I would personally lean towards B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering in NIT Warangal over B.Tech Production Engineering in NIT Trichy. While NIT Trichy has decent placements and a collaborative campus life, the curriculum for production engineering seems a bit less engaging, and the faculty's interest in teaching appears to be lacking. NIT Warangal, although I don't have as much specific data on placements, generally has a strong reputation in electrical engineering, which opens up more diverse career opportunities. Plus, if you're concerned about faculty engagement and a more practical approach to learning, NIT Warangal might be the better pick. If you have a genuine interest in electronics and electricals, I’d definitely recommend going for NIT Warangal.

Hey! Hope you're doing well.

Let me be straightforward about the courses and the colleges.

  • The placements for circuital branches like Computer Science, EEE, ECE, and ICE are significantly better compared to Mechanical, Production, Civil, Chemical, and Metallurgy.
  • If you don’t secure a spot in those top branches or circuital ones, choose whichever field interests you.

You don’t have to follow the cliché of studying in a circuital branch just to land a job in IT or a big tech company.

I chose Production Engineering because, firstly, I wanted to do something different. Secondly, I wasn't a Computer Science student in school, so I didn’t even know what coding was!

These circuital branches require strong coding skills. I tried to develop an interest in coding, but it just didn’t click for me, so I moved on.

Ultimately, I have two or three options for my future.

Production Engineering covers the basics of Mechanical Engineering, and you can also branch into management-related areas if you choose Production.

Especially at NIT Trichy, Production students have ample time for extracurricular activities since the number of working hours is comparatively less.

If you're unsure about your choice, Production Engineering at NIT Trichy is a solid option. If you enjoy the subject and perform well, there are plenty of companies coming for placements. At least back in 2008, many companies that recruited mechanical engineers also hired production engineers from NITT.

You can also engage in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities at NITT to discover your interests.

Many students opt for MBAs after completing their B.Tech. In that case, your specific B.Tech branch doesn’t hold much weight.

If you're passionate about your course, pursuing higher studies abroad is a great option. Just check if there's a separate GATE exam for your branch. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe you can take the mechanical engineering exam.

NIT Trichy offers a strong ROI for B.Tech in Production Engineering with a tuition fee of 62,500 per semester, making it around 2.5 lakhs per year, and the highest package reaching 56 LPA, indicating excellent placement opportunities. On the other hand, NIT Warangal's Electrical and Electronics Engineering program has a higher fee structure, with total costs nearing 6 to 7 lakhs for the entire course, but specific placement data isn't provided. NIT Trichy's scholarship options also look favorable, especially for low-income families, making it the smarter financial choice. If you're more inclined towards practical industrial applications and want better placement prospects, NIT Trichy would be the way to go; however, if you're genuinely passionate about Electrical Engineering and can manage the higher costs, NIT Warangal could be a solid long-term investment.

NIT Trichy for B.Tech Production Engineering offers impressive placement opportunities, with over 80% of students placed and the highest package reaching 56 LPA, alongside solid internship options from companies like Capital One and Uber. In contrast, NIT Warangal's B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering program, while also reputed, may not showcase the same high package figures or internship variety based on current insights.

Given the strong placement statistics and diverse internship offerings at NIT Trichy, I’d recommend it for those prioritizing job prospects, especially if you’re inclined towards industrial applications in engineering. However, if you have a passion for electrical and electronics and prefer a robust curriculum, NIT Warangal still remains a strong choice.
