IGNOU has released its updated Yearly Academic Calendar, offering students a clear roadmap for admissions, re-registration, assignment submission, exam form deadlines, and term-end examinations. The calendar is designed to simplify the academic journey for more than 4 million learners enrolled under the university’s ODL and Online programs.

Admission Cycles

IGNOU has two main admission cycles every year: January cycle and July cycle. In each cycle, students can apply for many UG, PG, diploma, and certificate courses in distance and online mode.

  • January admission: Forms usually open in December or early January and stay open for several weeks.
  • July admission: Forms usually open in June or July with a similar window.ignou.

Re-Registration Window Stays Open Longer

For existing students, IGNOU’s Re-Registration portal opens well in advance, often 2 to 3 months before the session begins. Learners can re-register for the next semester/year online, with deadlines frequently extended to accommodate delayed applicants.

Exam Months

IGNOU conducts Term-End Exams (TEE) two times in a year: June and December. Students from both January and July batches appear according to their course duration and exam eligibility.

  • June TEE: Forms and date sheet are released in the first half of the year.
  • December TEE: Forms and date sheet are released in the second half of the year.

Exam Form Submission & Hall Ticket Release

IGNOU conducts Term-End Examinations (TEE) in June and December every year. Exam forms are usually made available 2 months before the commencement of exams. Hall tickets are released 7–10 days prior, along with updated instructions and centre details.

Term-End Examinations and Result Timeline

  • June TEE: Held during the first three weeks of June
  • December TEE: Conducted in the first half of December

Results are declared on a rolling basis, starting 30–45 days after the first exam date. Students can track their grades through the official Grade Card portal

Assignment Calendar: Key Component of Evaluation

IGNOU releases session-wise assignment schedules for both cycles. Submission deadlines generally fall in:

  • March/April for January Session
  • September/October for July Session

Students can submit assignments online through the regional centre portals or offline at their respective Learner Support Centres.

Why Does This Calendar Matters for Students?

The structured academic calendar allows learners to:

  • Plan assignments and exams in advance
  • Manage studies along with job or competitive exam preparation
  • Avoid missing deadlines due to the long flexible windows
  • Track progress across semesters smoothly

IGNOU’s streamlined schedule is especially beneficial for working professionals and distance learners.
