The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has commenced the admission process for its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program for the January 2026 session. In a major update for aspirants, the university has announced that the long-standing OPENMAT entrance examination has been cancelled.

Admissions are now being granted based on merit and qualifying academic criteria. Prospective students are advised to complete their applications before the fast-approaching deadline of February 15, 2026.

OPENMAT was the national-level entrance examination conducted by IGNOU for admission into its management programs. It tested candidates on General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and English Language.

The IGNOU MBA is an AICTE-approved degree, ensuring it holds the same value as a regular MBA in the job market. Candidates must pay a non-refundable registration fee of ₹300 through online payment modes (Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking. The total fee for the 2-year program is ₹66,000.

IGNOU MBA Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IGNOU MBA 2026 session, a candidate must meet the following:

• Educational Qualification: Must hold a Bachelor's Degree (minimum 3 years duration) from a recognized university.
• Minimum Marks: At least 50% aggregate marks for General category candidates and 45% for Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD).
• No Age Limit: There is no maximum age bar for applying.
• Work Experience: Professional experience is not mandatory.

IGNOU MBA Admission 2026 Selection Process

Since the OPENMAT is no longer required, the selection is straightforward:

1. Verification of Eligibility: The university verifies the documents and the percentage obtained in graduation.
2. Merit Confirmation: Admission is confirmed for all eligible candidates who meet the 50% (or 45%) criteria until seats/batches are full.
3. Admission Offer: Successful candidates receive confirmation via email and SMS.

2. Click on "New Registration" and create your account using a valid email and phone number.
3. Login with your credentials and fill in your personal and academic details.
4. Upload the required scanned documents in the prescribed format.
5. Pay the application fee of ₹300 online.
6. Submit the form and save a copy/printout of the application and fee receipt for future reference.
