IISc Bangalore is located at CV Raman Rd, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560012, between Malleswaram and Yeswantpura. The institute's other name that the locals use to refer to the college is "Tata Institute”. Using the name “Tata Institute” with the taxi, auto-rickshaw drivers, and bus conductors can be more convenient rather than IISc. Given below is the way how students can reach the institute via different routes and modes of transport:
The college is about 35 kilometers or 22 miles from both the domestic and international airports. The students can opt for a prepaid taxi service, which is directly available from the airport. The taxi fare to reach the institute would amount to approximately INR 600. If not, the students can also avail the shuttle bus services, with INR 190 as the bus fare. Cheaper bus facilities which are more economical are also available. The bus can be taken to either Mekhri Circle or Malleshwaram. IISc is around 2 kilometers from these bus stops and you may take an INR 20 fare auto to reach IISc. Alternatively, the student can take bus number 10 from the airport that directly passes by IISc, with “Tata Institute” as the requested stop.
IISc Bangalore is 7 km away from the main railway station, Bangalore City. The railway station and the main bus stand are called Majestic and are opposite each other. The students can opt for either a Pre-paid taxi or auto-rickshaw facility which is available near platform number 1. The person in charge of the counters can be said that the destiny is “Tata Institute”. A trip to IISc may cost about INR 60 by auto. Travel by auto-rickshaws between 22:00 hours and 06:00 hours will cost 50% more. Alternatively, bus services from platform Number 22 of Majestic bus station:
Bus Route nos. 252 E, 258 C, 271 E, 273 C, 275, 99 A and B, alight at TATA INSTITUTE Bus Stop.
If the student wants to reach the institute and is traveling from Cantonment Railway Station, also known as Bangalore Cantt, the student can avail of the prepaid auto-rickshaw facility. Since, the institute is 7kms away from Bangalore Cantt, the bus services can also be used from the bus stop just opposite the station with Route Nos. 94 A and E, 252 A, 270 A, 272, 276 A.
Another important railway station, the Yeshwanthpur Railway Station is very close to IISc. Students can use two entrances to this station: through Yeswanthpur Market and the other via Tumkur Road. If availing an auto-rickshaw ride from Yeshwanthpur to IISc, the fare should be around INR 20 from the Market entrance, and around INR 30 from the Tumkur Road entrance. Additionally, a prepaid auto-rickshaw facility is available near the Tumkur Road entrance.
In case of traveling from the city to IISc, the student needs to move past Malleswaram 18th cross bus stand towards Yeshwantpura to return to IISc. They can also go to a bus stop on the highway between the yellow over bridge and Prof. CNR Rao Circle, and another one at Prof.CNR Rao Circle (on Sir CV Raman Road ). After crossing, they will reach a bus stop at Yeshwantpura tollgate, just off campus near R block. Most buses go to one of these places.

For M tech in civil engineering you just need to have bachelors degree in relevant field and a valid gate score. Gate cutoff keeps on varying so can't tell exact number but for general category student gate score should be above 750. Application fee for Mtech is Rs 800 for General/OBC/EWS. For civil engineering department they don't take any interview, they select solely on gate score

Admission to the B. Sc. program at IISc Bangalore takes place via 4 modes: JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, IAT and NEET. Till 2021 there was a KVPY mode of entry but it was replaced by IAT (IISER Aptitude test) since last year. Cutoffs for different categories via different exams canbe checked at official website of the UG department of IISC: bs-ug.iisc.ac.in. The only eligibility criterias are to successfully pass class 12 examinations from a recognised board and to clear the cutoff of any of the 4 exams mentioned above in your category. Applications for the program are to filled at the official webiste in april-may every year. If you clear the cutoff then the institute will reach you on your official email-ID with a provisional offer letter and you will be invited for an in-person counselling session to the Bangalore campus in June. There are 3 rounds of counselling, and at the in person counselling you are given all the information about the program, fees and future prospects.

Qualification of GATE examination with a good rank for shortlisting. There is a quiz and interview for final selection. It is said but 70-30 percent ratio of gate exam score and interview performance but it really depends on the interview alone. The application form can be found on the website after the COAP registration starts. The college is very good.

I was admitted through KVPY-SA exam. Anyone studying in 11th and 12th can apply for the exam. Only SC and ST reservation benefits are availed. But the application fee was pretty high.It was rs.1500. It was a very good exam but it was called off because of high expenses.

The admission process is done through JOSAA counseling based on your JEE Advance rank. I gave JEE in 2022, and the cut-off for the course was rank 237. If you qualify in advance, then you are qualified for the course if you have that or better rank. The application form can be found online.
I had completed my engineering from gsits indore with information technology as my major. I had taken gate exam through which i was granted admission in the esteemed university. I have been a part of two good college & universities and i can say the research in IISC is at par with any university or college in the world.

I passed the CSIR-NET, GATE, and IISC entreance exams to enrol at this collage. Once you have passed one of the aforementioned examinations and are on the interview list, Admission: passed the entrance exam for IISc and was invited for an interview. There and few more. And so on. Also, during the last round of the interview, they mostly inquire about your master's thesis and the type of doctoral wark you plan to pursue.

