact with the best Economic minds in the world.

Fee Structure And Facilities

One of the best part about studying in DSE is the return on investment. The annual fees is around 8000 and there are various scholarships awarded to students purely on the basis of merit. It's almost impossible to find such a quality of education offered anywhere in the world at such low fees. This ensures that no student is denied world class education merely because of want of money.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. There are lots of scholarships available to students like the coveted Manmohan Singh Scholarship, EXIM bank scholarship etc. These scholarships are awarded purely on the basis of merit and are highly sought after by all students. Plus, there is also a provision of fee waiver for needy students.

Campus Life

4.5

Dse is one of the places which offers technical courses and has an excellent gender ratio, with there being more women than men in the batch. The campus is serene, extremely calm and clean. The DSE canteen and the JP tea stall are famous for their delicasies at extremely low prices. There is a state of the art computer lab where students are trained on various statistical software like Stata. There are various societies like Prayaas and ShareDse

Hostel Facilities

4

There are several Postgraduate hostel facilities under Delhi University spread throughout the campus. The hostels are awarded on the basis of merit too and the facilities are really good and cheap too. There are 24 hour canteens in almost all hostels and there is cheap transportation by DTC buses and the Delhi Metro.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network of DSE is huge as DSE is almost 70 years old and the alumni are spread across various domains like government, academia and corporate. It forms an excellent network as the alumni remain in touch with the college

Exam Structure

DSE being a part of the university of Delhi follows it's examination system. The MA ECONOMICS course is a two year course divided into 4 semesters. Each semester, students have 4 papers and there are regular midterms and assignments for each subject. There is then the end semester examination in November and May. This keeps the students on their feet and engaged with the curriculum.

Admission

DU starts the centralised admissions in May. After applying, there's an entrance test on the basis of which admissions are granted. There is also a separate merit based selection for DU economics undergraduates. The entrance is quite challenging and tests the students on basic areas related to economics, mathematics and statistics.

Faculty

5

The faculty is terrific. They are rated highest in the RePec rankings for Economics in India on the basis of high quality research published in extremely prestigious peer reviewed journals. Apart from the sheer diversity of the courses the faculty is capable of offering, they are extremely friendly and approachable. It's really stimulating to have conversations with them and one can be sure to be wiser and awed after each such conversation.

Continuous and comprehensive evaluation or CCE is a well-structured formula and anyone in the system can learn from it and get the benefits from it as well. The termwise assessments are the proofs that one can derive inspiration from it.

I have did my BA in the same course that's why I opted for this again in my MA. The curriculam was quiet good according to the previous syllabus. Whatever I have read in my bachelors, I got to know it deeper in my Masters. The timings of the exams were okay according to the syllabus. Also there was no difficulty level if you have read the syllabus properly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I had done my bachelors in Sociology (H), I found it fit to pursue public administration and due to my other prior engagements I opted for the ODL programme hence IGNOU. The course can be very lengthy and tiring and above all you have to figure it all out on you own and so it can get a bit confusing too sometimes. The exams and assignment submissions happen only once a year.

Delhi University - [DU], Master of Arts [MA] (East Asian Studies)
Reviewed on Jan 17, 2024(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course considering my interest in East Asian culture and Languages. The Faculty: Student ratio is 1:40 and most of the professors are Ph.D scholars. The teaching method comprises reading books and learning after it which stipulates the form of an ancient education system like any other mediocre Indian University. "An important factor to consider is that faculty sometimes fell short due to a shortage of subject masters(or should I say language) For example, Chinese faculty is much in number and experience than Korean and Japanese while the latter suffer the incompetency of the number of faculty. Term exams happened to be very fast but it was due to the internal issues that remain consistent in DU and except that there would be tons of Internal Assessments that play a major role in one's SGPA. Exam level - Hard!
