Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing

This subject helps the candidates to design and understand the concepts and principles of midwifery and obstetrical nursing. This helps the candidates to acquire knowledge and skills in nursing care for normal and high-risk pregnant women during antenatal, natal and postnatal periods in hospitals and community settings.

• Introduction to Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing - This includes an introduction to concepts of midwifery and obstetrical nursing, trends in midwifery and obstetrical nursing, historical perspective, legal and ethical aspects in midwifery etc.
• Review of anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system and fetal development - This includes female pelvis, female organs of reproduction, physiology of the menstrual cycle, human sexuality etc.
• Assessment and management of pregnancy: Normal pregnancy - This includes physiological changes during pregnancy, psychological changes, discomforts of pregnancy, diagnosis of pregnancy, ante-natal care etc. 
• Assessment and management of intra-natal period - This includes the physiology of labor, stages of labor, Neonatal resuscitation, active management of labor, pain relief and comfort in labor etc. 
• Assessment and management of women during the postnatal period: Normal puerperium - This includes physiology, duration and management, postnatal assessment, Promoting physical and emotional well being, minor disorders of puerperium, lactation management etc. 
• Assessment and management of normal neonates - This Normal neonate, physiological adaptation, initial and daily assessment, breast feeding, prevention of infections, immunization, etc.
• High-risk pregnancy-Assessment and Management - This includes screening and assessment, ultrasonics, cardiotocography, levels of care, disorders of pregnancy, bleeding in early pregnancy, Ante-partum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension etc. 
• Abnormal Labour- Assessment and Management - This includes disorders in labor, complications of the third stage: injuries to the birth canal, obstetrical emergencies and their management, Nursing management of women undergoing obstetrical operations etc. 
• Assessment and management of High risk newborn - This includes admission of neonates in the neonatal intensive care units protocols, nursing management - low weights babies, infections, respiratory problems etc.

Community Health Nursing-II

Community Health Nursing is a program designed for students to practice community Health Nursing for individuals, families and groups in both urban and rural areas. Some of the topics covered under this subject are:

• Health Planning and Policies and Problems - This includes national health planning in India- Five year plans, various committees such as NRHM, NUHM, MDG, SDG, National Health Policy 1983-2002), National population policy, health problems in India etc. 
• Delivery of Community Health Services - This includes planning, budgeting and material management of SC, PHC and CHC, Programme management including supervision and monitoring, Ayushman Bharath, primary health care centers, system of medicine and health care allopathy, homeopathy etc. 
• Community Health nursing approaches, concepts and roles and responsibilities of nursing personnel - This includes nursing theories and nursing process, epidemiological approach, evidence-based approach, empowering people to care for themselves, concepts of primary health care , Qualities of community health Nurse, etc.
• Assisting individuals and groups to promote and maintain their health - This includes empowerment of self care of individuals, families and groups, seek health services, maintenance of health records for self and family, continuing medical care and follow-up in the community for various diseases and disabilities etc. 
• Health Agencies - This includes International agencies such as WHO, UNFPA, UNDP, World Bank, UNICEF, DANIDA, Red Cross, USAID, UNESCO, ILO, CARE, national agencies including Indian Red Cross, Indian Council for Child Welfare, family planning association of India, Central Social Welfare Bond etc.

Management of Nursing Services and Education

Management of Nursing Services and Education course is designed to acquire an understanding of the management of clinical and community health nursing services, nursing educational programs etc. Some of the subjects included are -

• Introduction to Management in Nursing - This includes definition, concepts, functions of management, principle of management, the role of nurse as a manager etc.
