Should I go for B.Tech Chemical Engineering in NIT Trichy or B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in NIT Warangal?

You have two options:

• Choose NIT Trichy. Work hard to get your branch changed to CSE (comfort and success rate 5%).
• Opt for IIIT Sri City. No headache of changing branches. Focus on CSE/IT from the first year itself (comfort and success rate 100%).

NIT Trichy for Chemical Engineering has impressive placement rates, reaching 100% for my branch, with big names like Google and Microsoft offering packages up to 55 lakhs, which is hard to beat. In contrast, NIT Warangal's B.Tech in Computer Science has a strong internship program, attracting major companies as well, but the placement data isn't as robust as Trichy's. Both colleges provide good opportunities, but NIT Trichy seems to edge ahead in terms of placement success and package potential. If you're leaning towards a traditional engineering field with solid job prospects, go for NIT Trichy; if you're more into tech and coding, NIT Warangal could still be a great choice, especially for internships.

It’s a clear choice. This is 2017, and it may take years for IIIT-S to catch up to the top NIT in India.

People often say to prioritize branch over career, but let’s be real. Many top coders on leading programming platforms come from less-preferred branches like Ceramic Engineering and Mining.

NIT-T has all the facilities a premier college should offer. It’s not just about enjoying college life; a university should have:

• Well-functioning clubs
• A strong alumni network
• Auditoriums
• Sports facilities

Coding can be learned online. One advantage of choosing branches like Chemical Engineering is that the workload is relatively light, allowing you to code in your free time.

If you have a genuine interest in the subject, go for it! If you’re aiming for a software or hardware (electronics) job, be prepared to put in extra effort. Engage in college clubs and work on impressive projects.

Remember, placements aren’t the only factor to consider when choosing a college. Here are some other important aspects to look for:

• General safety
• Availability of good food
• Climatic conditions of the area
• Any religion/language-based discrimination
• Cleanliness
• Sports and extracurricular activities
• Library facilities, including available books and timings
• Distance from the nearest towns/cities (most colleges are on the outskirts)
• Cultural fests
• Alumni network
• Access to internet, postal services, banking, hospitals, and nearby cafeterias

I advise against solely chasing white-collar jobs (like IT); it can be quite risky. With the rise of AI, the job market is set for significant disruption. Software development is currently one of the highest-paying fields in India. Right now, much of the coding in software development can be easily handled by AI. Becoming one of those so-called 10X developers who earn 45 LPA and above is becoming increasingly achievable.

NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a solid return on investment with around 90% placement rates and high packages up to 55 lakhs, making it a financially smart choice if you're inclined towards core engineering. However, NIT Warangal’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering also shows promising internship opportunities and high placements, especially considering the tech boom. The fees for both colleges are similar, but NIT Trichy has a better scholarship system, easing the financial burden. If you're passionate about tech and want to dive into CSE, go for NIT Warangal; if you prefer chemical engineering with great placement prospects, NIT Trichy is the way to go.
