Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum consists of subjects like sociology and psychology and healthcare delivery system. Which i feel that these are futile since majorly these are throry subjects and come of no good in practical life. Subjects like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, nuesing foundation are important and practical subjects. In this college lean less on teacher and more on patients for better understanding. Firstly few teachers teaches good plus practical life knowledge is more necessary than theory which is achieved in clinical duty while being exposed to patients in different wards. The curriculum is prepared by INC and is followed exactly by our college so its safe to say it prepares ypu fairly well for practical world. The subjects like sociology and psychology should be removed as i feel they're unnecessary. Zero practical use come from them. Assignments which inclufe copying pasting should be avoided as it gives student unnecessary burden and burn out the student. Honesty examinations here are told 4 days prior which i feel is messed up the checking of sessional 2 and pre university are done strictly. The difficulty level of exams are easy to moderate the exception being supplementary exams which are difficult. Here in sgpgi you have to give CNET exam conducted by abvmu university if you qualify the test you can apply here. The cut off this year went to 6000 rank in open. The exam lebel is easy to moderate so no need to worry much.

Placement Experience

4

The campus doesnt provide placements. Though sgpgi conducts its own test for vacancy of nursing. If you had studied from here chances are there youd get selected here inly and start doing job henceforth earning. I mean which institute doesn't prefer its own child. The students become illegible to give exam at the end of 4th year though there has been instances when people have cleared exam but couldnt join as degree process is late. Therefore its necessary to understand you can only join the job when you've the degree in hand. Mistly students who study here 5%-10% get job here itself. Rest of people get in other government hospitals. But its safe to say they all are earnibg good and are in government job. My plan after the degree is to possible join somewhee as tutor and side by side hustling for MSc for better pay scale and job perspectives. The bright side of this course is either you can go in clinical field or you can join as tutor. The sakary of nurse here in sgpgi is 1 lakh per month.

Fees and Financial Aid

Here we pay semester wise and in an year there are 2 semester therefore for 4 yrs here are 8 semesters and fees of 1 semester is 40,000. Admission fees-5000 Hostel fees-6000 Course fees -40750 Examination fees-1250 Enrollement fees -500 Caution money -10,000 Library fees-500 Degree/diploma certificate-300 All students have same fees category The relaxation is given in scholorship by government. For general-40000 Obc-50000 Sc/st -60000 The medical expenses are bore by government and youve to get treatment in sgpgi itself. You can have treatment upto 1 crore for free.

Campus Life

2

The annul fests like in aiims and k.g.m.u. college are not held here but there would be lots of programmes held here. Mostly there would be pragrammes even on national holidays. One thing i dont like about this campus is that here Sikhs festivals are not celebrated nor they give holidays on those festivals and even on Jayantis of main Sikh Gurus. Which are also days of national holidays by the way. There are programmes like breast cancer, republic day, independence day, siksha diwas, founder's day, nurses day. All these programmes are held in auditorium followed by refreshment but the funny part is youd seldom enjoy refreshment since the crowd would alot here. You can get almost all the books youd require for the course and competitive exams also computers are available to for students use. Just make sure not to search explicit things because if found guilty you might be banned from library. The classroom as ive told earlier are somewhat bearable. The chairs are broken and the projector sometimes dont work at all. But since mostly students come for attendance and seldom study in classroom its no big deal. There is badminton court present in the college itself. After first year you can play cricket too in the ground. The sports facilities are present but most of them are reserved for doctors and higher authorities. In first or second year you'd rarely get a chance. Frankly speaking there are no clubs as such but you can always participate in skits and plaus held and organized by the college. You've to take a form from library and submit it there only for library card. Library fees would be included in course its of 500 rs as mentioned earlier.

