IISc Bangalore Placements 2023: Highest Package: INR 86 LPA & Median Package: INR 28 LPA

IISc Bangalore has an excellent placement scenario thanks to its active placement cell that conducts placement drives every year. My knowledge is limited to IISc placement 2021-2022 only. The average salary package stood at INR 23 LPA and the highest salary of IISc was recorded at INR 60 LPA. 

Out of the total of 528, 276 graduating students were placed, and 6 UG students and 270 PG students were also placed. The median salary for UG students was recorded at INR 13.50 LPA, INR 20 LPA for the 2 years PG students, and INR 21.69 LPA for the 3 years PG students.

IISc Bangalore is famous for its research-oriented environment. Earlier it focused only on academic research. But in recent years, it has also started giving attention to industry placements. 

Most of the reputed companies that visit IITs and BITs, also come to IISc for placements. All the IISc students end up with good packages, irrespective of their course/branch. The median CTC for IISc students was 28 LPA during 2023 placements. The placement process of IISc starts before the IITs, which is a great advantage for its students. 

The MTech placements are good enough at IISc. But its grading system is very tough. You’ll have to work hard to maintain a good GPA over there. With a top GPA, you can expect at least 10 LPA as your placement package at IISc. This is applicable for all branches- CSA, SERC, DESE, ECE and EE.

I have a few friends who pursued an M.Tech (Research) at IISc Bangalore. They told me that placement opportunities are good and at par with the M.Tech program.

At IISc Bangalore, for any Engineering branch where the placements are good, you will get equal opportunities in M.Tech and M.Tech (Research). 

Make sure to go for an M.Tech (Research) only if have a passionate interest in your branch because you will be working on your research project. Though you will be spending an extra 0.5 to 1 year on your research project, the coursework load will be comparatively less on you. 

You will also get enough time to spend on a particular course, so you can go for your Ph.D. in that area with a more informed mind.

Some Business, Finance, and IT firms may not allow M.Tech (Research) students to sit for the placement process. However, core companies make no such differentiation. 

Therefore, the placement of M.Tech (Research) at IISc Bangalore is pretty decent and at par with M.Tech.

A B.Sc (Research) degree from IISc Bangalore is a highly respected and reputable degree that can open many doors for you in the academic, research, and industry sectors. After completing BSc research at IISc in Bangalore, students can

• Go for a direct Ph.D. in the USA, India, and some top universities in Europe without doing Masters
• Go for Int.Ph.D./Master in any university of their choice
• Pursue the 1yr Masters's program in IISc. 
• Become a research assistant or project assistant in institutes
• Appear for CAT and target IIMs
• Give UPSC and join the civil service
• Establish your own startup
• Become an employee in a company

Only a handful of students prefer joining a company and most students pursue research or go for higher studies. In summary, a BSc (Research) degree from IS Bangalore can open many doors in the academic, research, and industry sectors, and can provide a strong foundation for a successful career.

Well honestly, once you are in the grasp of the IISc magic, you will forget about placements, and your hunger for higher studies and research will grow instead. The intense workload and the dynamic research environment will bring you close to some of the geniuses who may be pursuing a Ph.D., UG, or master's. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all.

As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies. The best part is that students of this branch can sit for placements in companies of Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, and Material Engineering as well. 

In all placements at IISc won't be an issue for either branch yet I will say again, judging a research-oriented institute like IISc on the basis of placements is not justified. 

The placement scenario at IISc Bangalore for an MTech in CSE is great with a plethora of opportunities. IISc Bangalore has an active placement cell that conducts smooth placement drives every year. 

• During IISc placements 2022, the average salary stood at INR 23 LPA while the highest salary stood at INR 60 LPA. 
• In 2021, out of 386 MTech students, 234 were placed successfully while 30 opted out of placements. 
• The median salary stood at INR 20 LPA. Some of the past recruiters included Adobe, India Bulls, Siemens, L&T, Tech Mahindra, ICICI bank, Cognizant, Birla Soft, Cipla, etc.

If you want to secure good placements here, you should be ready to commit yourself to hard work and be bold enough to apply for off-campus jobs.

M.Tech (Research) students have the same placement opportunities as M.Tech students in CSA at IISc Bangalore.

M.Tech (Research) in CSA at IISc Bangalore has a few advantages over others:

1. M.Tech (Research) has a smaller course load as compared to M.Tech. The students have to study 3 to 6 courses, which is less as compared to the 10 courses studied by M.Tech students.
2. The M.Tech (Research) students have their placements during the 3rd year, so they are generally well-prepared before the placement season begins.
3. M.Tech Research students begin their research work in their 2nd semester. This makes them skilled and learned in their area of research and they easily get a research-specific job, given they secure a good CGPA. Also, they can split time between placement preparation and research if required.

At IISc Bangalore, Systems students are hired by companies such as Oracle, Nutanix, and Microsoft for packages in the range of 22 LPA to 28 LPA. 

Intelligent Systems students receive offers from companies like Flipkart, Amazon, and Microsoft for packages ranging from 22 LPA to 39 LPA.

Theory students may face difficulty in securing a systems job if they are out of touch with coding. This is because they may lack implementation skills and knowledge about systems as they are engaged in Maths. However, because M.Tech Research students get sufficient time to work on their weaknesses, Theory students overcome these problems and usually perform well in the placements. Industry-oriented jobs are fewer for Theory students in comparison to Systems and Intelligent Systems students.

IISc Bangalore students of M.Tech (Research) in CSA secure good jobs with packages >=22 LPA. Thus, M.Tech (Research) in CSA is a good course with very good placement opportunities.