My brother got selected for IISc Bangalore and here is what his offer letter looked like
Studying at IISc Bangalore is difficult. Some challenges that you will face as a student are - plenty of assignments that are difficult at times, bi-weekly quizzes, surprise tests, sometimes you might not understand a concept taught in class, and some professors schedule 8 a.m. classes. You will have many sleepless nights.
However, if you dedicate yourself to your studies, focusing for long hours without the thought of comfort and fun, you will easily understand all the concepts and ace all your exams.
You will be automatically motivated to work hard seeing your peers. This is because the crowd at IISc Bangalore consists of dedicated and hardworking students.
It is ultimately your hard work and dedication that will help you perform well at IISc Bangalore.
As a class 12th student, I wanted to become either an engineer or a doctor, simply out of societal pressure.
As I started understanding myself I realized that I did not want to become a doctor. Therefore, I started preparing for the IITs. I liked studying, so I was sure that I did not want a job after I was done with my UG degree. I wished to go into research.
I was naive at the time and thought IITians do not go for research work. I finally went for IISc to join BSc Research.
I do not regret joining BSc Research at IISc Bangalore. Had I done my B.Tech from an IIT, I would have switched to Neuroscience or Biophysics anyway. At IISc Bangalore, I realized my true calling.
Its curriculum made my switch to this interdisciplinary field a lot easier. The course fee for BSc Research at IISc Bangalore is affordable as well.
Therefore, I have no regret in choosing BSc Research at IISc Bangalore over B.Tech at IITs.
IISc Bangalore does not grant admission solely to highly intelligent people. Rather, IISc Bangalore makes people highly intelligent. I say this out of my personal experience.
When I entered IISc Bangalore, I knew I was not highly intelligent. I was, however, deeply inclined toward learning and research.
My interview for IISc Bangalore ran for around two hours. The interview began with-
“Plot y=k exp(cx) for different values of k and c (positive, negative, and combination)”, and it ended in my M.Tech thesis. I tried to derive all the values and answer all the questions. Whenever I got stuck, the faculty members helped me conclude.
At IISc Bangalore, you will become more and more inclined towards learning. You will understand yourself and your goals. Then, how people label you won’t be of any importance to you.
IISc Bangalore is a top research institute in India. It is ranked 1 in the NIRF India Rankings 2023: Research, surpassing other tier 1 institutions such as the IITs in the area of research.
For IISc Bangalore students, numerous future opportunities are available. Some of these are-
These are some future options for IISc Bangalore students. These options are open to students of all domains.
IISc takes in the majority of students through KVPY so getting in through JEE or NEET is very challe being here. It’s very difficult to be among the top rankers here as you have to be among the top 0.05% (Reserved categories).
Despite all this, one of my cousins even in his under-deprived situation managed to make it into IISc. He was from a rural background a normal state board school and did not take any special tuition for JEE/NEET till class 12. He did not even have basic internet facilities and worked hard to procure study materials. All his struggles craved only one goal, IISc. And hard work does pay off!
Finally, he made it into IISc UG through NEET after spending a drop year. What he realized towards the end was that IISc was worth every second and effort spent!
In my opinion, IISc Bangalore is a way better option than IIT Bombay mainly because it offers core engineering in computer science e.g. Linux Kernel Programming. It is true computer engineering. It helps you understand the science of Computer Engineering and develop a strong grasp of it.
Any science be it Computer Science or any other is solely based on concepts and implementation of these concepts is quite difficult. An extensive knowledge of Computer Science doesn’t necessarily ensure great Computer engineering skills. But it’s true vice versa. So by going for IISC, one is surely choosing the path of excellence through the very foundation of Computer Science.
IIT Bombay is a brand that is known nationwide whereas IISc is known globally mainly because of its focus on core and complex concepts in Computer Science. Moreover the quality and quality of papers submitted by IISc is much more than IIT Bombay and this already reflects how successful it is going to become in the future.
Here are some helpful tips if you are starting your first year at IISc Bangalore:
Ph.D. students have to be well-prepared to face uncertainty every single day. On numerous accounts, you are left on your own with no guidance at all. Also, no amount of guidance will ever be sufficient.
Even the Bangalore weather is very uncertain. One day it might rain heavily, and the following day might be a sunny one.
Hindi and English work fine but try to learn the local language. Many South Indians prefer dialogue in English or their local languages, so Hindi might not work in every scenario.
IISc Bangalore will challenge and groom you in numerous ways. Make the most out of your stay there.
You must feel proud of your daughter for getting into IISc Bangalore. I can assure you that she will have a bright future. These are a few things I need you to know as the parent of an IISc student-
These are a few tips and important points that I wanted to share with you.
I did my M.Tech in Materials Engineering from IISc Bangalore (2014-2016 batch). My first official day at IISc Bangalore was eventful and tiresome.
I reached the faculty building early in the morning. All the necessary procedures for the day had to begin from there. I was happy because I thought that my good score would allow me to choose my hostel and mess. I had made up my mind to go for D Mess and NBH.
When I reached the faculty office, I saw a long queue of students ahead of me. I got 125 in waiting. When my turn came, my documents were verified and after that, the mess and the hostel were to be allocated.
For this I had to visit the hostel office. I was so disappointed to find out that the hostels and mess were being allotted on the basis of the lottery system. I had the least faith in my luck. I ended up getting a hostel which was in the ‘last corner’ of IISc Bangalore (in P block). However, luckily, I got D Mess.
Other than this incident, during my first official day at IISc Bangalore, I ended up meeting many new people and making friendships that would last a lifetime.
