Established in 1983 in Lucknow, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, also known as SGPGIMS, is one of the most sought-after colleges for postgraduate and super-specialty medical courses in India. Popularly known as SGPGIMS Lucknow, the institute was established as a Centre of Excellence in Uttar Pradesh and is currently ranked 68^th by Collegedunia in 2025 among the top medical institutes. The institute has also been ranked 6^th in the medical category by NIRF in 2024. SGPGIMS is accredited by NAAC with an A++ grade.

SGPGIMS offers BPT as its flagship program. Admission to the BPT program is based on merit in the entrance exam conducted by the institute. The first-year BPT fee at SGPGIMS is INR 43,250. Seeking admission to various courses at SGPGIMS is undoubtedly tough given the competition and high cutoffs for entrance exams like NEET PG and NEET SS.

What is the Procedure to Apply for Admission to PDCC at SGPGIMS?

SGPGIMS conducts its own entrance exam for admission to PDCC in different disciplines. The institute will release the notification for admission on its official website. The candidates need to fill out the application form accordingly. Once registered, appear for the PDCC entrance exam which is of a total of 100 Marks (Part –A, 60 Questions, 60 Marks & Part–B, 20 Questions, 40 Marks). SGPGIMS will announce the list of selected candidates, and if selected, follow the instructions provided for the admission process by the institute.

SGPGIMS Final Exit Exams

SGPGIMS Lucknow conducts exit examinations once a year, during the last six months of the completion of the academic programs. In case, the students do not get the minimum required marks in the same, they will have to appear for NExT organized by NMC.

SGPGIMS Training & Stipend

SGPGI appoints Senior Residents (Hospital Service) initially for one year, after which the appointment can be renewed every year, up to a period of a maximum of 3 years.

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

Radiotherapy technology mainly focus to treat cancer related patients to cure and ease the disease mainly aiming to improove quality and quantity of life. technology is continuosly being improved for better treatment delivery to patients. Exams are conducted with 2 internal tests and 2 final semesters with practicals.

What are the internship opportunities in the campus?

Internship is provided by SGPGI for all paramedical courses. It is a one year program ( except BPT, where internship is for 6 months due to course timing of 4 year) where students learn and gain experience about their courses in depth and get to do some real work. Stipend is not provided now but hopefully will be provided soon.

Fees structure of the course and scholarship

Fees is paid in 2 install per year for 3 consecutive years.. except in internship period. 1st installment takes 30750/- that includes course fee(27500), library fees (250), and hostel fee (3000). 2nd installment takes 33550/- that include course fee (27500), library fees (250), hostel fees (3000), exam fee (2500), and degree fee (500). caution money and admission chargers are extra taken at the time of admission in first year. If hostel facility is not taken then 3000 is not taken. Scholarship are provided to eligible students.

Students views about the campus life

Campus life is much better than you can expect. Though no concerts are held but different activities are held to keep everyone active. Sports day is held once in a year and different camps and walks are organised by SGPGI on various topics to create awareness among people.

What are facilities available in the college hostel?

Various hostels are provided based on which type of course you take. Girls and boys have separate hostels. Rooms are decent and electricity is provided 24x7. Hostel room are mostly provided with a single bed and a table chair. mess is not provided in hostel but various mess are available and students are free to choose the mess based on their liking and taste. Hostel is provided to those who live outside Lucknow and cost 3000/- per year without mess charges.

Faculty and learning experience in the campus

College is separated from main hospital building of SGPGI. College faculty tries their best to provide facilities and help student in everyway. Deprtment faculties are separate from college faculty but work in co-ordination to provide the best. exams are basically conducted in semesters with 2 internal tests in between. Difficulty level depends upon syllabus and situations present.

Basically this course is run by SGPGI, lucknow. SGPGI is famous for being among top 10 treatment hospitals in ranking. Like anyone would choose AIIMS and JIPMER, anyone would choose SGPGI over any paramedical college. Entrance is done for admission in this course through atal vihari bajpai portal and cutoff is 50%.

campus and library is open 24hrs and hostel timing varies deoending upon the type of hostel taken. there are many places to see inside campus. there are mini zoo, lake and beautiful green parks at many places to visit and its all free for people.

Admission:

I applied to agriculture bsc and paramedical.i got confirmed in sgpgims paramedical. I chose this college because it is very reputed. I didn't apply anywhere else. I gave direct entrance exam of sgpgims. Eligibility was 12th passed with PCB .Cut off of the exam was 50percentage . overall experience is very bad. College is running in a very bad condition. There is no placement for college students. Also there is no permanent teaching faculty available in the college. Behaviour of the college staff is very bad. They don't give any examination result in time.inspite of being a government college the fee is very high.

Admission:

I applied in era medical university and paid the fee as well but then i got selected in sgpgi, i chose this college because it holds a good ranking in all over india. I had applied to only 2 colleges (era university and SGPGIMS) and got selected in both of them You will have to appear in the enterance exam held by up government and you will get the admission on the basis of your merit. Eligibility is 12th passes from science PCB , cutoff is 50% in entrance exam.

"An honest review of sgpgi college: What to expect"

Likes

The campus is good and full of greenery and wide. Its like in sgpgi youve ventured in different cityall together.
The girls to boys ratio in nursing is 3:2 there are more girls than boys. The girls hostel keeps a check on girls safety and gets closed by 9 pm.

Dislikes

Though you can get medical done for free. Its not hassle free and is time consuming even for staff. There could be delays that are inevitable and might make you frustrated.
Since its a big campys if you're a student you've to walk alot and it gets titing too. The building are far away from each other

Admission:

I chose this college since it is ranked 5th and is topmost in Uttar Pradesh. I gave an exam for pgi chandigarh too but unfortunately i could not get the desired percentile for the exam henceforth i got rejected. Comparing pgi chandigarh with pgi UP id suggest go for chandigarh since it provifes stipend to students and hostel facilities are better there. Also its ranked 2nd. Its the best you can get after aiims. But in uttar pradesh try getting sgpgi due its more clinical exposure and better ranking than other colleges of UP. I couldn't get in pgi chandigarh since the level of entrance exam over there is pretty tough the exam is difficult. Pgi chandigarh competes with aiims delhi. Hete

Likes

Clean and green environment makes campus peaceful and calm.

Dislikes

Management is slow as this college is newly started
department related works are scattered in many building making it difficult for people to go buildings to buildings even for small works
Confusing infrastures inside buildings make it hard to remember places for newly visiting people, though you will get every room learned in 2 days

At SGPGIMS Lucknow, admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and other medical or allied health programs requires NEET qualification, as mandated by NMC and regulatory authorities. Without NEET, admission is not possible for these courses.

Admission to almost all the major courses at SGPGIMS Lucknow is entrance-based. Candidates have to first appear for the entrance exam followed by counseling or personal interviews for the allocation of seats for admission. Admission to B.Sc Nursing is based on merit in the UP CNET entrance test. ABVMU B.Sc Nursing Round 1 Seat Allotment 2024 Result has been declared for admission to B.Sc Nursing at SGPGI. The last date to register for Round 2 online counselling is July 18, 2024. Seat Allocation Result for Round 2 online counselling will be released on July 21, 2024. The last date for seat acceptance is July 22, 2024. Selected candidates must report to the college by July 29, 2024.