Hostel Facilities

3

When you first arrive at campus, dont expect a hostel room right away. Nobody told you this upfront but it could take months. The availability of room is limited and since there is lot of demand you might’ve to wait quite a while before you are assigned room. Its usually a shared room with 2-3 people so dont expect private space. They dont give luxurious facilities its barely survival like. There are no geysers for got water so youve to use heating rod in winter. There are tubelight and bulb for lightening. You'd be provided with basics like almirah(wardrobe), bed, mattess, chair, table but that the extent of furniture provided. There is ceiling fan in room for proper ventilation. Coolers or ac are not allowed. There is no mess facility in the hostel. The mess, which usually used to provide meals had been shut down due to dispute. Now students have to rely on various canteens in the campus. The hostel offers basic accommodation and facilities but its not comfortable or convinient. You can survive it though if youve the will. Otherwise there are rooms available on rent outside campus where you can live on your own terms. The food quality is campus is satisfactory. Seldom its best. You'll need to manage without hot water, limited furniture. Its important to keep all this in mind while taking admission. Personally i live outside campus to live freely. Another thing is you've to get NOP signed by principal, warden, and course coordinator when wanted to ho home and there have been instances when theyve refused to sign it.

Admission

I chose this college since it is ranked 5th and is topmost in Uttar Pradesh. I gave an exam for pgi chandigarh too but unfortunately i could not get the desired percentile for the exam henceforth i got rejected. Comparing pgi chandigarh with pgi UP id suggest go for chandigarh since it provifes stipend to students and hostel facilities are better there. Also its ranked 2nd. Its the best you can get after aiims. But in uttar pradesh try getting sgpgi due its more clinical exposure and better ranking than other colleges of UP. I couldn't get in pgi chandigarh since the level of entrance exam over there is pretty tough the exam is difficult. Pgi chandigarh competes with aiims delhi. Hete

Faculty

2

There is one subject incharge to 62 students in first year first semester. The faculty here is not good at all. Consider the fact that youd be on your own and expect least help fromfaculty members. Here the lectures og guest faculty are below average. Even if you ask questions and try to understand from them you'd fail to understand since the quality of teaching is low here. The faculty here are not student friendly. Yes they'd listen to you but very few would help. Sone of the faculty that i liked are Alice ma'am-though she's strict and often misunderstood but she helps when need comes. Shes strict about her work and teaches good. Kuldeep sir is good at teaching practicals And sane goes for Mata deen sir, he's good in teaching practicals. There are 4 exams in a semesters 1st sessional 2nd sessional Pre university University 1st sessional being easy 2nd sessional being moderate level Pre university being hard with strict checking University is of moderate level. Supplementary exams are often considered hard with strict checking. The course curriculum is same as that which is devised by INC itself.

Night Life

3

On campus, there isn’t really a vibrant nightlife scene for students. Specifically for girls, the situation is more restrictive. The girls' hostel has a strict policy where it closes by 9 PM. After this time, the hostel is locked, and the students are expected to stay inside. If any girl needs to go out after that time, she has to get permission in the form of a night pass. However, obtaining this night pass is not an easy process; it’s often difficult to get approval for it, and this adds to the limitation on their freedom to go out at night. Boys have a different experience. They don’t face the same strict rules as girls when it comes to leaving the campus at night. Boys are free to roam around as much as they want, even late at night, without needing a night pass or special permission. There’s no restriction on their movements like there is for the girls, allowing them to enjoy the campus and surrounding areas without worry about curfews or permissions.

Job opportunities is so high after completion of the course. Curriculum strongly focuses on skill development of the students that will help them to achieve different milestones. There should be less no. of assignment in the curriculum and teaching method should be more interactive. There are 2 mid term exams and 1 semester exam in every 6 months. Exams are not that difficult.

The course is a medical course so yaa i wanted to learn about human so opted for it .It's alike MBBS but a bit easy than that .we have subject specialities like Medical surgical ,Obs gynae,Pediatrics ,Community etc like mbbs only but we need to learn them in duration of 3.5 yrs then we have internship of 6 months. Curriculum is maintained but need to be more realistic as some things are outdated. The subjects we learn are patient centred only as we have to be there for them ,provide care to them and treat them .everthing we read in classes we apply and co relate in our clinical.postings for better learning and experience

Choosing this course was my own decision but after joining it helped me to indulge more in it. It prepares us to face many major and minor critical conditions regarding human beings. Teaching method is usually based on faculty we get. But ours is the best and they examine us in every one month on the basis of some lengthy exams and some shorts exminations.
