Should I go for B.Tech Software Engineering in DTU or B.Tech Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in IIIT Delhi?

I want to clarify some misconceptions about IIIT-Delhi that seem to persist in various answers:

1. It's completely incorrect to say that there are no good peer groups, social life, extracurriculars, or campus life at IIIT-Delhi. In fact, students have a LOT of freedom to create and engage in extracurricular activities. For example, over the past two years, students were allowed to build a music room in the institute with equipment worth over 1.5 lakh (possibly more now)! We have a fully equipped jam room with 3 amplifiers (75w-100w), electric and bass guitars, a drum set, and many more instruments. And this was all funded by the institute! I really don’t understand where the idea comes from that there’s no extracurricular or social life here. This is just one aspect—an entire stage with high-quality equipment was set up at a technical festival just so that a few second-year students could perform for an audience.

2. It’s also misleading to claim that placements at IIIT-Delhi are poor and not competitive. The reality is that while non-technical placements may lag behind those of other institutes, the technical placements are quite strong.

Considering the fees and return on investment, B.Tech in Software Engineering at DTU offers a solid value for money with a fee structure that remains relatively stable compared to the increasing fees at IIIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. While DTU has good internship opportunities starting from the first year and a vibrant campus life with numerous fests, IIIT Delhi provides a more specialized curriculum with a focus on emerging technologies, which could lead to better job prospects in AI. However, the scholarship options at DTU are more accessible for needy students, making it a smarter financial choice if you’re looking for a balance between cost and opportunities. Ultimately, if you’re passionate about AI and can manage the higher fees, IIIT Delhi might be worth it; otherwise, DTU is a great option for a robust software engineering foundation at a lower overall cost.

Both DTU and IIIT Delhi offer solid opportunities for placements and internships, but they cater to slightly different student needs. DTU’s B.Tech in Software Engineering provides a well-rounded curriculum with good placement prospects, especially for those with strong coding skills, and internships start as early as the first year, which is a huge plus. IIIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, on the other hand, is more specialized and aligns closely with current tech demands, offering internships right from the first year as well, and companies like Google often recruit directly from there. If you’re looking for a broader software engineering background, DTU might be the way to go, but if you're specifically interested in AI and want to be at the forefront of tech, IIIT Delhi could offer you better career prospects.

Having connections at DTU, NSIT, and other esteemed colleges, along with being an alumnus of IIITD, I can provide some insights.

• Quality of Education: The education at IIITD is significantly better. Students aren’t just cramming; they’re genuinely learning.
• Faculty: The faculty comes from prestigious universities worldwide, providing high academic exposure for IIITD students.
• Placements: Almost every major software company recruits from IIITD, and placement statistics have been on the rise every year.
• Curriculum: While the curriculum is rigorous, students actively participate in inter and intra-university sports events.
• Cultural and Tech Events: There’s excellent participation from other colleges in our cultural and tech events.
• Student Freedom: There are no restrictions on students, and we have a zero percent attendance system!
• Startup Support: Faculty, through funding and industry contacts, assist many students in building their own startups.

I believe I’ve provided enough reasons for you to consider IIITD!

Personally, I’d lean towards B.Tech Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIIT Delhi. The curriculum there is cutting-edge and highly relevant, especially with AI being the future. While DTU’s Software Engineering program has a solid structure and good placement opportunities, IIIT Delhi offers internships from the first year with major tech companies, which is a huge advantage. Campus life is vibrant at both, but IIIT Delhi seems to have a more tech-focused culture that aligns better with my interests. If you're really into AI and want a head start, IIIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if you're looking for a broader software engineering experience, DTU is still a great choice.
