BSc Nursing 3rd Year Syllabus

The syllabus of BSc Nursing third year includes Medical surgical nursing-II (Adult including geriatrics), Child Health Nursing, Mental health Nursing, Nursing research & statistics including theory and practical of these subjects. The detailed syllabus is discussed below for your reference, 

BSc Nursing 3rd Year Subjects 

The subjects of BSc Nursing third year comprise subjects such as Medical Surgical Nursing-II, Child Health Nursing which deals with child nursing, pediatrics, gynecology etc, Mental health Nursing dealing with mental health and mental disorders. Apart from this, the syllabus includes practicals of these subjects.

Medical Surgical Nursing- II (Adult including Geriatrics)

The main purpose of this course is to gain knowledge and develop proficiency in caring for patients with medical and surgical disorders in both health care or home settings. 

• Nursing Management of Patients with Disorders of Ear, Nose and throat - This includes review of anatomy and physiology of the Ear, Nose and throat, nursing assessment, etiology, physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment modalities etc. 
• Nursing Management of Patients with disorders of Eye - This includes anatomy and physiology of eye, etiology, physiology, clinical manifestations of various disorders of eye such as refractive errors, eyelids infection, tumors, cornea inflammation, lens cataract, Glaucoma, etc
• Nursing Management of Patients with neurological disorders - This includes anatomy and physiology of neurology, etiology, physiology, clinical manifestations of various disorders such as congenital misinformation, headache, head injuries, spinal cord compression etc. 
• Nursing Management of Patients with female reproductive disorders - This includes congenital abnormalities of female reproductive health, sexuality and reproductive health, menstrual disorders, ovarian and fallopian tube disorders, vaginal disorders, etc.
• Nursing Management of Patients with Burns, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery - This includes review and anatomy of skin and connective tissues and various deformities, types of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, role of nurse, legal aspects, rehabilitation, special therapies etc.
• Nursing Management of Patients with oncological conditions - This includes structure & characteristics of normal and cancer cells, modalities of treatment including Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical interventions etc. 
• Nursing care of the elderly - This includes Nursing assessment, aging, demography, concepts and theories of aging, normal biological, medications and elderly, cardiovascular, respiratory etc.

Nursing Research & Statistics

This course is designed with the purpose to enable students to understand basic concepts of research, research process and statistics and also to participate in research-based studies etc.

• Research and research process - This includes an introduction and need for nursing research, the definition of research & nursing research, steps of the scientific method, characteristics of good research, etc.
• Research problems/ Question - This includes identification problem area, problem statement, criteria of a good research problem, writing objective etc. 
• Review of Literature - This includes location, sources, online search, CINHAl, COCHRANE etc, purposes, method of review etc. 
• Sampling and data collection- Definition of population, sample, sampling criteria, factors influencing sampling, types of sampling techniques, data, data collection methods and instruments etc. 
• Introduction to statistics - This includes definition, use of statistics, scales of measurement, frequency distribution, and graphical presentation of data, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, normal probability and tests of significance etc. 
• Communication and utilization of research - This communication of research findings, verbal reports, writing research reports, writing scientific article papers, etc.

Child Health Nursing

This subject helps in designing and developing an understanding of the modern approach for child care, identification, prevention and nursing management of common health problems of neonates and children 

• Introduction Modern concepts of Childcare- This includes internationally accepted rights of the child, national policy and legislations of child health and welfare, national programs, agencies related to welfare services of children, changing trends in hospital care , child morbidity and mortality rates etc.
• Nursing Care of Neonate - This includes nursing care of normal newborn/essential newborn care, neonatal resuscitation, nursing management of a low birth baby, kangaroo mother care etc.

This course is designed for developing an understanding of the modern approach to mental health, identification, prevention and nursing management of common mental health problems with special emphasis on therapeutic interventions for individuals, family and community etc

• Introduction - This includes perspectives of Mental Health and mental Health Nursing, the prevalence and incidence of mental health problems and disorders, mental health act, national mental health program, etc. 
• Principles and concepts of Mental Health Nursing - This includes the definition of Mental health nursing and terminologies used, classification of mental disorders, review of personality development, psychopathology of mental disorders etc.
