Course Curriculum Overview
In IGNOU, you can study from anywhere because the courses are offered in distance and online mode. You don’t have to attend regular college; you can study at home using the books, PDFs, and online lectures. IGNOU also provides online teachers through live classes, recorded videos, and doubt-clearing sessions on their online platforms. This makes it easy for students to learn even if they are working or living in another city.
Fees and Financial Aid
IGNOU MA Sociology (MSO) fees: • ?7,300 per year • Total 2-year fee: ?14,600 • Registration fee: ?300 Scholarship: • IGNOU offers a PG Fellowship (?2,500/month for 24 months) • Eligibility: 60%+ in graduation & age below 25 yrs at admission • You can also apply for National/State scholarships through
Campus Life
IGNOU doesn’t have a traditional campus life like regular colleges because it’s mainly a distance-learning university. Most students study from home using books and online materials. There are no daily classes, festivals, or campus events like in regular universities. Some study centres may organize occasional counselling sessions, workshops, or exams, but overall, the “college experience” is limited.
Admission
IGNOU gives admission to almost everyone because it follows an open-learning system. There is no strict entrance exam for most courses, so anyone who meets the basic eligibility can take admission easily. The entire IGNOU admission process can be done online — filling the form, uploading documents, and paying the fees can all be done easily through their website. Eligibility for IGNOU Admission: It depends on the course. For undergraduate courses, you generally need to have completed 10+2. For postgraduate courses (like MA Sociology), you need a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Some professional or diploma courses may have additional requirements, but most IGNOU programs have flexible eligibility.
Faculty
IGNOU is good for students who want flexibility because you can study from home and the fees are affordable. The study material is also good and the degree is recognised everywhere for jobs and further studies. But the downside is that IGNOU’s administrative work can be slow, like getting study material, updating assignments, or releasing results. Also, since it’s a distance-learning university, you don’t get regular campus life or much interaction with teachers. Overall, it’s helpful if you want flexible and low-cost education, but not ideal if you want a full college experience.
Night Life
Since IGNOU is mainly a distance-learning university, most campuses are administrative or study centres, not full-fledged residential campuses. So there isn’t really a “nightlife” or entertainment scene near IGNOU centres. Students usually live off-campus, and any nearby cafes, restaurants, or hangout spots depend on the city where the study centre is located. It’s not like a regular college town with nightlife or social life.
