I have said this many times and will say it again, one should never underestimate the value a CGPA holds in shaping your career. Don’t fall for the trap ‘Grades don’t Matter’ because they do and to a great extent. This can be further understood through the following anecdote that revolves around two of my closest friends.
Both of them were CSE students at NIT Rourkela. Both were regular in their classes and completed their assignments on time. However, by the end of the 3rd year, one friend scored a CGPA of 6.90 while the other ended up getting a 7.05 CGPA .
During the placements, most top companies like Microsoft, Uber, De-shaw, Arcesium, Visa, and Samsung set their cutoffs to 7 CGPA. Students who did not qualify for this weren’t eligible to sit for their placements. The friend with the higher CGPA appeared in the interview for several companies and ended up with a good role and package while the other friend with slightly less but below 7 CGP could not even sit for their placements. Eventually, he got placed in an average company with a low package.
The core lesson from this anecdote is that CGPA matters a lot during placements, especially for the best companies. Hope my answer clarified the importance of a CGPA for a BTech in CSE student at NIT Warangal.
One of my friends had to choose between EEE in a good IIT and CSE in one of the top NITs. He was specifically inclined towards CSE and knew he would end up with a Software job even if he took EEE. Moreover, he knew that if he chose EEE, he would have to work extra hard to maintain a good CGPA, learn coding, and complete additional courses to upgrade his skills.
All his relatives and friends were against him joining NIT and giving up the opportunity to join IIT. However, he did not change his mind and chose NIT Warangal CSE. To date, he has zero regrets about his decision. He realized that he learned a lot in CSE that he could have Moises had he taken EEE. Many of his friends in EEE had to work extra hard just to be on par with CSE students. He was grateful for his smart decision.
Placements-wise, there isn’t any major difference in the statistics of NIT Warangal and IITs. Being one of the top 3 NITs, it’s highly respected by recruiters and thus has a good placement scenario.
He was very satisfied with his decision of choosing NIT Warangal CSE over EEE at a good IIT. After all, branches matter more than institutes!
NIT Warangal has a quiet vibrant and dynamic campus life with a lot happening throughout the year. Some days students prefer to have dinner outside while sometimes they relax and have dinner on the campus Food Street itself. Often the scorching heat and intolerable climate conditions demotivate the students while sometimes the cool breeze is a big source of motivation. Students go through a rollercoaster f emotions and experiences that make their campus life happening and memorable.
The beauty of the campus leaves the students in awe who love taking good photos of the serene campus. Other times students are busy preparing for their exams. A number of cultural, and social events take place around the year.
In a nutshell, the campus life at NIT Warangal is a perfect blend of both fun and academics!
NIT Warangal offers MTech in a number of core branches like CSE, ECE, M.E., and Civil which are further subcategorised A plethora of job opportunities are available for the CSE and ECE MTech students. However, very limited opportunities are available for core domains like Mechanical, Civil, etc.
The two main reasons are the lack of core companies in India in general and fewer open positions for which BTech graduates are given preference. Most MTech graduates, therefore, prefer working in service-based companies like Infosys, TCS. While some even join PSUs and IES.
In 2023, NIT Warangal MTech recorded the highest package of INR 51.03 LPA and an average package of INR 30.43 LPA. The median and lowest packages stood at INR 33 LPA and INR 3.6 LPA respectively.

Based on the expert's analysis of JEE Main Rank vs Marks, the marks required for a general category of other state students in the first round are in the range of 120-200.
The answer varies with the branch you are offered at both these institutions. I will give you an idea for some common branches to make the decision easier for you-
These are some of the common branches that you can choose at either of the institutions. Both NIT Warangal and BITS Pilani are great institutions and at the end, your hardwork and dedication will decide your future.
Since you are looking for the same branch, I think you should give preference to the institutes. That being said, it’s not a brainer that NIT Warangal is much better than NIT Surathkal in terms of academics, job opportunities, and campus life. In fact both the colleges give tough competition to each other since they are among the top 3 NITs.
The only reason I am giving more preference to NIT Warangal is because it has a branch change policy which NIT Surathkal does not. So if after studying Chemical Engineering you realize that it’s not your cup of tea, you can opt for a branch change. However, it’s important to note that this process is neither easy nor tough.
One of my friends studied at NIT Warangal and told me that every year many chemical and biotech students slide to branches like ECE, CSE, Mechanical, etc.
So both are great options with NIT Warangal having a slight upper hand over NIT Surathkal.
NIT Warangal has a separate hostel for students of every year that are well-maintained and well-furnished with modern facilities.
1.8k Ultramega Hostel
This is the largest hostel in India.
Old Blocks
These are the oldest hostels of NIT Rourkela.
Mega Hostel(1k)
This hostel is also very huge.
International Students Hostel(DASA Hostel)
Every hostel has a mess or a good neighborhood.
One of my female friends was allotted Sarojini hostel and she shared her experience that was nothing short of a nightmare. The rooms were very small and congested. She had to share the tiny room with 3 other girls. The lighting was poor making it difficult to study.
The hostel was located remotely away from all other hostels. Girls are expected to mention their name in the register whenever entering or leaving the hostel. The hygienic conditions of bathrooms are pathetic with rusted doors and insects of all kinds.
The hostel for the second year students, 'The new Ladies hostel' is, however, better. The rooms are small but neat with clean, white marble tiles. There is a gym as well as a garden. This hostel has long corridors that let in fresh air with huge balconies.
So the first year for girls at NIT Warangal is a nightmare while the second year is better.
