Course Curriculum Overview:

Maharaja Sayajirao University has one of the best Geography courses and not many students know about it. It is one of the few universities that allows both BA and BSc geography students can apply and gain admission in MSc Geography. The geography department comes under the Faculty of Science and it is one of the disciplines and strict faculty of the university, The student ratio is also very high in the faculty. Professors are highly educated and knowledgeable. The teaching method is advanced as they follow the updated syllabus. Each classroom has a smart board/projector. Exams are conducted on time and paper pattern is sometimes quite tough but the way professors teach it is not that difficult to sail through exams and pass.

Campus Life:

University conducts its annual fest. Every faculty also has its own annual fest even departments also organise fest annually. Footprints is its annual tech fest. Fests are conducted in the months of January to March. There are thousands of books available at the university library, some departments have their own library and reading room for students and staff. Classrooms have basic amenities like desks, chairs, projector boards, monitors and speakers, dustbins, and notice boards. There are inter-faculty sports and extracurricular activities that are conducted at the university often. The geography department has its own club named Prakruti Young Geographers Club.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I opted for MA in Geography. I Choose this subject because I love this subject. The Faculty and student ratio is 1:20. All faculties have Doctorate qualifications. Term exams are university dependent, so the college is not responsible.

Campus Life:

Varsity Week is the cultural week conducted by the university. It is conducted every year in the months of February or March. There is a sports week conducted by the university. Departments, groups, or even single entrees are welcomed. And different cultural programs are conducted throughout the year. Students are encouraged to develop their extra-curricular activities and talents.  The university has two general libraries and every department has their own libraries. These libraries are equipped with all the books and journals required for the different courses at the university. They also have old manuscripts and books. If some new journals or any books are not found in the library, then the teachers themselves provide the required materials to the students.  The university also has different social and cultural groups. It also has sports clubs. These clubs and groups show great participation.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The geography department at the university is good. The department is small, with a maximum of 30–40 students in each class. This helps in good interaction with the teachers and avoids congestion. The teachers are good and very cooperative. They help the students in every way, be it academic or extra-curricular activities. The department takes part in university activities actively. The teachers also help and are actively involved. All the teachers in the department have PhDs.  Teachers use theory as well as practical knowledge to teach the subject. Computers, smart phones, and journals are also used by them. They clear every doubt of the students and also, if necessary, they teach topics beyond the syllabus for future help.  The exams are conducted on time. And the question pattern is challenging for the students.

After completing and getting good marks in graduation my next step is to pass MSc with first-class and prepare myself for the NET SET exam so that I can either do a Ph.D. or become a lecturer. We had 4 faculty and almost 42 students in our department. So the student-faculty ratio is 10 students per one professor. But our professors are very good and understanding. They are very interactive in online/offline classes. They have empathy and patience to understand our topic very deeply. They also do regular practical classes. Our professors have done Ph.D. in their field. We had 4 semesters. Every semester we had 5-6 papers and practical exams and internal assessment tests and assignments. Anyone who studies regularly can pass these exams.

Our university has a beautiful greeny campus. It's very much pleasant & refreshing. Our university organize some cultural functions but due to covid most of them did not happen. Our classroom is very clean. We had enough space between two benches. Our classroom was a wide amphitheater that amplifies the professor's voice in order to reach the entire home. Ques. How is geology in IIT Bhubaneswar ?

● Top Answer By Priti Bansal on 13 Aug 20

Ans. Very few IITs in India offer Geology and all of them follow the same curriculum. The faculties at IIT Bhubaneswar is well qualified and experienced. Given below are a few advantages of choosing geology at IIT Bhubaneswar:- One of the parts of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus is close to Chilka lake, which is used for ocean and navel geology based courses, it is probably the only IIT in the country with such practical facilities available. Being one of the most culturally effervescent cities in the country and having a tropical savanna climate, Bhubaneswar is the most suitable for the field of climate and ocean research. There are a large number of elective courses of the geology department that are available in IIT Bhubaneswar with a few notable ones being Glacial Geoscience, Modelling and Stimulation, and many others. There are about 11 elective courses in MSc Geology each having 3 contact hours and 3 credits and divided between semesters(I and II) and (III and IV). The first two semesters have courses like environmental earth sciences and the 3rd and 4th semesters have courses like organic geochemistry.Read more
